I really like reading (once I've started a book I can easily read up to 200 pages in one go), but for some reason I always just push it back where it can take me months to finish a single book. Has anyone any tips for getting myself to actually start reading novels?
Once you read enough you'll be able to skip lines and use context to infer what happened in said lines. It can lead to some missing information, but it shouldn't be a problem when you're reading web novels since you probably know everything that will happen before it does.
You can skip detail description of women beauty, or the landscape of environment, or when the side character in trouble the villain is saying shitty thing and the mc come just in time(Skip the villain useless speech. He's going to die anyway.)
Try to skim read through some of the more "tedious" chapters (like battle ones) or if there is some overly descriptive chapters you can skim read through those.
I'm a fast reader,,, i think its because i only read the first and the last letter of each words... my mind just fills in whats in the middle... this pretty much saves me a lot of time when i'm fast reading...
Just pick a better book - one that will make you read several volumes in one go and crave for more! If you "push something back" - IMHO, it just means you don't really like it.
Sit down and read. If you don't want to then don't. You make it sound like reading is some sort of obligation, it's supposed to be enjoyable, and if you're not enjoying it then do something else. The books will always be there.
Don't read one word at a time. try to read multiple words together till you can read a whole line of text at a time. That's how I used to read textbooks at school But I don't do it for reading novels as when the novel ends it's a pain to find something else decent to read.
Fully aware of that. But it's very annoying for me if someone gives me a book and I don't read it in less than a month or so
Skim reading with precision memory is the way to go tbh. I glance over every single word and let it flow into my head. People who skim read by skipping words or sentences are plebeians. If you read that way all the time you won't have any attachment or feeling from the book. All I can say is read more and learn to read fast. It's like running. The more you run and the harder you run, the more you CAN run and the EASIER it is.
unless you are reading something like Invisible Dragon, the more u read some material the more faster u become able to read next time. Things just take time.
Fixed the title since a lot here might have misintepreted as me being a slow reader (which I am definitely not btw)
Then go somewhere without distraction. Being within reach of a computer/tv/video game/cell phone instantly makes reading exponentially more difficult. Grab the book, go for a walk and find a tree to sit under, or go to a coffee shop, or the library. Stay there until you're done with the book, or until you feel like you've done enough. Read while walking on a treadmill.
Erm... yes I did. OP wanted help on how to start reading novels so I suggested an easier way for him to read through chapters.
Sounds like he has issues with the sitting down to read part, not the act of reading. One of those 'starting is the most difficult part' posts.
