Discussion Have you ever felt like the novels you read influence your "self"?

so, yesterday I was at a party and I was like really drunk and someone told us sth or sth happened (don´t remember) and I thought in that moment "it doesn´t matter, I have 13 palaces and infinite preparations, this won´t even trouble me " (emperors domination)
afterwards, in bed, before going to sleep I suddenly remembered what I thought and became embarrassed by myself and thought about how bad it was for myself to binge read ed for 2 whole days without really going out (only to class for 4 hours, out to eat once and once in the evening)
besides, this wasnt the only time I´ve had some thoughts like this one
now my question to you is: "have you ever noticed how the novels you read affect yourself? if yes, then tell us how!"

Exactly~ that's why it's alcohol and not novels. If you were sober and had similar thoughts as well then I would blame novels~

Well, there was a time i was talking with my family about some random topics.. And we jumped into discussing how some Chinese fellow got a bad ending ... And i said unconsciously... He must have offended some young masters.... And my family started looking at me weirdly...xD

 

Well without them I would pretty much just sit in an corner and think about how worthless our time is on earth... now I think how great it would be to reincarnated into an other world when I die.

 

This is called being chuuni. It'll pass, and you'll always regret it. That is unless you somehow manage to maintain it for your entire life, in which case you are a man of legends.

 

Seeing the popularity of all those edgy slave harem novels, I certainly hope thats not the case

 

I tend to treat reading novels as an experience so as I read more my views on various subjects tend to change, whether it's through seeing an alternate perspective or the gradual desensitization that occurs with some ideas. So basically without novels I wouldn't be who I was.

 

I started taking better care of my female pets, just incase they reincarnate and become holy maidens in the otherworld and summon me because they love me.

 

For me mostly... I guess what I read makes me look at the world in a somewhat more realistic way? As in everyone will die in the end.

 

They influence you, trust me.
It may be minor but there is usually some influence.
Btw don't get drunk, know your limit >.<

 

I assume English required reading is also allowed here? I believe the point of reading classic books in class is so that students learn something from those stories and apply them to their lives.

 

Not when i am fully conscious. I do say some weird lines from the novels i read just after waking up, when i am in a daze.

At first I just wasn't able to conteol my urge to fight. But after I started reading, it has been a lot easier on me.

I say to my self 'Tramsloof, you call breaking a bone or two a fight? See Chu Feng or Yun Che, they don't even spare dogs or chickens in the clan, so if you are not able to do that, don't embarass yourself'

And I am calm after that.

I have become more patient, reading about hundreds and thousands of years so much, merry minutes just doesn't do the trick anymore.

Also I have gotten way better with women, once in a while I throw in a line to them, how author describes beauties for eg 'Thank God you weren't born in the past, or kingdoms would have been destroyed over you'. The funny thing is, all these lines have become way too natural.

Moving along, i have become more open minded.Well a lot compared to where I started from. This let me hide my real views from the world, I am also able to talk to all kinds of people and relate somehow.

Reading has brought great amount of changes within me.

 

yeah that usually happens to me in mornings, when i used to have to go to school. I was like, "Im a Immortal, the hell i have to do to school for...wait wut....." It was so weird.

Tho for me, they influence my writing more than anything else. Like wester and eastern writing is pretty different, you know, one is a lot more descriptive and personal while the other is more like objective and third person...dont know why, but reading so much eastern stuff has me stuck doing third person all the time now.

 

Not only novels but mangas & animes too. It doesn't happen for long. Like I pick up some characteristic from a novel ( I.e. like being sarcastic or sassy)

 

once I stayed up all night reading some lame wuxia and I slep for about an hour and I was awoken up by a loud sound
