It's a local delicacy here in Singapore. :D

Seriously though, people who tried durian and didn't like it probably ate a durian that was over ripe. Once a durian becomes over ripe, the flesh becomes mushy and the odour increases several times. A veteran durian eater would be fine with an over ripe durian but it would be hell for first time tasters. If you're ever going to taste any durian, you should buy them while you're visiting Southeast Asia and you should definitely buy the ones from popular cultivars.

Sure, once in a while, a good durian might appear when you're buying from unknown cultivars. However, only popular cultivars can ensure a certain quality in their products. Please get durians from better known cultivars like D24 and Mao Shan Wang. Even though their price might be a few times more than other cultivars, it's worth the price. (y)

I'm just across the sea to you. In fact, I made durian cakes and crepe last season. Those poor first timers....I always thought they should have been slowly introduced to the unique taste of durian. Whenever people generalize the taste, I have this urge to drag them under one of trees that produce a mild taste ones...

Or they should've started young. :D I heard that I was given some when I was still a baby, so I've always thought that the smell of durians was sweet. :ROFLMAO:
