Prologue

The Ataraxia Sanctuary is known to many by a number of names. To the humans of the past, it was the House of the Hero King while it was the Castle of the Demon God to the demons of old. It is rumored to the present people of Seraphis as a holy realm called the World of Gods and Immortals. To the true gods, it is the Flying Fortress of God-Slayers.

To the legendary beasts and people of myth living there, it is the Islands of Paradise. To scholars, it’s the Realm of Knowledge. To adventurers, alchemists, and blacksmiths, the Land of Treasures.

To sages and saints, the residence of the Devas of Storms and Wisdom. To kings and emperors, their greatest backer from befriending or their greatest mistake in angering. Finally, to its inhabitants, it’s just simply a place called “home.”

There are twenty-nine floating masses of land of varying sizes. Each land mass have their own individual functions, environments, and climates. Facilities and locations range from a cavern entirely composed of magic crystals to a personal customizable dungeon to a dark mirror dimension.

The layout could be described to be a colossal-sized floating island at the center with nine smaller floating land masses connected around it in a circle.

The mainland is called Veritas while the nine connected islands accessible by magic bridge are named Verglas, Cascade, Hearth, Levin, Tempest, Petrean, Bullion, Umbrate, and Radiant. The name of these ten are also the name of their main cities. The majority of residences live on these ten island.

The mainland of Veritas holds Veritas City, the capital. It holds locations such as the Aurora Tower, Veritas University, and is the location of the World Tree and Spirit Beast Forest. It also where most dungeons are located.

The capital city, Veritas City, is a urban and suburban type area where skyscrapers of steel are also combined with skytop gardens and incorporate many technologies as well as nature to make a hybrid of a metropolis and small forest to allow magic beasts, spirits, animals, and people to live together.

Veritas is also where most people work and spend most of their days. The other nine islands are known as branches.

The branches are treated as the secondary residences. Many people travel to and from their residence at the branch island to their other home in or near Veritas City daily.

Four tall nameless islands fly high above the center of main continent representing the North, East, South, and West.

The five smallest islands are located under the corners of the mainland and operate as a separate mobile transport ship normally referred as Alpha, Beta, Omega, Gamma, and Phi. When in battleship mode, however, they become the Five Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Conquest, Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death.

Seven more are scattered all around while drifting aimlessly and are named after the Seven Heavenly Virtues in Latin: Humilitas, Caritas, Industria, Benevolentia, Castitas, Temperantia, and Patientia . The remaining three islands remain a secret.

Travel to and from the various islands are mainly through three different methods depending on the destination: using the teleportation formations, flying with magic or a mount, or using the magic bridges.

The islands are each surrounded by an invisible sphere barrier that controls the climate and weather while a colossal dome barrier encloses all the islands.

This colossal energy dome is responsible for concealing and protecting the entire sanctuary as well as helping to regulate the atmosphere, sealing in excess mana, controlling entry, and acting as the protective shell for when the sanctuary has to move or fight. It also allows travel through land, water, air, and space-time.

The main island contains thirteen magic towers that produce and refine mana while the others each have one tower which vary in size depending on the island.

These towers also function to clean the atmosphere, purify the land, and filter the energies on the islands. The sanctuary is also a home for a numerous amount of magic beasts, spirits and animals.

While the number of the people that are considered the citizens here is quite small for a nation and is only slightly over ten thousand, each possess immense power, skill, and ability that rival that armies and are all elites in more than one field.

All these individuals are under the protection of the sanctuary’s master, Sakamaki Iori. They strive to make sure the sanctuary thrives and to serve the him and his adopted daughter, Yoko.

Sakamaki Iori, a reincarnated Japanese that was reborn into the world of Seraphis. Through countless millenniums and hardships, he created many myths for himself and ended up establish a residence and manor that soon turned into the paradise, nation, and home of many.

Later, incorporating many of the cultures, sciences, magics, resources and knowledge of his old world and this one, he has allowed the sanctuary to grow into a technologically advanced and culturally rich and diverse democratic republic that also had godly military might, talented citizens, superior magic technology, advanced education, social equality, and a thriving industry in entertainment, cuisine, manufacturing, and agriculture.

The inhabitants range from high elves to sacred dragons to blood demons. Various races live and are employed in this large sanctuary: beastmen, humans, dwarfs, arachne, oni, medusas, pixies, orges, giants, machinas, and even liches.

Some are from ancient clans in hiding, others a part of discriminated races, part of an endangered species, or individuals that possess extraordinary talent and power.

They were first accidently gathered and became under the protection of the sanctuary’s master but later became the citizens of a small, but fantastical nation of legends and the family of the master they insist to call king.

Welcome to the residence of the Sakamaki Family: The Sanctuary of Ataraxia, meaning “serene calmness” as well as “not fearing gods.”

A spectacular sanctuary that literally stands above the world.

Chapter 1

In a laboratory stands a young man in a lab coat, he has crystal white hair with a small tint of blue and his features are mysterious yet handsome. Having a gentle and healthy physique that is well-built and strong only upon closer inspection, the man appears to be a person in his very early twenties, but he carries an aura of wisdom and maturity beyond his looks and sometimes gets lost in his thoughts and memories.

He possesses two eyes of contrasting colors. One is a cloudy blood crimson, left eye that contains an unholy abyss that seem to swallow entire worlds and death gods in despair and the other is a deep azure, right eye that seem to seem to contain the divinity to empower the stars. Each contain immeasurable power and seem to see through the secrets and soul of anyone who are gazed upon by them.

Surrounding him in this room are flasks and beakers of a myriad of shapes and sizes. Plants, ores, papers, and tools are scattered around. He is carefully observing a test tube above a complex magic circle that has a strange metallic liquid inside. He reaches out to various other test tubes before deciding on one containing a small amount of a blue liquid.

“One quarter orichalcum, a few drops of melted hihiirokane and mithril, adding chimera blood, six circuit catalysts, mercury gem, and star grass extract. Now the last step, a drop of refine liquid mana. If the combination works then the primary solution for the new liquid magic metal should be done.” (Iori)

He pours the blue liquid and waits to see the reaction of the mixture. The mixture starts to emit a slight blue glow before...

*C-crack..Ka-shhk*

The test tube crack as the magic circle shattered as a barrier surrounded the test tube as a safety measure. The man, Sakamaki Iori, sighs as he pushed the button underneath the table activating the clean-up magic formation.

“This is the sixth failure. Experimental Armament Validium 6A (Failure). Maybe I’ll need further analysis on the structures of prototypes or maybe it I need better material... Tomorrow, guess I’ll work on the new magic rifles.” (Iori)

*Beeep Beep*

A small white light blinks and beeps as Iori awaken from his thoughts. He looks at the clock that reads 21:02 and then at the black steel and mithril door before moving forward to open it.

When he opens the door, what appeared was a cute loli with angel white hair with a light hint of pink and a pair of bunny ears wearing a long purple dress along with a crescent flower hairpin. She was had the same mysterious and dominating eyes as Iori, the only difference was the positions were swap with the red on the right and blue on the left. She has her cheeks puff and eyes angrily glaring at him.

“Hmph! Chichi, you’re late for dinner! I waited for half an hour and now my tummies growling!” (Yoko)

Iori’s face smile at his daughter’s angry appearance.

“Haha, sorry, sorry. I got too caught up with my research. Please don’t get angry Yoko. How about this, we’ll teleport back to the house and we can have the special dessert I made?” (Iori)

Yoko’s eyes sparked with delight at his words and before returning to the angered look.

“Hmph! Don’t think that your words are going to work on me! I-Is it p,pudding? Don’t get me wrong! It’s not like I forgive you or anything, baka!” (Yoko)

Iori chuckles at his daughter's words and takes off his lab coat.

“Okay, I get it. You can quit the tsundere act now. Let’s get to the teleport formation.” (Iori)

Yoko’s expression returns to a smile and the two activate the teleportation circles. They arrive at the entrance of a very typical modern day home. This is the personal house that the pair live in when they aren’t at the extravagant and large manor or castle. They entered the home and changed into slippers at the front entrance before Iori enters the kitchen grabbing an apron.

With the sound of the door opening the figure of a transparent round blob could be seen appearing out of thin air. The blob was a slime whose transparent body was of a myriad of colors. It noticed that there was going to be food and teleported to the house.

It hopped and followed Yoko to the dining room. The slime was Iori’s soul beast named Mochi by Yoko, a contracted creature that will be a person’s one and only beast companion. One can have many contracted creatures, but they can only have one soul beast.

Soon the sound of food grilling and a knife chopping could be heard. Leviathan hamburger steak, grilled orc king strips, fresh mixed vegetables from the nymph's’ garden, carefully grown pearl rice, a bowl of miso soup, and for dessert, vanilla pudding with starberries and made with frost quail eggs and lullaby cow milk. The second all the plates went on the dining table, the two put their hands together while the slime put two tentacles together

“Itadakimasu!” (Iori/Yoko)
“Pyu~u!” (Mochi)

The slime jumped on an already pulled out chair and ate the large share Iori had prepared for it. The Iori ate as Yoko began to rapidly devour all the food. After a while, they prepared to chat.

“Did you do anything fun today?” (Iori)

“Yes! I had a spar with Natsumi-nee and I made some improvements in my martial arts too!” (Yoko)

“Great, let’s have a spar when in a few days. Let me see how much’ve improved.” (Iori)

“Um! I also forged this!” (Yoko)

Yoko stretched out her hand into the air and pulled out a jet-black throwing knife with small green engravings. She passed it to Iori who examined it as his blue eye glowed slightly.

“You mean the new idol group by the angels? I heard from Agnoren that they are the newest stars in the entertainment industry. Management is thinking of adding an idol’s guild branch to the entertainer’s guild. Those dragons sure are diehard idol fanatics.” (Iori)

“Oh, the latest magic rifles are going to be released to the battle academy and one of the limia maids is getting married. I think she's marrying one of the lycanthropes of the Verglas Brigade. Finish up eating. You too Mochi. There’s spirit magic training and mathematics with Elysia tomorrow so you’ll need to get to bed early.” (Iori)

Yoko’s ears drop down slightly at her father’s words and finishes her food. Iori smiles at her cute expressions. Yoko’s ears then began to perk up as if sensing something.

Noticing her action, Iori asks, “Yoko, is something wr-?” Iori too started to sense something. After a few seconds…

*R-rumble Klink-k Ruumbbble*

The ground started to shake and the dishes clattered. If they were anywhere else, they might of thought it was an earthquake, but they were in the Sanctuary of Ataraxia.

There was no way for there to be an earthquake since they are on floating islands in the air. It couldn’t be from the actions of a training ground, lab explosion since the house is in a secure and private area. Even if the volcano near Hearth City erupted, which is also impossible, it wouldn’t be felt.

Iori and Yoko exchange looks before both 【Warp】to the entrance of the main command and observation center.

Chapter 2

The two arrived at the command center. There were already six people present.

Frost Dragon King and Former Principal of Verglas Academy, Agnoren Dynern: His true form is a massive frost dragon wearing additional crystal ice armor, but in dragonewt form, he appears as an old man in his late sixties with nicely-comb, grey hair and a short beard wearing a nice black suit. He has visible blue scales on the sides of his face and golden reptile eyes and is currently acting as the head butler of the Sakamaki family. He is also an expert and teacher in ice magic and dragon magic. He is also a magic gem grandmaster. He holds the strength to end a city in seconds and brews one hell of a cup of tea.

High Fairy Queen and Guardian of the World Tree, Elysia Rose Bloomheart: A country-destroying mature beauty with golden hair and long pointed ears. She holds an elegant and cold air and possess four dazzling transparent wings on her back. She is the head maid and in charged on the battle maids. She is specialized in spirit magic and wind magic and also a peerless marksman with a sniper rifle or a bow as well as a grandmaster in enchanting. Famed with titles such as “Bow Empress” and “God’s Arrow,” nothing can escape her sights.

Blood Demon Exalt and the owner of the Gates of Cerberus Tavern, Blake Quinn: A tall quiet bishōnen with black hair and ruby eyes. He has two short horns on his head and slightly pointed ears. Cleanly dressed in a navy blue waistcoat, he appears as a silent bartender, but in reality is the chief strategist, a guardian of secrets and blood armament and black magic specialist. Blake is a reliable and intelligent man who can see through the emotions and past of anyone just by the type of drink they order.

Chief Fenrir and Ambassador of the Spirit Beast Forest, Ryu: With the ferocious head of a wolf from the neck up and the enormous body of an armored holy knight, he has a friendly and joking personality that contrasts his warrior appearance. He is an excellent general and leader in addition to being a skilled fighter. He possess the talent in being able to mobilize troops faster than the wind. When it comes to speed, mobility, and dominating the battlefield in any environment, he is unparalleled.

Flame Elemental Empress and Guilds Association President, Natsumi: An active and playful girl appearing in her teens with flaming red eyes and hair tied in a ponytail wearing a short white kimono and her entire hands and wrists wrapped in boxing tape. She holds genius skills in management and is a grandmaster in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts to the point no one including Iori can defeat her on technique and skill alone.

Emperor of the Shadowstalkers and Head of the Intelligence Agency, Heresy: Appearing as a black misty shadow in the shape of the face of the King of Hell with six eyes, horns, and a demonic grin, he is in reality a nice guy that is in charge of the many teams specialized in stealth, investigation, and intelligence. With the skills in controlling the shadows, he holds the power to get you information on almost anything and the power to topple any ninja or assassin clan.

These six were lined up in a line and bowed at Iori and Yoko’s appearance. Iori nodded before they got into they resumed into their positions near the control and display panels. Iori and Yoko then head to the central control panel which was a circular platform surrounded by hundreds of floating crystals and magic circles.

“Agnoren, What’s the current situation?” (Iori)

“The outer magic barrier is taking some damage. Overall shields are currently down to 37% and decreasing overtime slowly. We should be able to maintain them and prevent further decreasing if we prioritize the energy supplying the shields.” (Agnoren)

To be able to damage the barrier of the Sanctuary of Ataraxia to this extend already suggests something with great destructive power. Luckily they can still hold.

“Good, keep that shield running until we figure the situation. What is the public response, Natsumi?” (Iori)

“All civilians are ordered to remain calm. I said that we’d be getting more information and will make an announcement soon.” (Natsumi)

“Give me visual on the entire outside and any more information on the sanctuaries conditions.” (Iori)

Elysia interacted with one of the magic circles and crystals before a giant holographic screen appeared in front of Iori. The image began to materialize, but all could be seen was white.

“Elysia is something wrong?” (Iori)

“This is truly all we see outside. Every spectrum of light or way of viewing results in white. It doesn’t seem to be any magic. Everything still remain unknown.” (Elysia)

“Any information on the cause of this? If it was a planned organized attack, the intelligence agency or patrol should have heard of or spot something. Was it Skeletal Tail? Maybe, the Holy Light Empire? Or maybe the Court of Omen? Maybe the gods are attacking again?” (Iori)

Heresy responded to Iori’s words.

“Your majesty, our reports from the spies since this evening said nothing of planned attacks or schemes from those groups. The patrol a few hours ago was also perfectly normal. It's also unlikely to be the gods. Currently we can’t get into contact with any of the members outside the sanctuary.” (Heresy)

Those words surprised Iori because he knew better than anyone that communication between members of the sanctuary was nearly impossible to cut off entirely. Iori closed his eyes and was going to activated his unique skills to communicate when he felt a tug on his shirt.

“Papa, I feel space-time shifts.” (Yoko)

Iori carefully thought of the meaning of those words. He sharpened his senses and realize that there were unfamiliar and hard to detect fluctuations in space-time and the cosmic barriers.

“Focus all computers and devices to detect any cosmic or dimensional anomalies! Hurry!” (Iori)

A few seconds later the sanctuary felt another quake. This one was more intense and it nearly made everyone fall down.

“Your Majesty, the screen! (Ryu)

Iori shifted his shifted his sights back on screen as the white faded. What appeared was a mostly blue marble with large areas of land. The thing that left Iori speechless was small mass of land surrounded by water. Even after countless millenniums, he still remembered that particular shape

“I-It can’t be!?! J-Japan. I’m back on Earth?” (Iori)

Iori’s loud words also shocked the others.

“P-papa, we’re in the world you were born?!?” (Yoko)

Iori could only nod back in response.

*BEEP! BEEP!*

“The communications are receiving something.” (Blake)

Looks like there’s even more surprises.

Chapter 3

“Y-Your Majesty!” (???)

The imagine of the tearful smiling face of a woman appeared on screen. The interesting thing was the joyful face was on a severed head and held by the body of a female warrior in black armor who had a purple fame in place of the head.

Dullahan Knight Captain and Head Ambassador of the Ataraxia Sanctuary, Alexandra D. Maverick: She is an excellent leader and negotiator with a decisive and direct personality. Confident greenish blue eyes and stylish a purple bob cut hair makes her popular with both genders as well. Alexandra was instructed to work with other countries in bettering relations, do charity work, and strike down corrupted powers. With her trusted broadsword, Mmaagha Kamalu, she rivals armies and bring forths victory ceaselessly.

“Sob, Sob. I knew you’d come. Sob.” (Alexandra)

“Sorry, Alex, but could you explain the situation?” (Iori)

“Yes! There’s still a lot of detail, but I’ll summaries. As you can probably see. We are currently on Earth, the home of Your Majesty. What you’ve experienced is completing the arrival or crossing of the merging of two worlds. We have concluded that the world of Seraphis and Earth have merged into one with Earth as how you say the main body or foundation. We call this the Convergence. It’s likely some form of cosmic phenomenon that is used so a planet or world can evolve to a higher world.” (Alexandra)

“Thirty-Five years ago, 2024, the Convergence happened and Earth began to develop different forms of energy, most of which was mana. Mana started to built up as Earth evolved. Dungeons and monsters then started appearing. Humans with special power and abilities appeared alongside that. Magical resources like ores and plant too appeared. This unexpected and abnormal situation caused civilization and the population to fall since normal guns and bombs couldn’t harm the higher level monsters.” (Alexandra)

“The population dropped to around 3 billion after only five years. That was when development and thing progressed further. Countries and governments fell and rose. The humans became smarter and tried their best to gather individuals with special powers or abilities later called “hunters” to fight monsters and fight dungeons.” (Alexandra)

“Dungeons are nature monster nests like they were in Seraphis. The humans had to clean them out ever so often or else a Dungeon Break where monsters explode out will happen and harm lives. There also powerful monsters that appear outside of dungeons from spots of dense and polluted mana or mutated animals that turned into monsters. Hunters are rewarded and tasked with killing monsters, challenging dungeons, getting resources like magic stones, and protecting civilians.” (Alexandra)

“That was how it was for the first ten years. Then things and people started to appear. People from Seraphis would start to pop up as well as buildings, forests, and sometimes masses of land. Like how I said how Earth was the main body. The people of Seraphis and Earth then started to encounter each other. There were some conflicts, but due to the leadership of some individuals and the fact that some Seraphians had incredible power, an alliance was made to co-exist and we would help fight monsters. It’s been like that since. I was one of the first, one of the twenty-five years ago, who arrived and helped end the conflicts that concluded with the alliance” (Alexandra)

“The only forces and citizens of Ataraxia who were outside the sanctuary seemed to be the only ones that appeared uptil now. We were able to gather and formed a network and many organizations thanks to our superior training, powers, and blessing. I’ve been setting communication towers and methods to contact the sanctuary in case it appeared ever since.” (Alexandra)

The eight took some time to digest those words.

“Twenty-five years, huh. It’s been hard on you, Alex. Thanks for your hard work.” (Iori)

The dullahan smiled at Iori’s thanks as if all the years of hardship were worth it. Alexandra then turned around to an soldier that had something to inform her. Her expression then changed to a serious attitude.

“Your Majesty, a few minutes ago somehow all the dungeons are simultaneously showing signs of beginning a Dungeon Break. Can you please lend us a hand?” (Alexandra)

Iori revealed an excite grin as his blood boil in anticipation of the action that he hasn’t experienced in a long time.

“Natsumi, inform all citizens about all details and explain the situation. Ryu, get ready to deploy the troops. I want all of the main forces and supports for combat and protection of civilians. Keep our full strength hidden, still, keeping lives safe is always the priority.“ (Iori)

“I want Valkyrie, Spartan, Oath, Dragoon, Caduceus, and all forces up to class 4 to help. 4 or 5 personal per dungeon. And one support personal with healing per group to help injured civilians. Prepare with haste and ready at the drop zone. Agnoren will help with rescue procedures. Blake and Heresy will be help with communications and intelligence support from base. Yoko with me. Gear up!” (Iori)

“Alex, send us the coordinates. Elysia prepare the Starfall Protocol and send out this message across the planet. Radio channels, television, phones, mana frequencies, psychic waves, all of them. I want the entire world to know!” (Iori)

The message: Fear no more. Sanctuary is here.
