Hi guys! I need some advices.
I want to buy a new laptop, but 'cause I don't really need one my parents won't help me so do you know some not so bad laptop in a range of 450/550€?
(btw I want to change my old one because last time it took me 2 minutes and 47 seconds to turn it on and 9 minutes 13 seconds to open chrome)

unless you have some ancient computer from the 1990s it should not take that long to open chrome, so you either have slow internet or tons of bloatware/viruses on your computer

I got an Acer for 450€ imo they're pretty good at that price range, but if you can get an asus it's even better but they are hard to find (the good ones anyways) for this price

With that much money spring for a desktop, you can use a desktop for years and replace parts instead of getting an entirely new cokputer.

If your laptop is within 10 years old, you'll find that wiping the HD and installing Linux Mint MATE edition (Do transfer important files to an external drive first) will often solve your problem in giving yourself a new-ish feel and increase performance. The OS is meant to be easy for people who are familiar with Windows XP to convert over to as well and unless you're going to be streaming flash movies it meets nearly all common needs (you'll want to make sure the laptop has at least 4GB of RAM or a decent processor to prevent skipping on older models prior to 5 years old). You can download the OS for free, Google it.

If you insist on a new laptop, look into Tiger Direct's Refurbished deals. You'll often save 40% and get a good selection of those which were returned or swapped if you check the refurbished laptops during May - August when people are shopping for college. All mine I buy for $500 and were actually around $1200 when new. I toss the OS and install Linux Mint MATE and they're good to run for several years.

What would you use this laptop for? Are you going to use it for everyday/office use or are you going to use this for gaming?

I'd recommend a desktop but the monitor, keyboard, mouse and headset will be separate from that so I'll refrain from doing that.

I would use it to things I can't do on my phone: watching youtube without hurting my eyes, manage files, exercise on programming for school, and play a bit(not games heavy, or new)

Get a Toshiba or buy the parts and build one, but i'd only recommend the second option if you have a specific thing you want to do with it.

Perhaps you could build one if you have time?
People say building a laptop/desktop is cheaper than buying a full one so...

It would be cheaper to install an ssd and a ram upgrade try the website mrmemory
8gb of ram is a good amount
There may even be some YouTube videos on exactaly your laptop if you put its model name and ram upgrade. There may even be an upgrade guide on the manufacturer s website

This is quite outside the realm of Novel Updates.

I recommend other places like the forums at Tom's Hardware or Notebook PC.
