So here I am procrascinating after watching Youjo Senki, speed painting 2-3 hours trying to emulate the light novel's illustrator style. Though for the character design I'm using the anime version since the light novel is kind of inconsistence as reference. It's fun doing rough style like this and it's fast to do, I spent too much time on this so I just do some half assed background lol.

Edited the eyes and orb a little bit from previous upload.

The thread title is temporary, probably changed it if I do another series fan art/original later.

I'm not that good at flattery, so i'll do constructive criticism.

I'm not sure if it's just me or if it's the perspective, but it looks like the Type-95 is a bit more to the left than she usually has it.
And because she's an officer, she's usually seen in a more greyish uniform, this particular dark green was more for the NCOs.
I don't particularly think we've seen a rifle like that yet in Youjo Senki, in particular the scope.
And her hair color is usually described as blonder, and I don't think she managed to cover most of it in blood so.

But that's just my comments, and i'm a stick in the mud sometimes, so don't take them as extremely important.
And i'm very poor at painting myself, so best I can do is to comment on others' skills and maybe help them out.

    Thank you :D
I did mixed them up together lol, and personal touch will never disappear in art.
    Thanks!
Eh, you don't know? It's 3 episodes already xD Thanks!
    Thank you! :D
    Hard work bro...
Well of course, for still art like this I can take hours to paint while animation need to be done in a very fast pace. It's not a fair comparison.

No problem, honestly as long as it's constructive criticism I'm thankfull of it. About the Type-95, I think it's because I do it without checking so the balance maybe off a little bit. For the uniform I'm using this character sheet as reference http://youjo-senki.jp/character/?chr=1 and it's greenish... The hair, well that's my personal preference coming out lol XD And the rifle is a random rifle which I don't even know the name since I randomly used photos from military shots as reference... xDDD

I think the Type-95 from the Manga is a lot more cooler looking to me but the picture is awesome too

Ah, I didn't check the manga version's design for the orb... Just checked it right now, and found out that it's a pain to draw lol, the anime one is simpler and easier to draw 8'DDD

Hmm... Is there something wrong with her eyes? I feel like one of them is strange?

A manga chapter needs a lot more time to draw compared to single painting like this since they need to think about the storyline, pacing, panelling composition, etc. They also need to discuss with their editor to proceed with the draft storyboard sketches before they can draw the actual manga, this process takes time.
It seems I draw the eyes a little bit off alignment from each other, for now it's fixed, do check it again whether it's still strange or not.
Ahaha later if I have times maybe.

A batch of old light novel fan arts I made back then, mostly Roxy from Mushoku Tensei and Nashetania from Rokka no Yuusha.

Looks pretty~ I really like the hair. I'm still trying to master that kind of style.

I think her chin is jutting out a slight bit too far left? Either that, or the right eye (her left) seems too high. I'm getting the impression that the jaw is almost a side view rather than a 3/4 view like the rest of her face.

Do you have any tips/resources/tutorials at hand for how to do the lineart like in your Rokka no Yuusha drawing? I've been trying to adopt that kind of style for ages now, but I just can't seem to get it to work out. :notworthy:

I do the lineart last, it's kinda weird maybe but I'm better at utilizing volume than lineart so usually I just paint in roughly then after the form is shaping up and I'm satisfied I'm adding the line to the painted results. When I do the Rokka no Yuusha one , I just did it rather roughly so it's kind of having incosistent lines....
