https://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-hero-returns/ Regression. MC is the last person on earth to survive. Everyone else was killed fighting “Fafnir” the Predator who noshes on worlds. MC is the most powerful Awakened on earth, and he dies at last fighting an impossible enemy. He wakes up, and realizes he’s gone back in time. He gets very strong, very quickly. Unlike other regression novels, he uses his brain. He’s constantly asking questions. It is on WebNovel, but of course alternative places to read exist. It’s good, you will like. He’s not the kill everyone, and enslave the survivors, like some Korean regression novels. He is trying to be kind. However, he got taken advantage of, because of his kind nature in the past life, so he’s way more stern and ruthless. He does compassionate things in secret, though.
Alternative places can only be found if you dig deep enough. Anyway, how OP are we talking compared to lets say Reincarnator or something and is there a more than 2-dimensional love interest(s)
No love interests. Spoiler The predators are failed gods. So he’s decided, correctly the he has to become a god. Currently he can do multiple strikes in the tactical nuclear warhead range.
I read the title and was disappointed that it isn't the novel version of that absolute trash dumpster fire edgy korean manwha
The translator of the author's other novel said that the author is actually notorious in Korea for never including romance in his novels lmao. Apparently some Korean readers even think that he is a super virgin since he never writes romance.
Reading it now, too bad the translation quality is up and down and varies per chapter. Like Lichs being called Richies......... still an interesting read if you're into the whole dungeon tower thing. Also, the ripper guild is the reaper guild all of a sudden etc. lol.
That orgy on Florida Beach though, too bad it's never described lol. Was hoping that rich guy would bang ashlyn. Goddamn Korean novels and their Necromancers...
Probably because it's easier to write "Arise" and bam! Every enemy is done for, rather than a lengthy and descriptive hand to hand combats. This novel is pretty good, but it basically follows the same mold as its' predecessors. It's still a fun read if you have nothing else.
Having some tea with Binladen. Not the first 'real name' i've seen come by either, with Johnny Depp being the earliest i can recall, lol.
Fafnir traveled back in time too. He did the same thing the MC did…prepare like crazy, use his regression to get INSANELY stronger. Awesome plot twist, well done, author!
At this point, i'm expecting the MC to turn into a world tree and turns out he IS the tower, lol. This second life actually being the 6th or something.
I don't get why Fafnir would still end up as a predator. Ain't they just beings who fails ascenscion? If he already knows he'll fail, he should've prepared more and become a real God, untethered by mortal desires by now.
That's not how far back he went. He just went back the same amount of time as the MC as he piggy-backed his skill. What was shown in the tower on the illusionary floor, of how he became a predator might have been much longer before then. Also, he doesn't believe he 'failed' , they had differing views about it and his was that to become a god one must become a monster. Plus 'untethered' by mortal desires kind of sounds wrong as they 'lose' something that makes them who they are. The bull was mentioned to have a 'second path' compared to 'Bradley' , but MC mentioned him going for 'fulfillment' of his wishes which would be the third path and the results of which are yet unseen. p.s. i can imagine MC's 'regrets' being all the worlds that he visited and needed a 'Hero' or something, and earth needing a way to take care of itself, thus ending up creating the tower or whatever. Imagine the gatekeepers are all fragments of his emotion as he ascends and becomes the tower, lol. Anyway, place of the dead gods, his death aura at 98? ITADAKIMASU.
Ugh that's why I hate this time travel BS. There are way too many loopholes. When he died, there are tons of other monsters with Fafnir too, did they also travel back? Also when MCs return to the past, it's always the same "This shouldn't happen this soon!" Butterfly effect. Let's say Fafnir only return to a similar point as the MC's, I don't see why would he do things differently; He got everything he wanted on his first run. That time is way too short for a higher being like him anyway.
It's quite literally because he was being 'consumed' by Fafnir or something, dying while being eaten, so the rest didn't get affected. But yes, it is quite over-done, but the way he came back with him is pretty fresh. p.s. random guess: predators consume and take power from prey. MC got predated on, skill works upon death, but his flesh was already being predated on draining him. This exchange of 'power' already started, so instead of MC's fleshly body, Fafnir got sent back physically, while MC gained a new identity and his previous one no longer existed. (eventually having this new identity taught him that he can connect to and rely on others and grow as a person, overcoming deficiencies and will be why he ascends in a certain way and beats Fafnir? lol)
But you need to die for the Unique Passive to activate. Fafnir didn't die though. P.S. That's really cheesy, I got over Japanese fiction because of the overused Nakama power. Knowing Korean LN/WNs, I'm more inclined to believe that he'll surpass another stats barrier to achieve true ascenscion.
