I'd appreciate links to free resources that will help me improve as a writer. Resources can be books, websites that don't require paid membership, etc. Thanks in Advance.
Look for Linguistic websites. http://i.imgur.com/q6hcgsH.jpg <- Emotion wheel, a way to express your characters emotions. https://writerswrite.co.za/cheat-sheets-translate-emotions-into-written-body-language/ <- Expressing Body language. Also, try read more advanced English/native language books that uses a more complex writing style. Since they generally have a few tricks that can work for ya.
Let's start with me, try http://inkandquills.com/ it's quite helpful to me. Check this for an example http://inkandquills.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Character-Description-Worksheets.pdf Also, as I am not a native English writer and I do need to write in English, Google Translate and Thesaurus (synonyms) has been really helpful to me. For beginners there's also Englishpage.com to better understand the grammars. If that's still not enough, you can try to search what you really need yourself in Google. I found a lot from searching like that
http://shifti.org/wiki/Main_Page Go to this site it should help you especially what shadowwolfs, a author on the site, is writing there.
Surprisingly, some people upload a lot of stuff about writing to pinterest. http://www.hemingwayapp.com/ Part of the reason new writers suck so much is they add too much detail such that it scares away the bulk of readers. Remember the bell curve, most peeps are in the middle. If you write in the perspective of someone in the extreme, your story will only be readable to the few. Try this app, as it helps point out sentences and paragraphs that seem too convoluted and helps reduce cognitive overload.
Another little tip from me... When you write, don't focus too much on sentence structure. Just write, write, write. Do not stop till you find yourself incapable of continue. Only then, go back and correct your sentences. Alter them for better readability or simply restructure things. That tends to be easier and provide a better work in the end. And once you start doing this often, you will find that you subconsciously make less and less errors.
