slight translingual pun: Little Fire = Huo'er = Emb'er --- Another person who suffers from second lead syndrome! *cries* It's the bane of my existence. Alanna not getting with Jonathan is my biggest gripe for the Song of the Lioness quartet. And Jo not ending up with Laurie in Little Women. And the shoujo girl not getting with the blonde-haired nice guy in so many mangas. I could go on for days... ;-; Anyway, I got a few chapters into Doomed to be Cannon Fodder and there were two guys. One nice, caring, wonderful one. And the other Long Heng guy. I KNOW WHERE THIS IS GOING !! *sobs internally* But then I continued reading and the author didn't bait us with the nice-guy trope that hard. Song Jiaoyue is nice and wonderful and all that, but it started to look like they really aren't meant to be. It's not like those second lead syndrome stories where female lead and second lead have such a beautiful friendship and are meant for each other, only to end up with male lead bulldozing his way in and delegating second lead to third-wheel status. Actually, childhood friend second leads are my weak spot :') As much as I love Song Jiaoyue, it's hard to ship him and Ms. Bai. Song Jiaoyue is the sort of upstanding character that is all for the bros over hoes. He wouldn't be the sort to wreck his best friend's concubine marriage. Doing that is the antithesis of his character and he wouldn't be the Song Jiaoyue I love anymore. The scene of him drinking and crying about not having a heart was so sad I would rather see a well-developed romantic subplot of him and some other nice female pairing. It would be pretty funny if he got paired with Miss Lin in the end. (or, can I ship him with myself ahaha...) P.S. I love the translation quality! Both translation and editing!
