I do not mean to break any rules by posting this. If it does, please delete

I am writing a novel that I'm planning on posting to Royal Road (only once it's finished). They have Patreon and PayPal as options and I was wondering what people prefer. I'm thinking of PayPal because I'll post it 3 times a week once I'm finished and I think Patreon can go on a schedule

Why does being a "new aspiring author" imply that he shouldn't ask for donations? It's not like anyone forces people to donate =|.

As for the original question, i personally prefer Patreon, but it's hard to justify it if it's a novel that's already been completely written(since it's generally asked as a form of support for the author, there's not much to support if the novel is already finished xD).I would probably go for paypal in your case

Wait... Aren't we supposed to pay Patreon with Paypal, or am I misunderstanding?

This just my personal opinion, people more open/easier to donate through patreon than directly with PayPal..
I dunno if what I feel true..
    P. S, use whatever suit you.. Many freelance artist and writer use patreon Nowdays...even Hentai artist

You should support both, it doesn't hurt and will expand your base. But I will note not to expect much. Even translators earn more than the top 10 of RRL combined.

Even if it is completely written, he would still be releasing it 3 times a week. So its not fully released. Its not like he plans on publishing it all at once.

I know for a fact that RRL will let you ask donation on both Paypal and Patreon, but you do have to have a substantial number of chapters already finished. I remember that in my time, you need to have 20k words in your story to qualify for the donation button. There are stories in the RRL forum before that people will lose the donation button if the author suddenly stops updating the stories for a long time after receiving the donation button but I never really seen one actually happen.

That being said, don't just resign from your day job just yet, after getting the donation button. In my experience, the donation you get will give you an option to buy a cup of coffee... every year or so.

Eh, it would just be an option if people wanted to support. It's not like I'd be twisting anyone's arm

And yeah, a cup of hot tea ('cause coffee is nasty) would be great ^^

If it is finished just publish it on Kindle as a Kindle Unlimited book.

Yeah but I don't have any readers/fans so that probably won't be of any help. I do appreciate the recommendation :)

Most self published authors don't, but you will have a chance to fish in a much larger pond and as it will be free on Kindle Unlimited there is a chance ppl will try it and you will get paid by the number of pages ppl read. :D

Also if it is good there may be some of them who will buy it after reading it, but I advise pricing it about £2:D

Very interesting. It's called A Short Magician Cursed to Teach so I'm not sure how many people would be interested in that on Amazon, hence my initial hesitation
