Actually they are right.as soon as it's done without the expressed(verbal) or written consent of said copyright holder it's technically illegal. That's why your schools follow certain curriculums and you are only supposed to do that with certain pre approved books. Your teacher or instructor would be in trouble if they didn't get permission first and it was brought to someone's attention higher up.

And soon as you distribute it publicly (post on website) you have broken the law. At that's how it is in the United States. *hell it's so much that if was just your intention and you haven't even distributed it yet it's still illegal.*

No matter how bad Qidian is, we have to admit that we have more novels now thanks to them, that's where I stand.

Qidian is dishonest, this much is proved. As for how dishonest it is, we can know for sure after the legal matters conclude. But from the situation, I would say Qidian is lying even about this.

So we have the most novels to read on QIDIAN. WOW, I sense bait. Once we are hooked in, they will sweep the fan translators. And then we will have no other place to go to, and this will be the time Qidian will reel us in.

Frankly I will deal with a honest merchant even if I will receive less profit than dealing with a deceitful merchant who is offering me huge gains, but the thing to think about is, at what cost?

If Qidian can do this to the community including translators, who work under them, to translators who are resisting them, it is a very naive dream to expect that Qidian will treat us as readers any better.

 

Qidian is a company, companies don't have good track records for people honest honesty. Personally it is up to the fan translators to evolve. 17l 17k and Zongheng novels are available, and sites are signing contract with other book sites, hopefully it helps the other Chinese companies increase their revenue and possibly reduce Qidian's monopoly in China.
A company is not a church, I do not look for morality in a company.

 

Legal matters. Please, like that's going anywhere. Have you ever heard of a fan translator suing the publisher ever succeeding in court? In any western court, it'll be thrown out in an instant.

In Chinese law, at least there's an exemption for fair use provided its for non profit purposes. But I'm hearing now about how WW is actually run as a business so that's void.

If Ren actually does something so stupid he's just burning bridges to ever get any official permission again.
