Nothing much, just the characters you like from the various manga, webnovels, and light novels out there. However, this is only manga and novels. No books and movies please. If you want, you can tell why, I guess. Also, make sure to include which novel or manga the character is from~ Hiruma Yoichi: A genius with a spiky exterior, he works harder than anybody else because he is a normal person. I ship MamoriXHiruma. (Eyeshield 21) L: Weirdo super genius. He is antisocial, has many bad habits, isn't the best looking dude around, and is hard to trust but that's why I love him. Eikichi Onizuka: Honestly a cool guy with guts. Not somebody I'd wanna be, but somebody I'd like to meet. And he's a freakin gangster. +1. (Great Teacher Onizuka) Also, I'll add characters I like to the poll . . .
I choose Shiba Tatsuya from mahouka~ he's emotionless and cool. You gotta love how smart he is and his power to disintegrate things is awesome~

You might want to be clearer in your OP/title, but novels ARE books, so you are contradicting yourself. Specifying webnovels and light novels or some other form of clarification would be a much better way to express what exact mediums you are looking for. And since you don't specify Asian either, I'm going to include a couple of my favorite characters from English Originals. Erin Solstice: A character of such quirkiness, such resilience, and such optimism. She is, in her own way, a true hero. She struggles with doing the right thing, follows her beliefs, despite the costs, and is ultimately willing to kill to do what needs to be done. She has here strengths and flaws and she lives with them all. Zorian Kazinski: I can identify with his character in many ways. His cynicism, yet struggle to do some good is intriguing. He has some morals, but is still quite selfish with those he cares about. He struggles to have strong relationships with others beyond mere business interactions, and frequently finds that his thoughts and opinions are well...wrong, and he isn't afraid to admit that.
Eyeshield 21 DeathNote GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) Seriously these are likable characters? One is a wimp who only manned up towards the end of the series, the other is from a lame thriller series about a teen genius turning into a mad killer cause he got a special book and all the bazar events afterwards, L is probably the only likable character... GTO? He's well, I don't know what to say... be it good or bad. I just wanted to say that. I actually have no favorites.
One of my favorites: The Commet King from Unsong. In his struggle to save humanity and destroy Hell he pulls off some crazy Things. Such as when he literally takes all of humanity hostage in order to threaten the devil. Sadly he is more of a side Charakter. I wish there were some MCs with his ambition and intelligence.
Sakamoto is a nice character, but if I wanted a dynamic character, I would choose Sawada Tsunayoshi. A middleschooler who is tasked to become the next mafia boss and becomes enbroiled in a long journey to being a badass.
I never choose a best character, and probably never will. Choosing the best meaning that the others that you like will be losing to that best that you chose.
