Gonna just quickly say that I'm not sure where the value of $0.1 per chapter came from?

If we're going by Qdmm, which is where i purchased chapters from the original author (and Qidian(or the people behind them) takes a cut, most chapters are like 10-20 points. 100 points to 1 CNY. That's like... 0.1 to 0.2 CNY

I have no idea how much they're giving translators, but I highly, HIGHLY, doubt that it's going to jump from 0.2 CNY to 0.68 CNY(approximation of 0.1usd according to google) a chapter.If they do, they're seriously undercutting their own authors. Which is possible but still doubtful in my eyes. (for 100 chapters, that's 2000 points, or 2.94 usd.......)

I have no idea if they're gonna go monthly either, but I personally doubt that as well, simply because they could have, but haven't done so for their own local market.

Edit2: Qdmm also gives out around 5% of a novel for free browsing as well.

Edit: Just for clarity again, I'm not against or for Qidian, I just want actual arguments to conform to *REALITY*.
If there's a basis for the arguments, by all means, I'm happy to bash Qidian alongside you, but if there isn't I want there to be some form of clarity so it's not just "Fuck Qidian, they are the Devil" it might be true, but there's no reason to just outright tell lies about them. You don't become "better" than them by resorting to the same tactics. Make use of them, don't just make up lies to justify your own stance. Alternatively, just completely give up on whatever they're doing.
I've read a fair number of the complaints here and imo, quite a lot of them make sense, some of them however are just taking a chance to bash using nonsensical "logic" and that's not okay.

I forgot where's that supposedly "PSA" made by a forumer about "don't hate CKTALON because love for translators > hate for QI" and all tha bullcrap.

Yet, how I really wished from the beginning that some translators (before they even moved from one site to another) would just own up and be upfront and say something like "I translated for the money, and now QI is paying me 5x more so I have no regrets becoming their dog".

At least its honorable.

 

Agreed, and I don't think anyone would have problems with that if they were just straight with us about it. Instead, I saw cktalon stab RWX in the back on reddit and that just... killed all respect I had for him. Idgaf if people are moving for money. It's their choice, their life, their whatever. But to start more shit and kick someone in the face on the way out? Honestly, so much negativity has been brought to the scene since @Qidian arrived.

 

But in the end, whats point of having a paywall?
Main Qidian got paywall, well that's fine since it got raw books in there, and for TLs with supports from readers were able to buy from there. But if QI were to open up paywall, does that mean another system would needed to be opened up, where in replace for TL some would have to start buying the chapters from QI with the supports of readers.

If that happens, then I don't see any point of having main Qidian site to be lunched online, in fact they should shut down their main Qidian site, so that all the books in their can be translated by the QI, and then people would buy from QI to host it in other sites, with that continuing another kind of circle.

If this is true (what I said above), then one thing they were planning all these years. They lunched main Qidian as a bait, so that TLs would be borned and start translating their books. But because of some issues their plan took years, and finally they started according to their plans.

This question suddenly just pop out of my head unexpectedly and maybe our NuF staff will close this thread because of my question with a reason such as "we dont want to think that yet" . Anyway heres my question..


What if Qidian start applying the "pay-to-read" which is ofc we all knew they will.

Is it still ok for them to post their translated chapters on NU? I mean personally, i wont pay for that but in NUs pov, its kind or form of advertisement right?

In my case, i dont read novels i dont see on NU, or more specifically, i can read a lot of novels because of NU, unlike before, Our "DARK AGE" where we have to visit so many pages just to check if theres an update... so because of that, im really grateful of NU.. others think so too, so Qidian need NU

Maybe im just overthinking but Qidian might change a lot of our "status quo" which will affect our daily readings...

After all, pay to read and free to read (+donation) is two different things.. yeah they both things about money but still different. The difference is like rape and a willing s*x. Both is about s*x but different...

Qidian: pay-to-read
NU: pay-to-post.

It is the policy of NU to not list any updates if they are under a paywall. If anyone can read your stuff then welcome to NU. If not, you better have a separate directory. At most, your novel will get listed in NU. But the releases will not be added.

Nah NU won't post anything that is paywalled, pasword blocked... if talk about selling NU was once clarified by @Tony.. I remembered he said he won't sell NU and will keep this site free forever.

You guys probably dont know it, but qidian used a fake account (the shit talk was to heavy at that time )to get the word out, that they dont intent to pay wall, they try a free version with adds too (i may be wrong, but i had to say that ^^)

 

Qidian has been discussing ways to avoid paywalls though. I think. Something about ads, VIP accounts to get rid of the ads, sponsored chapters similar to Patreon, and other things like that.

 

I dont know the last time i check the nu's faq but anyway, thanks for the answer
