    Nah...........
NUF people are weird but not toxic...
See the thing below our ID avatars?

Now, try to see the users that debate in QI, GT or WW threads......

Most of the account was created in May to July 2017 (when WW-QI war was heating up)
Most of them had Messages (Thread Post) Less than 1000. Some even less than 100. I bet most of their post was limited in QI,WW,GT war thread. I think we receive many new members during the last four month.

They are not the usual NUF residents.
Truthfully, I am very apathetic of this Great Chinese Translation War...

We're still doing it, though. There's nothing weird at all. @Yukkuri Oniisan , @estelion , the guys at Omega Harem, Moonbunny Cafe and a host of other translators (mostly Japanese stories) are still doing it with money not even being part of the agenda. I'm not even counting people who translate quietly without listing their blogs on NU. Just because you guys are used to taking money, doesn't mean it suddenly feels weird or strange when you stop taking it.

As you said, we're willing to commit piracy, bear the risk of legal action and the subsequent loss of work, dedicate anywhere from a couple of hours to 6 hours to translate and ask nothing in return (except for thanks and art appreciations). Why is this a big deal? All of us are fine with it. Some of us even ask permission from the authors, and we get it. Like the title I'm translating, I got permission from the author to translate it and share my translation as long as it's only shared at my blog. If one day the author revoke his permission and wants me to stop translating, I will stop, period.

The only way fan translation can survive like it has always been for decades, is to return to a state where money is not the reward. It has only gone to shit since people start taking money under the guise of 'donation' when it's actually 'commission'. I'm not referring to people who actually use the correct term of donation.

It's funny though. I could understand someone translating regardless, and if people donate, yay. That's an amazing system. But moment you begin donate-walling chapters or the sort, it's no longer about doing something you enjoy - you're doing it for the money really and abusing the community. At that point you're not a 'fan-translator' - that implies you're a translator as a fan, not a profiteer.

Well basically fan translations are made to promote the Author's work.
If you end up going against the author will i'm not sure you can call yourself a fan anymore.
Btw if the amount of money involved is small (to buy raws or site costs) i think it's still fine.

Well that's still part of donation money if you were to ask me, at the least.

    That's wrong......
    Fantranslation actually begins like this:
Guy A: Hey this story is good. I think others should read it. Hey Guy B, this is a good story!
Guy B: I can't read moonrunes... I am stupid at speaking moon language...
Guy A: No worries, I'll translate it for you.
Guy C: Hey, Guy A, can I read the translation of yours?
    Guy A: Sure.
Guy C: I think, my friend Guy D want to read it too.
Guy A: Then, I'll make a site for it.
    Guy C: Thanks.
There is no motivation other than: "I want the other guy to read this!"
If not, then Guy A will read the story by himself and for himself, and not spend 6 hours translating stuff when he could watch 4 episode of KDrama.

Don't worry it sounds wrong even to me now that you pointed out.
Promote -> sharing with others people (sometimes it ends even to make the story super popular and like a side-effects it helps the original author). Something like this

I think you misunderstood me  My friend, nothing in my post said it was no big deal
Geez no big deal, I'm supposed to be super screwed over by this new revelation out of all people :blobunsure:
Sure people can say what they want to say, but they should do it in a more civilised way.

Let me reword then, it's the reader's choice to boycott, definitely  But by doing that and going to aggregators and pirate sites, it's just bad
Well I saw one post telling people not to boycott QI, because without ad revenue then they'd implement paywall because TLers need to be paid and servers maintained, if everyone boycotts then no income from ads. :hmm: I think that makes sense. For the stupid bad stuff they did like stealing WW novels, that's what Ren is going to court with them for!

Don't tell anyone, it's a top secret confidential behind-the-scenes thing

I also think you misunderstood me my friend, I said you making it look like no big deal.. well it might be for us but for some, he might as well killed a dozen of baby pandas, we all have different views on this. I don't see why can't a civilized person be mad or angry at someone, even monks get carried away sometimes when having a bad day. If you have proof that we aren't acting civilized in your standards then please understand that there is a shitstorm happening.

Edit: screwed over the most out of people?
