Finally caught up with all 60 pages~! Hello, I'm new to the Danmei Room. I think I've been reading BL for about nine or so years now, though the types I read and the reasons for reading them have changed over time. My favourite novels are No. 6 and The Legendary Master's Wife. It's nice to meet you all~!
I saw some people asking for Western works earlier in the thread, so I'll make some recommendations. Books: Spoiler "Strange Fortune" by Josh Layon - It's been a long time since I read it, so I don't remember the exact details, but it's essentially a fantasy adventure with a soldier escorting a sorcerer to find a dangerous artefact. I remember it being a good story, and pretty smutty. "Hero" by Heidi Cullinan - Very, very smutty. It has a love interest who fits the feminine uke archetype, and also happens to be a building. It's sort of cringy when it starts trying to include Japanese culture, though. "Litha's Constant Whim" by Amy Lane - A short novella that's a spin-off/side story of a larger series. I've never read the series, but this was a beautiful story that tore my heart out. Has sex, too. "Sleight of Hand" by Katrina Strauss - Another smutty novella. I think (think?) it's set around the Victorian era and has some Gothic elements, but it's not a dark story. "Demon by Day" by Helen E.H. Madden - If you really, really, really want sex, this is an entire novel full of it. The entire plot is fuelled by sex, the character relationships are fuelled by sex, the world is beyond weird... It's a trainwreck that's almost worth reading. Webnovels: Spoiler I only really know Twisted Hilarity's stories. "The Last Pure Human" is her best work, in my opinion, and the one she was writing when she went on hiatus. She still updates her blog, so she's not MIA, at least. (Warning: All of her stories have dubious consent. Proceed with caution.) Comics: Spoiler "The Prince and the Swan" - My favourite comic right now. It's based on Swan Lake, but with a longer story, more magic and mystery, and the authors' own fantasy world. (Bonus: Odet is a tsundere.) Everything by Sheilkuroi, bar Due Parti (which is about a trans woman and her boyfriend, but it's adorable). Her comics are here, and her art blog is here. "Behind the Obsidian Mirror" - A BL based on/inspired by Aztec mythology. There are a few others, but I'll have to dig them out from my old accounts...
Hi, I'm Briose. Really happy that there is this thread >.< For western works, I have no idea if it was mentioned but there is Captive Prince by C.S Pacat. It's really well written and it has a good plot, a good book all in all. Also there is Me, myself and I which is a short but interesting one. It's about a pill cultivator who discovers an inhuman imposter in his sect and ends up joining him. I'd also recommend "The Unicorn Legion", though it's on hiatus right now.

I finally got back into my Smackjeeves account, so I can give more Western comic recommendations~! Spoiler: Huge list "Cloe Remembrance" - A Victorian era BL that follows the lives of two boys from childhood. It's complete, and I remember it being quite a rollercoaster ride. "Forest Dew" - By the same author as above, and complete. A bittersweet tale about a boy with no sight who meets a mysterious boy who lives in a forest. "Acid Monday" - Warning for themes of drugs and addiction. This one is complete. A boy named Clover is forced to work in his mothers' rehab clinic as a mentor for a boy named Monday. Kind of dark. "Yaoi Fairytales" - A collection of short stories, all twists on fairytales. The twist is not always just yaoi, if I remember Snow White correctly. "Yaoi Tales: The Little Merman" - This was supposed to be a whole collection of stories, but it's really just the Little Merman. It's been on hiatus for a while, but the author wants to finish the comic and publish it all as one, so there's hope yet. "Kaito Shuno" - Infamous yaoi. It was personally one of my favourites when I was younger. There's non-con and dub-con and suicide and abuse... The story is interesting, though, if you care to follow it. (It remains unfinished because of crackdown/negative backlash, but has a sequel.) "Forced Seduction" - Complete. I don't remember the plot anymore, but the description makes it sound like it's a bet about romance that "goes wrong". "What Happens in Carpediem" - On hiatus. This one is about a virtual reality MMORPG team that takes on a new member. "In Debt" - On hiatus. A Grim Reaper brings a boy named Kid back to life and makes him pay off the debt by working as a maid. "Captive Soul" - Honestly, I don't remember the plot of this beyond "PIRATES!!!" But pirates are always good, right? (This one is on hiatus, but the author still has an active webcomic.) I also recently started reading "Avialae", a comic about a boy who begins growing wings and his boyfriend who helps him through it.
So. I was thinking the other day. Why women like yaoi. And I thought, could one of the reasons be, that in NSFW novels, while things are happening, there is more of an emphasis on the woman's reactions than the man's, and, with yaoi, no matter which of the two it is, it is a man reacting? And then I saw a thread today that reminded me, so, out of curiousity, I ask. Opinions?
