Discussion How many chapters does a series on here or RRL need before you'll start to read it?

Pretty much what the title says

I usually wait until a series has 100+ chapters out before I start so I don't get left hanging... but if it's an RRL series then I'll start as long as there are 10-20 out

 

I usually will start reading it right away if the descriptions manage to lure me.

For me it depends on how many chapters in the raw there are. Frequency of translation and if it is completed or not. And at least 1/4 or the raw is translated or it is very highly rated

 

depends on release rate:
1 day = 50 chapters
2 days = 100 chapters
3 days = 100 chapters
4-10 days = 200-500 chapters
10+ days = not until finished

 

Not lower than 30 here. But the most important aspect for me is how regular are the chapters release

 

I read a series I feel will be interesting as soon as it begins.

Release rate or number of chapters don't matter. Worst case, I'll MTL it.

I won't start reading a novel without checking it's recent release frequency. If it seems consistent enough I'll read it no matter how many chapters (for new novels I check out the translators other novels if any).

 

It depends on a few factors, how fast the translator is, does the translator follow a schedule, does the novel sound interesting.

 

If it's by a great website ahemokubyouahemyaoiahem I'll definitely read a chapter or 2 before deciding if it's a long term relationship.

 

depends on the speed. It all depends on the speed. Nearly anything that takes more than a week for a release I wont read until it is going to be completed. Some series I will wait months or years due to the respect I have for a specific translator like: yoraikun or unlimitednovelfailures's PROzess.

 

Agreed with this. All about that speed for me as well.

 

this is almost what i do, but half a step in another direction. i do watch out for the release speed/translated chapters, but i mainly check if i liked the novel (description of the novel, first chapters, reviews and so on)

 

Well normally I like to start a series with at least 50 but stuff like God of Crime I pick up straight away because it interest me and I know unless it's for good reason it won't be dropped from the translator and the novel isn't still being published meaning no risk of drop from author. But as a bases 50 chapters, a release at least a few times a month and not dropped by author or translator.

 

15, needs to pass 1 page before I even bother to start. Unless I know the translator will finish the series. Few translators can be relied upon.

 

It depends. For example, how many chapters it has in country of origin and how interesting I find the synopsis/description, tags, genres, etc. as well as translation pace and some other things. In the past I wasn't so focused on these things, but now I really hate getting up-to-date with a series and having to wait. Nowadays there are series with up to 300-500 chapters that I still can't start, heck there is one with almost 800.

 

Depends on description, chapter release, reviews, recommendations and finally the number of chapters released.
The min no. of chapters must be around 80-100 unless the description and plot is so good that I want to read it instantly.
For example, I usually read yandere novels as soon as they are released even if there are only 1-2 chapters.
