Someone asked me how I (sort of) self-learned Japanese, so I told them my method...
I figured that it might be helpful to some others, so here is my method:

Anyways, the first step is to learn kana (basically the Japanese Alphabet)

    Basic summary:
Three systems, hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
Katakana is used for foreign words (like image, site, and all those other good english words)
Hiragana is used for everything else.
Kanji is basically those confusing characters; you need to know them, but it's not a priority to learn a lot quickly.
http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar/hiragana <-teaches hiragana and pronunciation (there should be katakana somewhere)
http://realkana.com/hiragana/ <-good for practice of kana
Each hiragana has a equivalent in the English/Roman Alphabet, and you should know what each is.

    Second step:

OPTION 1: TL for vocab and google for grammar
    OPTION 2: textbook learning
Third step: (do while doing the second step)

Speaking the language is important, but pitch accent is complicated.
Luckily, it doesn't matter since the JLPT doesn't test it.
    Anyways, just watch anime.............

    If I may add
    1.Use SRS like Anki
2.Use memory techniques like the method of loci (Remembering the kanji works well with this)
3.Have the right balance of active learning (memorization which should be limited because it will burn you out) and passive learning like reading and immersion which should be maxed (without neglecting the former)
    4. Dont stop. Do it everyday. Even if you could only spare 5 min.
    5. Be realistic. You're not going to learn this in one day. You need 20k+ words. You are not going to be able to do that in a day.

There is. I highly recommend this as the original books are in English, and there is a YouTube series covering the books that teaches well. You don't need the books for the series so go check it out. Mostly for vocabulary thou.

Translate this;ぼくの ちんぽ わおたべます あなた の お母さん の おっぱい が おいしい
    I'm shit at Japanese.
If you want an easy way to learn them, watch this ''

Also, go after you've learnt a bit, go onto 2chan, and test your Japanese. Talking to actual Japanese will improve it a lot.

The teacher there's a native so you'll get the proper pronunciation.

I think you need to google the particle "ha."

I was confused at first at what you were trying to say, but the I realized that your "wa" meant "ha." (use kanji to avoid confusion!!!)

Anyways, I think you meant this: 俺のアレがお前の母さんの美味しいおっぱいを食べたい, but I don't know what you were trying to say in the first place......

I've tried a few times and honestly tend to stop after a few weeks/months then pick it back up, etc.

Has anyone tried DuoLingo's JP training yet? I've had mild success reinforcing my Spanish using DL in the past, but I know it took them a long time to work on CN/JP/KO due to the different alphabets changing the approach quite a bit.

I'm a little late but, playing lots of VN and MMORPG in Japan servers helps a lot.

VN can be used to increase your vocabulary.
(Voices makes searching words on the dictionary way easier)
Starting off with something like Nukigeー would be easy because of the lesser narration, exposition and stuff. (At least not as complicated)

MMORPG can be used to increase self-confidence and adapting yourself to how people actually talk.
Especially the case when voice chat is involved.
And when you fuck up, the embarrassment won't let you ever forget your mistake so that's a plus.

I personally use an online dictionary call 'Jisho'. It's pretty decent

There's probably still more stuff but this is all I can think of for now.

    Hopefully, it helps?

I use Duolingo to practice, and it’s great. I also use a Japanese dictionary app. Duolingo teaches me everything that I learned in class. A friend of told me her friend Learned his languages all from Duolingo alone. I think that’s amazing. Idk I’m not helpful. But what @madder.translation said about learning from voices. I think that’s the easiest way for me to learn a language. Our Japanese teacher also teaches us everything verbally, rather than the text book. But I think learning Japanese wasn’t hard me because I was already bilingual. I’m still learning Japanese, still a complete noob. Sorry if I’m not help full at all.
