I tried to ask permission to translate but he didn't permit me and want me to stop, what will you do other translators?

    This is his reply

(He also put an English translation of it)

Do you appear in the site without taking the permission?
At first is it not a thing to send to the site after taking the permission?
I cannot give permission so much if it is taken a self-centered action.
I'm sorry. I cannot give the permission.
My work is the maiden work.
There is the work which is better than more me.
English, please translate the work of other gentlemen.

Though I want to continue it, I don't know what should I do in this situation.

I already gave the URL of my translation

Did you tell him why you wanted to translate it? Did you tell him you're not profiting from his work? From his tone he really does sounds pissed off lol...

If he still replies in the negative then all you can do is ask to leave what you have translated as a teaser so that others will be interested in his work. If he still asks for you to remove it then all you can do is move on.

    Actual translation:

"You posted it onto the internet without asking for permission, didn't you.
Shouldn't you be asking for permission first, before posting it?
How could I give permission to a person who does something so selfish?
    I'm sorry. I can't give you permission.
    This is my maiden work.
There are plenty of other works better than mine.
    Please translate somebody else's work."

And yeah, some people get really pissed. They have a good, good point.

Rdawv is correct, although you want to translate it. And for personal use can. If you publish it without permission you can get in some very deep shit.

Indeed I think its dumb for them not wanting their work translated when most of the time its proven more helpful. Imagine if RisingDead never had permission to translate. I think its better if you give the reasons to your motives when asking for permission. I don't know how you messaged him lol. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you can translate something lol. All of us here are hungry readers

From whatever the author has said (in JP), it sounds like you are already posting chapters on your site without his/her permission. Well that is not a good thing.
Now if the novel is a WN, say to author like sorry. I will not do this again....add whatever you want. Now add: This will be a english translation just for fans, basically fan-tl. It will have no issues with the licensing and it's not like I'm (you) going to have this published in hard copy. So please can I TL it.

Yeah, the author made a really good point, I say respect his decisions and look for a new one as he says.

On other note, I just asked permission from the authors of 2 of my projects, wish me the best of luck ;(

    Afterthought:

Just write something about how you weren't completely confident about your translation style, and needed some feedback from strangers to see if it was viable to continue in the long run.
Mention that you really liked his work, and wanted to translate for free and do it justice, which is why you needed people who weren't your friends to tell you how you were doing first of all, before making a decision.

Then, add in your typical 嫌な思いをさせるつもりではなかったんです。誠に申し訳ございませんでした!and if you're bold enough, try and subtly blame the 非常識な actions you took as possible 文化の違い.

I'd remove the translations altogether. You gave him your online identity and if he wanted he could pursue you legally. I'd just remove it all and start on another project instead of taking your chances.
Plus it is just best to respect his wishes, it is his story and if he doesn't want anyone to translate or even just you to not translate it i'd let him get what he wants.

How many of you write reviews, or even have accounts to boost their number of favourites on syosetu? How many of you actually buy the light novels when the author is lucky enough to get an adaptation?

Don't just assume that a bunch of unknown readers from god knows where liking a person's story is enough to make them feel indebted and grateful.

    Helpful? Helpful how, exactly?

Yeah, you can try to convince him once, honey-dick him, and see where it goes. If he still won't budge after that, then just move on and let go. :D
