Is MTL based translator can be called a translator

So according to oxford dictionary translator is "A person who translates from one language into another, especially as a profession."

So my argument is as long as he/she translates from one language into another he can be called a translator, if he/she use machine to translate, thats only a tool for translator

 

Technically they are translators. Since they translate stuff.

But they're shit.

we are called Machine "Translator" for a reason.

 

if MTL was up to rainbowturtle's standard id enjoy reading it, otherwise its just painful. I consider quality of that level an actual translation.

Depends if they are able to understand and correct the sentences into something more fitting. If they can, they can be good translator.

 

Pure semantic its like putting a mall guard and a swat in the same light. they both protect people but Would you put a mall guard in a mission to rescue people?

in my opinion, they aren't the one translating.
Yet at the same time, since they are using a thing to do it for them, they are the thing's user and therefor a translator.

So they are both and neither, it just depends on if you want to call a driver someone who controls the car or just uses a program that controls the car. think about that and you have your anwser i guess.

Technically they are translator. But just in technical aspect. Whether the quality of works is good or not isn't included. In our community, what we're reading is a story, it is much more comprehensive than just translating word for word. There are idiom, grammar, word of choices and all that kind of stuff. If i am a professional translator and i was compared t translator who only use machine translator i will be insulted.

I feel that, as long as they make a noticeable contribution to the translation and makes sure everything is correct, then its fine to call them whatever. I mean, I've read on LNMTL a few times, and that is ripe with inaccuracies. But I feel that they need to spend a considerable amount of time on editing to be considered one. But at the end of the day, as long as its readable and they put in some effort, I will be fairly happy.

 

For me as long as it's good quality and understandable from one language to another it's a translator.
