Discussion Are there no decent rpg novels?

I started writting a wall of text so f that, I'm just gonna rate some popular novels:
God and Devil World 1/5 if you disagree please leave
Terror Infinity first half of the translated chaps 4/5 (maybe coz I was a noob back then) 2nd half 2/5
Infinity Armament 3/5 It was alright but since I put it on hold I don't feel like continuing
Other infinties 2/5 drop that shit
Everybody Else is a Returnee 3/5 it's fun and all, but the MC is too much of a loner, too OP as well
I have a Mansion in Post... 2/5 another sperm brained MC
Seul's Station Necromancer 3/5
Arifureta 80 chapters 4/5 after that 2/5
Doomsday Wonderland 2/5 starts promising but then characters reveal their horror movie intelligence
Long Live Summons 1/5 that humour is soo bad
Kumo Desu ga Nani ka first two thirds 4/5, then OPness bs 2/5
Reincarnator 1/5 one character only, pg 8 comic book action
The King of the Battlefield 3/5 better version of Reincarnator, action is better, story is going somewhere
Zhang Long 2/5 gaming studio harem stupidity with action described as he hit him with 40dmg, 3x combo, 50dmg crit! pls no

Don't even mention stuff like Death March or Death Flags... some people are gonna be butthurt bcoz of Reincarnator and LLS, whatever. LLS can be forgiven as not everyone has the exact same taste. The important question : Is there any novel like GDW only done right, without numerous irrelevant characters, sexism, nationalism... or some rpg in fantasy/sci fi? I don't have much hope except maybe for fanfics or novels on goodreads. This is a discussion but if I missed some gem feel free to recommend, though please don't do so if you disagree with my ratings much.

What is your definition of "decent"? Is it based on your opinion of its entertainment value, it's realisticness(is this a word?), or something else?

 

I have never read any series in that genre even after so long, and your post is something that I have to agree with, without reading. The basic concept itself is tough to perfect.

 

If you want a recommendation thou, I suppose "The Wandering Inn" is pretty good. I can't really think of any other RPG novels that can be considered great.

I think Absolute Choice is pretty good as well, at least the first half before the tower arc or whatever... Haven't read it since it moved to Qidian.

 

The Death Mage that doesn't want a fourth time is pretty good.
Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu is pretty decent, there is a twist hinted at about MC's personality that might be a game changer later on.

Give them a go, especially Death Mage.

Never heard of this "Vermillion," can you describe it and what makes it good?

 

Heavenly Calamity.
Apocalypse setting. Game system with level status. Mc is powerful but with not ridiculously so. Harem, but mc is not interested in getting in a relationship as he is too busy thinking how to survive.

 

I'd give The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound on RRL 3.5/5 and quite honestly I completely agree with all your ratings. There isn't really any GOOD rpg novels out there. But the best one I've read this far is definately this one.

The RPG genre, while saying there aren't any good series is wrong, I feel usually they trend towards lazy writing. While I enjoy the concept so I read quite a few of them, I can't really think of any that sticks out as really good.

 

Zhan Long...only RPG novel i read....too bad Qidian and Gravity r now married...and the novel is from 17K

 

maybe those genre are just not for you? 'cause even if we recommend things that we find good but your preference might not just agree with it

 

I actually read that, dropped it, read it, again dropped it and finally reached 213 chapters. It can have pretty good action, then the stupidity pisses me off. PG 8 comic book fights are when a mob gets his POV, and he goes running around Kuuu I will kill you! Kwarrhnr eh I can't immitate it well, just think of those idiotic wolfmen.
GDW is a zombie apocalypse with mutant beasts, rpg elements and modern weapons.

Realisticness I guess, not too OP MC, actual plot, preferably no harem, but if harem then keeping it small and meaningful, no sexism and nationalism (every CN novel where the character meets foreigners).

Half Prince is pretty good. The ending is a bit strange though.

I like Epic By Conor Kostick as well, however it is a English book and not asian.
