    So, in short -
    • Qidian allowed WW 20 novels to translate.
    • WW currently had 31 novels instead, with 11 extra not being part of the agreement.
    • Since content copyright goes to Qidian, they can DMCA legally.
My analysis (in a logical non-biased form):

    Qidian's stance:
    1. Content copyright belongs to them, under the law that we all are bound to, they have the explicit go-ahead to request a DMCA
    2. According to their contract, it was stated that they allowed 20 novels.
    3. Translating/ having more than 20 from Qidian = without permission asked to them, they felt that it is in a disrespectful manner to just not follow the contract.
    Translation community stance:
    1. Feels that it's a dick move for them to DMCA, as there is a "claim" that Qidian once said that they won't do so.
    2. Feels that it will harm the translation community, this will destroy translators mood to translate
    3. Don't like Yen-Press stance/ Just don't like this without a logical reason
    4. Feels that although the content belongs to the Qidian company, the translation work belongs to the translator instead. A sudden DMCA would destroy TL hard work.
In conclusive, the whole issue revolves around 'permissions' granted, to translate the original work; and contract agreement abiding.

    Any more to add on?

This was a nice crash course on bussiness ethics. Taken straight from the most obnoxious book of plays from big companies. They have been sending emails threatening people from the start, and now it's come the turn for the sites.

Way to go Qidian. But after that you only need to have the PR guy to write a few smiley emoticons here and in Reddit, and to tell people you really care for the community. I just hope people really starts to see you by what you really are.

spoiler: Paywalls come next, because everything has moved in that direction. Crush the market, have a monopoly, charge your price.

Well, about that point, I'm not sure whether if the original owner was aware or not; there was no confirmation on it, and secondly, where would he be placed? Qidian side? Or translator's side? More probably than not, since the writer writes under Qidian flagship, he would be under Qidian side?

It's vague, so I'm not listing it unless there is some evidence.

Qidian did express multiple times, everywhere that they wouldn't do anything to the translators and would want to work with them, no? I read that in like, ten thousand threads. This is really "working" with them.

Translations are protected as a derivative right, no? So translators have the right to their work unless the contract says otherwise. They just can't sell it.

Qidian is also pissed that after a lot of money and time spent negotiating with Gravity Tales, WW comes in out of left field and several of those novels that were under negotiations move to WW, making their efforts come to nothing. They already did something of this sort to Gravity Tales over the same issue (Forty Millenniums of Cultivation).

Yeah, those 11 novels are not being translated by you so why do you care? The qidian site is full of poor translations that seem rushed to get that pay per chapter revenue, you gave translation rights to shit groups like novel saga, reading martial god space is a chore because they keep changing the freaking terms for sword qi, spirit qi etc.

both that can shed some light over the GT problem if those translation moved when both sides (GT and WW) were negotiating with qidian it could possibly mean that both sites weren't getting similiar deals and transalator put more faith in WW for getting a better deal or not*

*all theories states above are my own opninion without the full inside knowledge of what happen

Yup, they can come to agreements with Translation Nations, Novel Saga, etc. but they have to go do this to WW. It's so obvious they're just trying to crush their biggest competitor and build a monopoly. True colors really showing there. As a reader, I care. When a monopoly forms and there's less competition, it's just bad news for us readers in the end.
