Elf Language, Japanese and Magic language(Fictional...) Maybe I can use a translation magic for English~
Losing 'common' language [English] for the sake of learning others [multiple] that less common from the previous isn't really good option. Moreover you can't regain what you have lost. Conclusion: not an option where you want to interact with others that used [English]. Only valid as an option if meet conditions: 1. Not interested understanding anything that used English language 2. You live in a place and situation where English isn't needed for both your lives, knowledge and entertainment 3. If someone use English to talk to you, your mind don't give a damn trying to understand them. 4. You have 'Plan B method' if there's any emergency need to communicate or interact with society that used English.
Losing English would be almost too big of a hit. Now if I could take a variant, I wouldn't mind as much. (Aussie or Irish would be fun. Gotta swear properly.) As for other languages - Science or physics or maths would probably be top choices. (Just think of all the things you could explain, or talk about. Space flight; time travel; invisibility armour, etc) as for other the othe language... Maybe Esperanto or 'Business language'. Ya know, a constructed languages that gives you the basics of a ton of languages by itself. (So you're not 'learning' other languages, but just fulling in the holes.)
Yes, cuz Fus Ro Dah, bitch. Though seriously, being able to speak dragon often gives you some type of ability, which is just awesome. Anyway, using my perfect knowledge of shouts I will launch a worldwide conquest. Then, assuming I succeed of course, I'll force everyone to acknowledge Chinese and Latin as primary languages, because those are the other two ima choose. I noticed the tag, but still choosing Chinese. As for why, I like the characters. Latin has always struck me as an interesting language, what with it being the root of many other ones and such. Plus things just sound cooler in Latin.
3 Language for the rest of my life? No thank you. I mean, I probably wouldn't mind not speaking english. >.> I mean, there are people in my country who can't speak English at all and they're still alive. However, this might actually kill me I wanna learn at least 5 languages~ So three is not an option!
Chinese, Russian, Spanish Chinese because I am bad at it Russian because I need to learn more about vodka Spanish because it's love and life English is already okay so no need for cheat code to make it perfect
Well... I like to learn Japanese (of all dialect spectrum), Chinese (of all dialect spectrum) and Humish (the fictional lingua franca of the Sol Empire in 23th century from one my novel, any resemblance to 21th century English is just pure grammatical coincidence) What? Fictional language is okay, right?
1. 2. qaD vaj bopummeH vIDelbogh Hegh 3. Spoiler: Who still need that lowly human language once can speak this one? {}
I won't do this. I plan on learning over 5 additional languages(currently only know English), and won't give up English. I'll also be limiting myself too severely.
The First Language. I will trade anything for the ability to understand, speak and write in The First Language. It's the language of heaven! With that, I can cast magic. Magic I tell you! Of course I'm not talking about Latin, Hebrew or Aramaic. There's a reason why Latin is a dead language. Everyone kept accidentally summoning demons. Hebrew? They kept summoning prophets. Aramaic? I have no interest in meeting desert spirits.
I'll pass on this~ my family would freak out if I suddenly couldn't speak English. And the only way I'd have to communicate with them would be if I picked my mother tongue as one of the three. So I'd really be getting 2 languages. It's not worth it~
1. Maths 2. Programming. I'll have to see which... 3. Arabic. Loss of English is sad, but eh, I still have French and Chinese.
He meant to bypass your rule, you said we will lose English but what if the language we asked for is English itself? It'll be contradictory unless you add a clause that "any languages with English as exception/ the drawback is having higher priority than the wish."
French (because mother-language ftw), english (because pretty useful), mandarin(because novel + most people on earth speak it + business)
1.English = With my now perfect understanding of english i can now understand those unintelligible regional accent 2.Japanese = I want to read all those jp light novel 3.Latin = with my supposedly perfect understanding of it will make other romance language learning easier i guess?
