I'd say to support the authors, or because they are the average End-User...
I only pay for stuff I've already read and tried so that I know that my money is given for something good.

I'd imagine to support the author. In our case, we would like to do the same and actually have no problem if Qidian makes money out of this venture. However, their conduct and the backstabbing that is said to be taking place has ruffled everyone's feathers. At this point, we would prefer to oppose Qidian so they make no money off translations and instead find another way to direct support the author, be it direct donations or some other method. I personally don't know any alternative as I'm waiting for the dust to settle before deciding how I want to proceed. Worse, I'll just stop reading. Plenty of novels to read, games to play, anime to watch, outdoor activities to experience, and family to spend time with. Really, I should be spending more time with my family.

    1. Pirated chapters are often hand-typed (i.e. the pirater has a Qidian account, buys the newest chapter then types them up) so they usually have a ton of typos/missed words/etc which makes reading a huge pain. Pirated sites usually have a ton of flash-based ads that can be extremely obnoxious.
    2. The chapters aren't awfully expensive, and for readers who can afford the chapters it's a good gesture to show support for the content-creator (author) so s/he can get more reward from the site since Qidian classify its authors based on subscription numbers of their novels.

Well said. Qidian definitely made a dumb move by appearing too greedy here (although a lot of the "I don't care I just want my free stuff" reactions from the community aren't much better). I just want a system where authors can get their fair share of the profit and not just a symbolic "thank you" when translators take all the credit.

Sorry I have to disagree. It's pretty ignorant, Google and Yahoo got a lot is in venture capital.
The started from in the garage nothing is a myth.
Apple got a billion from Bill Gates. Facebook got a lot from Gates too.

I find this whole drama interesting. If there was any kind of legal steps Qidian could take to stop WW it would have happened. Specially with Tencent's background. The reason Qidian had to resort to publicly asking for their novels back is that there is no way to effectively stop this. It also helped create drama and scare away the translators.

No offense, but putting effort to convince you otherwise doesn't seem worth it considering both your posts, so I'm not going to bother trying to change your mind - esp cus I'm in the middle of something.

All I'll say is ur wrong!!

Just saying that QQ and WeChat (copied from whatsapp, snapchat, and credit cards) are both an absolute necessarity in china. E.g. you sign in in LoL using your QQ number. It's more important than your email adress. You can even pay with WeChat (WeiXin)

So, TenCents has China in his pocket.
