Well... Actually Kansai-ben as the Western Dialect is the dialect of prestige in pre-Shogunate era, since it was the dialect where Kyoto the Imperial Court located. But Modern Standard Japanese is a Eastern Dialect.
In Western, the perfect -u form is -oota/-uta, while Eastern is -atta
for -su verbs its -ita in Western than -shita in Eastern.
The command -ru verbs is ending in -yo or vocal elongation in Western, while Eastern changed it into-ro or -re
To form adverbial verbs, Western went putting -oo or -u, while Eastern put -ku
Negative in Western is -nu or -n, while Eastern is -nai or -nee,
Eastern use "iru", Western use "oru".
Comparing it with English, then its like comparing the Western Ingvaeonic Language (English+Scots) vs the Eastern Ingvaeonic (Frisian)
While English and Scots had plethora of French/Norman loanwords, Frisian remain Germanic.
But since I can't/don't have enough to constitute Frisian language, and Frisian language is not mutually intelligible with English, I choose Scots who had borrowed many English form.
Example of Scots:
Our Faither in heiven,
be hallowt thy name ;
thy Kíngdom come;
thy will be dune
on the yird, as in heiven.
Gíe us our breid for this incomin day;
forgíe us the wrangs we hae wrocht,
as we hae foríen the wrangs we hae dree’d;
an sey-us-na sairlie, but sauf us
frae the Ill Ane:
for the Kíngdom, the pouer an the glorie ar thine
for ivver an aye. Amen.
Example of Frisian:
Us Heit, dy't yn de himelen is
jins namme wurde hillige.
Jins keninkryk komme.
Jins wollen barre,
allyk yn 'e himel
sa ek op ierde.
Jou ús hjoed ús deistich brea.
En ferjou ús ús skulden,
allyk ek wy ferjouwe ús skuldners.
En lied ús net yn fersiking,
mar ferlos ús fan 'e kweade.
Want Jowes is it keninkryk en de krêft
en de hearlikheid oant yn ivichheid. Amen
When William the Bastard invade England from Normandy, Old Saxon/English and Old Frisian was mostly mutually intelligible, but years of French language onslaught (English) and Dutch language onslaught (Frisian), made English and Frisian, siblings with different attitude.
Thank you very much for the trivia!!! I enjoyed reading through it!
And I'm glad you didn't turn it into Frisian! I can't read a single thing in that!!! >.<
On the other hand, the Scot part is fairly easy to understand, so I like that quite a bit, the way you changed it a bit to make it easier also helped though!
