    Chapter 1

When I was teen attending high-school, isekai-genre web novels were a popular fad. Ordinary and extraordinary high-school students going to mysterious other-worlds as summoned heroes, meeting many cute girls, forming a harem party, exploring the wide world and finally defeating the Demon Lord and his army! Sometimes, the formula was changed with betrayal, gender-bender, etc. added into the mix.

Anyway, it was a good way for chuuni kids to focus their overactive imaginations into something productive. Even I wrote a trashy novel with all the trendy tropes and even got into the top 10 list! I still remember my enthusiasm watching the ‘Favorites’ count slowly rise up, all those years ago.

Even when isekai novels faded away, bringing a new golden era to the light novel industry, some remnants of that sad fad still remained. One of them was the Galge, ‘LoveyDove Magic Academy’.

In reality, that game was my little sister’s. While most boys wouldn’t turn a glance towards yaoi, girls would happily put up yuri manga in their bookshelves. Like this, my sister invested hours into playing this game, controlling a <<summoned hero>> Japanese high-schooler and helping him get into the panties of princesses, knights, ladies and the assorted teenage noble descendants of a fantasy Western Kingdom.

I usually replied to her enthusiasm while playing the game with a single ‘tsk’. However, one day, when my dear imouto ran up to me with the Vita saying, “Help me, onii-chan!”, I put on my big-brother glasses and decided to help her.

In this case, my sister was stumped by a BOSS battle. While my sister was pretty good at clearing VNs, video game battles were her weakpoint. When I thought I could solve the trash sounding ‘Asmodeus, Guardian of the 1st Dungeon’ in a few minutes…

…It surprisingly took me an hour instead. At that moment, my interest in this game shot up like a rocket.

Since that day, every few days later, my sister would bring me a new BOSS to fight with. All the Guardians of the Five Dungeons, the Mysterious Assassin, The Demon Lord… As I cut through them for my sister’s wish, my enthusiasm for such a good battler warred with my distaste for porny galges. Finally, after achieving 100% completion, my sister bought a new game and engrossed herself into it. And I was free to pick up ‘LoveyDove Magic Academy’ to play myself…

But this isn’t a story of my first and only playthrough of a galge. This is the story of rebirth.

    +++

“Prince Wilfred! You should refrain from exhausting yourself to the bone like this! It’s been 6 hours and you have been keeping up with the Palace Knights through their training! While you can use stamina potions and healing potions as you wish, watching your tiny body shake in exhaustion is too much for us!” In the Royal Training Grounds outside the Windshire Palace, the burly Captain was lecturing a 7 year old boy.

“Captain, you don’t have to worry. I have been guzzling down potions like juice, so there is zero possibility of injuries. Anyway, the training session is over, so I’ll be going for now. I have my Etiquette Class for now, so I can’t be sweaty. Dressing up will take a while, so I’ll leave for now!” Saying this, the young prince interrupted the captain’s speech before hurrying away.

“This Prince Wilfred… He has amazing talent in learning languages. As the crown prince of our kingdom, he could be a peerless diplomat, winning victories without war and let this era of peace continue. So why is he hellbent on training to be a knight? Basic exercises for an hour or half is alright, but he insists on training for 6 hours with the knights!” The captain’s exasperated words were tinged with admiration. For six months, this boy seemed to have caught a training bug, and would always come to train with the knights. The Palace knights had already accepted the prince as a training comrade!

    +++

In my bedroom, I had already stripped off my training clothes and was wiping away the salty sweat with a towel. After applying some talcum powder, the stench of sweat was replaced by the fragrance of talcum. After quickly putting of a suit and winding up the tie, I was finally presentable enough to Etiquette Class.

“I never expected that my genius-level skill in learning languages would saddle me with the expectations of learning diplomacy and etiquette…” I couldn’t help but sigh as I rushed towards the class. The exciting magic battles hadn’t even begun yet, so I couldn’t give up! Eight more years for my rise as the ultimate battle magician, I couldn’t wait!

I, Wilfred Windshire, am actually a reincarnated Japanese highschooler. It had been 7 years since I was sent to this world, 5 years since I realized that I was in the world of LoveyDove Magic Academy and 3 years since I realized my identity as the villainous prince Wilfred Windshire.

Since realizing that I had been reborn into a world of magic and swords, I spent countless hours recalling Wilfred’s story, his magic techniques and his romantic interests. After I was strong enough to pick up a pen, I spent hours writing it down in Japanese, a language I was assured no one in the castle could read. Time was spent on hearing the strange language and slowly but steadily comprehending it. Time was spent acting like a normal child, so that I would not arouse the suspicions of being a devil-child.

At the age of 4, when I was allowed a tutor, I slowly began to unveil my abilities. Showing the skill of a born genius in speaking and writing the native language of the Windshire Kingdom while remaining decidedly average in all other fields, I was allowed several other language tutors to foster my talent. The sweet songs of the Elves, the coarse rasps of the Barbarians, the drunken ramble of the Dwarves, the feral speech of the Beastmen and the cold drawl of the Demons… all of them were learnt by me. Common sentences of hard to find races like Fairies, Imps and Orcs were also learnt by me.

Of course, there was a reason behind my efforts. In Magic Academy, most heroines spoke different languages. Knowing their languages would give some easy affection points. While I was not planning to form a harem, I was still the villain and most heroines were at negative affection i.e. dislike with me. Making an enemy of the main cast wasn’t my goal.

Due to my efforts I was already a omniglot at the age of 7, and this, while opening doors of opportunities for me, also convinced my parents of my talent in diplomacy…

Well, it is meaningless to cry over spilt water. And if I didn’t use my brain capacity to learn languages at a young age, it would be hard to learn later. Convincing myself like that, I proceeded towards Etiquette class…

    +++

In Etiquette Class, the stern expression of Viscount of Grimland, Dorothy Grimy greeted me. Even though she was a diplomat stationed in Elvenheim to build on relations with elves, she was commanded to return back, simply for teaching me. Today, she was accompanied by a 8 year old girl with long blonde hair, clad in a plain white petticoat and frock.

“Since you have successfully understood the basic noble etiquettes, we can finally begin something advanced. Today, you are going to learn dancing! Since you will be needing a partner, I have brought my daughter, Briget along! Both of you, greet each other!”

“Hello Briget, I am Wilfred Windshire, the crown prince of this Kingdom. Nice to meet a lovely lady for you!” I quickly took the initiative to greet her before holding my hand out for a handshake. Pulling her hand up, I planted a gentle kiss on the back of her hand.

She blushed as she withdrew her hand. With her face red from embarrassment, she hastily greeted me as well.

I examined her blushing face with curiosity. Briget Grimy had the unofficial title of Ero-queen. While she was extremely polite, stern and diplomatic due to her mother’s influence, she was also the owner of the biggest pair of tits in the game. This certainly made her H-scenes the most famous.

Unfortunately, she had next to zero talent in physical or magical battle skills. So I wasn’t really planning on having her join my party. But I wouldn’t mind cultivating a childhood friend relationship with her. In any case, spending 8 years with zero interaction with peers was a bad idea for my mental health!

Even though she was currently flat as a washboard, being a childhood friend as her ‘growth’ would kick in would be fun! The chances to tease her….!?

“Briget, what did I tell you about your shyness? You must quickly conquer it or it will become a weakness! And Prince Wilfred, while you will certainly become a ladykiller in the future, please refrain from seducing a daughter in front of her mother!” On hearing her mother’s attempt at humor, Briget’s face turned into a deeper shade of red. On the contrary, I simply laughed while patting the girl to cheer her up.

“Now, we shouldn’t tarry anymore! Prince, gently wrap your left arm around Briget and press her to your chest. Now, clasp your remaining arm and Bridget’s arm together. Now, on the rhythm of 1-2-3, step forward with the right foot…” On her command, we slowly began dancing the waltz.

Briget was quite awkward in the beginning, but my confidence and her mother’s instructions meant that she improved quickly as well. Two hours passed as we danced joyfully. Finally, when we both were exhausted from the whirling, the lesson ended.

“Prince, I will be busy for the next two weeks. After that, our lessons will have to be shortened to thrice a week. Since further lessons will consist of dancing, I will bring Briget along. Are you fine with that?” Dorothy Grimy said these words with her trademark stern tone.

Hearing her words, I secretly rejoiced, but outwardly maintained a saddened expression, “While I understand Madam’s duties as a Viscount are intruding into your teaching time, I still hope we could maintain classes like usual. I hope Madam’s duties are quickly finished so that I may learn more from you…”

Hearing my word, the woman simply nodded, as if she saw through my insincerity but appreciated my effort in concealing it. “Briget, let’s return…”

Just then, I decided to interrupt. “Forgive me, but would you mind eating lunch together with my family? Since you are going to be away for a long time, you will have to report my progress to my parents. If that is so, that we might as well eat together!”

“That’s a good idea, I suppose. It has been a while since my last lunch with the King…” Saying this, she walked towards the Royal Throne Hall.

Holding hands together, Briget and I followed.

    Chapter 2

In the Dining Hall, five people were elegantly dining together. With the King and Queen sitting side-by-side, the other side of the table was occupied by me, Briget and her mother.

“So, our son has been performing well in etiquette?” My mother asked.

“Your Majesty, your son is phenomenal! I never thought that I could teach a child basic etiquette so quickly! My own daughter fumbles in basic etiquette sometimes, but not he!” Dorothy freely praised me. Meanwhile, Briget became dejected.

“Don’t worry, she is just praising me. If your etiquette wasn’t up to standard, why would she bring you to dance with me?” With my softly worded praise, Briget perked up.

“While my son has exceptional etiquette, he lacks in peers of his age. Since he is the only Crown Prince of our Kingdom, we could not allow him to interact with other noble bloodlines for his safety. Schemes to manipulate a prince and usurp the Kingdom are many.” As he said this, the King could not help but pity his son. While he had been provided with top-tier tutors, they certainly could not act as his friends. Finally, his son sought companionship with Palace Guard, even joining their daily training as equals!

As a master of noble etiquette, Dorothy understood her King’s implication. “Of course, my dear Briget also has similar problems. Due to my rank of nobility, I have not dared to let Briget go out of the manor, lest she be manipulated by spell or potion. While her interest in etiquette and literature has kept her busy, it is certainly no replacement for friends.”

“It seems that we both are of like minds! Dorothy, how about you leave your daughter in the Royal Palace? She certainly would be safe here, and can avail top-tier tutors for her education as well! More importantly, she can have a friend in my son!” Casually, the King offered Briget a chance to live in the Royal Palace!

“So, what do you think, Briget? Do you want to stay here?”, Dorothy asked her daughter.

At her mother’s question, Briget numbly nodded.

“So it is settled then! Wilfred, instead of the hassle of searching for a new room for Briget, why don’t you let her live in your room?” Slyly, the Queen asked me.

“I certainly don’t mind. How about it, Briget?” While I didn’t understand why my mother wanted us sleeping in the same room, I didn’t really care. As for Briget, she nodded with a crimson hued face.

“Okay, then! Ah, we should really start eating or the food might get cold!” After my mother pointed this out, everyone suddenly remembered about the dinner and attacked it… with elegant graceful etiquette.

    +++

“Sleep well, little princess.” With these words, I spread a blanket over the sleeping Briget before leaving the room. After lunch, Briget was exhausted and was on the verge of falling asleep. After carrying her to bed and tucking her in, I left for the library.

The library had many rare books in all sorts of languages. While I had spent much time neatly arranging and hiding the books useful to me and searching for other books hidden by others, I wasn’t here for more arcane knowledge. Walking to the shelf of Elven books, I took out a leather diary. The letters inscribed on it were similar yet different from the Elven alphabet. A reader of this language would be hard to find in this world, after all it was Japanese Kanji!

In this book, world-building knowledge of this Galge was written down. Most of the information was about Wilfred Windshire, the pitiful villain who got trounced by the protagonist at every turn. In other words, me.

Before the game began, he wanted to become a mage, but did not have any magic affinities. So, he unwillingly trained to become a knight. In truth, he had an extreme affinity for darkness, but he did not train in it because…

…Actually, there was no real reason behind his magic affinity of ‘Darkness’ staying unused. Training in dark magic was not forbidden, but there were a low amount of dark-attribute mages due to rare affinity. Only light-attribute mages were rarer.

Okay, ignoring the plothole of his dark-attribute magic, let us move on to the academy. In the academy, he fell in love with the Saintess, the light-attribute mage who was a commoner, Atla. But she did not like him and inadvertently summoned the protagonist, a high schooler from another world. Like a true erogame protagonist, he set out seducing all the ladies and pissed off Wilfred even more.

Unfortunately due to his low strength as a Knight and zero connections with mightier students, Wilfred was a ineffectual butt-monkey for the players to laugh at. In the end of the VN, he would get possessed by a demon, kidnap the protag’s favorite heroine and die in a epic battle. Of course, the story ended there and the fate of Windshire Kingdom was not elaborated.

So, the tragic tale of the ineffectual villain ends like this. I certainly didn’t have any plans to replay the game like this. All my efforts to reverse this fate began when I revealed my skill in languages and mastered the prominent languages of the country. With this as the foundation, I could befriend and make connections with various important game characters.

If the protagonist was fated to be summoned, these connections would help me stay untouched. Of course, this was only the final option.

The best outcome would be manipulating circumstances so that the Saintess Atla would never summon him!

After reading through the book, I placed it back in the shelf. Even though I had pretty much memorized its contents, I still made a habit of reading through the book every now and then.

The next book was carefully hidden behind a couple of thick tomes. It was a black book that emitted dark magic. Immediately flipped the cover, I opened the front page.

Only a single instruction was penned on it:

For thee to be worthy of opening the next page, awaken the magic suppressed within thou before the age of 9. Stimulate the body to awaken the spirit of darkness within thou.

For these six months, I have been training like a madman, but my magic affinity hasn’t awakened yet. And now after reading this, I faintly realized something…

This book was emitting dark magic, wasn’t it? If I wanted dark magic to awaken within my body with this book as the catalyst, taping the book to my skin wouldn’t be a bad idea…

If this was a light magic grimoire, taping it to my body would painfully burn my skin. However, for an unawakened dark magician, the energy of the grimoire would serve to replenish my strength!

Picking up the book, I sneaked it away from the library. Returning to my room with the sleeping Briget, I scrambled through my cupboard for duct tape. This duct tape was clearly comparable to modern industry-grade duct tape, but since this was a eroero-game with swimsuits and panties, some anomalies were permitted! After sensing that the magic emitted from the leather cover of the book, I opened the first page of the book, reversed it so that the leather cover would spread out and taped to book on my bare chest!

I didn’t feel any changes, but I was an unawakened mage in the first place, so I didn’t expect anything either. I put on my clothes, covering the book taped on my body. The book had been taped in such a way that it would not get in the way of physical movements.

Even though the soldiers would only practice their drill in the mornings, a training room was reserved for the more diligent. Bashing up some dummies with a wooden blade would be excellent exercise… Thinking this, I walked towards the ground of my awakening.

    Found some typos

"sword of magic and swords" should be "world of magic and swords"

Also unsure but should "rhyme of 1-2-3" be replaced with "rhythm?"

Cool story so far! Looking forwards to how it develops!

’Twas a strong transition from the intro to the other world, nicely done.

I’m generally not a fan of “etiquette classes” in stories, but you’re doing it pretty well.

Take out the "me," from, “Most of the information was about me, Wilfred Windshire, the pitiful villain who got trounced by the protagonist at every turn. In other words, me.”

The palace seems empty, as if there are only a few people living and working there. Give it more life, would you?

It's pretty ridiculous for the heir to be kept from society because his parents are afraid of him being influenced: A prince wouldn't learn how to interact with the people he'll have to interact with all his life, and wouldn't form connections with his generation of nobility, despite it being extremely important for him to do so. The explanation gives him cause to make the friends he does at the academy, and keeps the story from getting jumbled with annoying noble-aristocrat interactions, but please either make the reason better, or change the story a bit.

Looking forward to seeing where you take the story.

    Chapter 3

In a solitary training room, I was striking a straw dummy with my wooden sword.

My sword struck the straw dummy with pause, causing pounding sounds to be heard. It had been two hours since my training began, and exhaustion hadn’t struck yet. The grimoire was unceasingly replenishing my strength.

This unnatural stamina originating from the grimoire gave me a strange feeling of invincibility. I was a shadow that would swallow all, the shadow which was cast from light…

The moment these emotions appeared, I knew I was only a single step away from awakening! Taking I deep breath, I began smashing the dummy with renewed strength, allowing the magic of grimoire to infuse within my body…

Suddenly, pitch-black darkness descended in the room and a searing heat filled the room as well! A strange shadow seemed to cover all the surroundings while power seemed to fill every pore of my body. This was a natural phenomenon that would occur due to the awakening of magic. The magic power that had accumulated within the body would burst out, causing phenomena.

The best way to handle this was to force out all the mana within the body in the form of spells!

By the way, from the darkness and searing heat, it seemed that I had awakened dual-affinities of darkness and fire. While fire affinity was not mentioned in the game, it was nevertheless a great addition to my spell repertoire!

Anyway, now that my magic has awakened, it is time to test it! “Oh darkness, gather and compress into bullets! Shadow Bullets!” With the incantation chanted, all the mana within my body was compressed into bullets. I unceasingly cast bullets of congealed darkness, spraying them towards the ground!

Finally, all the mana within me was exhausted. The darkness surrounded me disappeared and I was alone in a room with a broken wooden sword and a burnt straw dummy. As for the damage caused by the Shadow Bullets, it was unnoticeable. This castle was protected by an enchantment specifically cast to repel dark magic!

Anyway, I shrugged off my exhaustion and began cleaning up. While it was lucky for there to be no one around witnessing my awakening, this destruction would not stay unnoticed for long!

    +++

After cleaning up, it was already around 5 PM. Returning to my room, I found the new tenant still sleeping. After waking her up, I showed her to the washroom and offered her some biscuits for a snack.

“S-Sorry! I usually never sleep for this long, so I didn’t think…” With a red blush, Briget was apologizing for her oversleeping.

“You don’t have to worry, it’s okay! Honestly, I never expected you to sleep soundly like this. After all, while sleeping in another house, people usually cannot adjust to their new surroundings and have trouble sleeping. Seeing you sleep like this is good news!” Hearing my words, Briget immediately calmed down and began smiling. Maybe this was a side-effect of being in an eroge, but I could sweet talk girls with ease in this life!

Like this, me and Briget ate some biscuits as a evening snack. After this, she looked questioningly at me. “So what do we do now?”

Well, I had already thought about this earlier. “Let’s play a game of hide and seek. You seek, I’ll hide. If you can’t find me in an hour, I’ll win. So close your eyes for ten counts…”

As Briget obediently closed her eyes, I walked out of the room to find a hiding place. Ten breaths later, our little game began.

    +++

“I didn’t expect you to get a maid to help find me.” After being found by Briget, I complained about my loss.

“You didn’t say anything about that. I won, fair and square!” Of course, Briget was not willing to admit her foul play.

Meanwhile, the maid that had searched me out bowed to us and returned to her job.

“Yeah, okay. You win. Was it fun?” I interrupted the budding argument by acknowledging her victory.

“…Yes, it was amazing! This is such a nice castle. I asked every palace guard and maid for your location, but none of them saw you. Finally, a maid helped me out.” As she happily narrated her journey, we went to the library.

“I am borrowing a few works of literature. What are you taking with you?” Briget said as she picked up some romance novels.

I showed her books on magic theories, magic arrays and a beginner spell collection for fire and darkness. “Just trying to get a heads-up on magic theory. Even though I have not awakened yet, it is never too early to start learning about magic.”

“It sucks that the Awakening Ceremony only takes place at the age of 12! By the way, which elements do you wish to awaken? I want fire!” Even though Briget awakened the fire element, her magic reserves and talent was quite low. Fortunately, her magic control was extremely high, and she would become an alchemist in the game story!

“While Fire is good, I would prefer Darkness. Of course, a dual awakening would be the best!” As I said this, Briget gave a catlike smile.

    “Don’t be too greedy~!”

After walking Briget to my room, I left, stating that I was going to a quiet room for magic calculations.

I wasn’t lying, the room I found myself in was extremely quiet. The aura of dark magic had seeped into every tile on the floor. This room was the core of the magic formation protecting the castle. Following the principle of reverse polarities, all the darkness mana had gathered in this room.

This was undoubtedly the best training area for dark magic.

This room was a place I found while exploring the castle before. I had kept this room’s location as a secret, but I did bring some lamps to illuminate it. Even after turning them on, the sensation of being swallowed by shadows did not cease.

First thing, I immediately stripped myself. The duct tape used to bind the grimoire was loose and the book had disappeared. At that moment, I suddenly found out that a green jeweled gold ring appeared on my ring finger!

With a single thought, magical energy entered the ring, transforming it into a grimoire! Picking it up, I realized that the first page had turned black. But I could now open the second page.

Four Rank 1 beginner spells were exquisitely explained in that one page. At the end, an instruction was left, to master the four spells to the pinnacle!

Phantom Blade – Short-range Attack Spell

Shadow Bullets – Long-range Attack Spell

Night Veil – Illusionary Hiding Spell

    Darkwalking – Movement Boosting Spell

Altogether, they were a comprehensive set of battle spells. If trained to the optimum level, they could be equals to Rank 2 spells!

In the gloomy room lit by lamps, the amateur magus began his training.

    +++

Unexpectedly, ten months passed since my awakening. In this period of time, many incidents happened. For one, I got closer to Briget. Another thing was that I mastered various dances and completed my Etiquette training. Now I was learning Diplomacy, in preparation for social debut on my arriving 8th birthday.

“Prince, your sword training is getting better everyday. Are you sure that you want to stick with a greatsword? I think a long sword would suit you better.” The burly captain complemented me as I finished today’s morning training. As expected, my awakening had the side-effect of raising my strength and stamina.

Thus, I was finally sporting a thick heavy armor on myself like rest of the knights. A heavy greatsword laid in my hands. The greatsword was an inelegant weapon, similar to a hunk of metal. It was Wilfred Wilshire’s preferred weapon. After some research, I concluded that it would be the best for me as well.

“Prince, are you prepared for your birthday debut tomorrow? It is going to be an unprecedented event; I hear that Elven, Beast, Barbarian, Dwarf and Demon races are all sending their elites for greeting you. You are the only Crown Prince of the Kingdom and have taken several teachers from these races and mastered their languages, so they feel the need to give you a bit of face!” The Captain’s pride in me was visible in his words.

Tomorrow, my 8th birthday, would be a momentous occasion. This one event would put me contact with the top-tier heroines, so I had spent months making preparations for this ceremony! All my preparations would certainly not be wasted!

    +++

“Wilfred, you can calm down for now. Your preparations are perfect, so there is no need to practice so hard right now!” Briget couldn’t help but admire the boy strenuously practicing his speech. Since the past 6 months, she witnessed him recite his speech for atleast an hour. Other than his morning training and his nightly studies in his secret quiet room, he always practiced his speech for the rest of the time!

The speech was quite small, but its difficulty came because it would be addressed in 5 more languages! Since the Elven, Beast, Barbarian, Dwarf and Demon races were sending emissaries, I would have to reciprocate by adding a personal touch to his speech! After poring over several works in the library, the first form of the speech was created. It was perfected by taking advice from Briget’s mother, my parents- the Royal Couple and several tutors! Even the Knight Captain was consulted!

“…You’re right, I suppose. All I can do is wait for tomorrow…” Saying this, I allowed myself to relax.

“…I am going for studying.” Picking up some books, I once again went for my daily magic training.

    +++

“Oh shadows, gather and compress into bullets! Shadow Bullets!”

“Oh phantoms, gather on my blade to form an edge that cuts through light! Phantom Blade!”

“Oh holy night, hide me in your embrace! Night Veil!”

“Oh Darkness, turn my gait into a fathomless mystery! Darkwalking!”

In the room filled with darkness energy, I continuously cast 4 spells in succession.

Before, I could only follow the chanting and let the mana channel according to its will. That was the absolute worst level of spell mastery, Absolute Novice.

But now, the incantations and mana channeling of these spells are under my complete grasp. But this is only the third step in spell mastery, Base Comprehension.

The second step is shortening the chant until it is only a single syllable, Minimize Incant.

The third step is the complete removal of vocal components, Chantless Cast.

The four skill proficiency levels denoting mastery of magic: Absolute Novice, Base Comprehension, Minimize Incant and Chantless Cast. This was the basic of the basics for apprentice mages.

For me to gain the ability to chantlessly cast these four spells will take me around 3 years. This is only an estimation from the ancient magic books I scanned for knowledge, so my talent and comprehension could be greater or lesser.

If I add my similar desire to master the Rank 1 Fire Spells, it would take 4 more years. So, by the age of 15, when I would be eligible to attend magic academy, I would have achieved complete mastery of Fire and Darkness Rank 1 spell arts.

In this eroge, the leveling system is based on ‘Classes’. No, not high-school classes like Algebra, Biology and Particle Physics but videogame job classes like Cleric, Knight and Mage.

There are two BASE classes: Knight & Magus. They have certain prefixes and suffixes that increase the actual number of classes to 108 (eg. Guardian Knight or Mage Lord) but their basis comes from 2.

My current class could be Darkfire Magus or something even more chuuni, but that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that there are 7 levels of advancement for every class. Every level increases stats and grants some spells.

So, if a Stat Screen for me had to be displayed, it would be:

    [Name]

    Wilfred Windshire

    [Class]

    Darkfire Magus

    [Level]

    Lv.1 Mage Apprentice

    [Stats]

    STR: 13

    VIT: 8

    INT: 18

    SPD: 12

    [Spell Mastery]

Dark: 5 (Novice), 4 (Base Comprehension)

Fire: 8 (Novice), 2 (Base Comprehension)

As for spell mastery, that is my repertoire of Rank 1 spells I have scoured from the library. Relying on the 4 base spells is good, but I might as well master more in the time I have, right?

I suppose this would be my current status in the game. In simpler words, ‘gets trashed by a mid-BOSS’.

While it is still pitifully week, I am still a day from turning 8, having spent only 9 months since my awakening, so there it goes.

Well, this mob-level character is going to meet with BOSS-level leaders tomorrow and all I have to rely on is Speech Proficiency. Tomorrow’s ceremony will have high consequences for my academy life. Getting some affection points from the princess heroines is the goal!

    Chapter 4

Facing a crowd of near 50 noble personages here to listen to my speech, I calmly scanned them, checking out the prominent characters. From the eroge, three heroines were present: Dwarf Princess Milemi, Elven Princess Eorin and Demon Princess Abraxia. The Barbarian Prince, Rothgar and the Beastman Prince Thunderleon were also present.

Of course, other less prominent characters were also present, necessitating me to court favor with them, but they were of less importance.

Facing the elite and the royalty of the world, I faced them with confidence. If it were my previous life, I would certainly have cowered under their combined pressure, but now…

“To you all who have left their important duties to make time for my debut into the world, I offer my sincere thanks to you! I, Wilfred Windshire, the Crown Prince of Windshire Kingdom…”

    +++

The dwarf princess Milemi had accompanied an courtier to this human prince’s debut. She watched him with an inscrutable expression on her face, trying to comprehend his speech with the knowledge of some of the words she had learnt. His voice was soft yet could be clearly heard, his diction flawless. Of course, all this was useless in keeping her attention as the most important thing, comprehension was missing. Thus she was idly looking around, distracted.

And just then, the familiar sound of her Dwarven tongue resounded. Surprised, she stopped looking around, concentrating only on the speaker. The soft voice had turned louder and harder, almost having a drunken edge!

“I would like to thank the citizens of the Dwarven Nation for…”

She concentrated for the entire speech. The delivery of the speech was amazing but there were a few simple pronunciation mistakes made. Nevertheless, it was a splendid speech for a human.

“I’ll have to remind him of his mistakes when we have a chance to get closer…” Of course, as the Dwarven Princess, he would have to greet her.

After his speech in Dwarven ended, unexpectedly the boy continued to give speeches in language of the Elves, Barbarians, Beastmen and Demons as well! This successfully drew the attention of Elven Princess Eorin and Demon Princess Abraxia. The Barbarian Prince, Rothgar and the Beastman Prince Thunderleon saw the young human boy and acknowledged him in their hearts.

    +++

After my Dwarven speech, I had to recite a speech in the language of the Elves, Barbarians, Beastmen and Demons as well. It honestly got my throat dry, and I nearly forgot some of the mistakes in my speech, but I managed to pull through.

Intentional mistakes, of course intentional mistakes had to be made in my speech! In the end, I was still a 8 year old child! For normal children of my age, simply not fainting before the audience was praiseworthy, not to speak of giving speeches before such a noteworthy crowd! More importantly, these mistakes would give the young guests a chance to correct me! I could use this to get closer to them!

Now, after the speech came the ball. As the protagonist of the day, of course I had to dance first! As we had decided earlier, Briget came up to me, adorned in a beautiful white gown, having the grace of a swan. I had dressed in black to give a contrasting impression.

I stretched my hand out for her and she grasped it. My other hand wrapped around her waist and be began waltzing. Just like a year before when we first met.

But our skill in dancing had clearly risen. For the past 3 months, we regularly practiced our waltz in this hall everyday, all for this one day.

After our dance ended, various other noble ladies asked for a dance. Being a gentleman, I obliged them all.

“Ah, you must be Cynthia of the Hallbrook Dukedom? Shall we dance?”

“Young Revy of Raileigh County! Let’s enjoy a dance together!”

In the end, all the noble children who attended his debut were allowed a dance together with me. I was of a taller height and they were comparatively less skilled, so I had to carry them along. But of course, of the five people who I Wanted to meet, none came up to me…

    …Until one did.

The Demon Princess Abraxia was clad in a shadowy black kimono with electric yellow stripes, matching her long black hair. On her back was a long ebonywood staff with countless lightning runes engraved on it. As she was a year older than me, she had already awakened her magic affinity. Similar to the game, she seemed to have awakened the lightning affinity.

“Prince Wilfred of the Windshire Kingdom, this is the first time we meet. My name is Abraxia Demonica, the future Queen of the Demon Kingdom.” There was a pride in her words, as she proclaimed herself as the one who would control all demonkind in the future.

“Nice to meet you. While this is my first time meeting you, I have heard many things about you from my tutor who taught me the Demon language, Stewart Law. How is he doing now?”

“Ah, after he taught you, he was promoted as a Courtier. He will feel nice to know that you still think about him.”

“Is that so…? I am glad.” Like this, we continued to talk until we reached the topic of my mistake.

“So, the pronunciation of the word is ‘Lie-wez-haw’ not ‘Lee-wes-hau’. It is a common mistake, but as a prince you must make all efforts to stand above the commoners.” Abraxia talks in a imperious tone as I nod. But I still don’t get it, what is the relation between good pronunciation and imperial dignity?

“’Lie-wez-haw’… I think I got it. Thank you, Abraxia.” As I thank her, she makes a awkward expression, thinking about the numerous mistakes in my speech she would have to point out. “…Were there any more mistakes?”

She has a relieved expression on her face as she speaks, “Forgive me, but…”

…In the end, apart from my intentional mistakes, three additional mistakes were pointed out.

“It seems like I will have to brush up on Demon literature and practice my speech. I will have to thank you for your guidance, Princess Abraxia!” As I say this, Abraxia’s face is slightly fallen. She ignored all basics of diplomacy and blatantly pointed out my mistakes, so it wouldn’t be unnatural for me to be keeping up a smiling face and hold deep resentment for her inside.

“Princess, would you accompany me for a dance? While my understanding of your language might not compare, I am pretty skilled at foxtrot!” I hold my hand out and Abraxia gratefully grasps it.

“Let’s see how you dance!” As she says this, a jazzy soundtrack replaces the waltz song. We start a smooth dance as we dance around the ballroom. There is a subtle rise and fall in our movements as I am easily drawn into her pace. As we dance through the ballroom, our long steps catch the attention of all the guests.

Unlike the noble children who I waltzed with earlier, Abraxia is quite experienced in dancing. She is taller than girls of her age, so we are nearly neck to neck in height.

As we dance together, I am assailed by a feeling that I can’t keep up. This feeling keeps on rising as we both cover the ballroom with long walking movements. Finally, the jazz song stops playing and Abraxia performs an elegant twirl and fall before rising up and moving beside me. The foxtrot dance comes to an end with this.

“It seems you spoke the truth about your dancing skills. Truly flawless.”She complements me as the audience claps. As our foxtrot swept through the ballroom, all the other dancers had to step aside.

“If I am flawless, you must be peerless! Truly a great dancer, I certainly can’t compare!” Hearing this, she only gently laughed before staring at a white haired girl in the crowd with a smug smile, before returning to her Demon attendants.

As for the girl she smirked at, she was of course, Eorin, the Princess of Elves. Elves and demons have traditionally been rivals, with them being savants at opposing types of magic, focusing on nature and destruction respectively.

This elf princess was wearing a white blouse and skirt combo, matching with her hair color and looking like a pure maiden. She stomped up to me and introduced herself. “ Crown Prince Wilfred Windshire, I am Eorin, the princess of Elves.” Elves did not follow the custom of a surname for some reason. “While I truly appreciated your efforts in presenting speech in my mother-tongue, you made a few mistakes. To begin with, the intonation…” Girl, did no one teach you diplomacy?! I couldn’t help but scream this in my mind as she relentlessly pulled out all my mistakes in the speech and laid them bare.

“F-forgive me, I will certainly research the Elven literature more before daring to make another speech in it…” I nearly cried as I apologized.

But this dense princess did not notice this as she held out her hand for me, “It is good to acknowledge your flaws! Now, shall I interest you in a waltz dance?”

At this moment, I, relatively confident in my skill in the waltz eagerly accepted. Unfortunately, this girl probably took a speed boosting potion as she danced like a speed demon, and I almost couldn’t keep up. When she finally ended the dance, I stabilized myself before bowing to her.

“Ahaha, your skill in waltzing is certainly better than your Elven speech! But you stll have room to improve! Keep it up!” I nearly vomited out of motion sickness but somehow carried polite conversation with her before she left. When our conversation ended, Abraxia winked at me, as if she knew this would happen. I have a wry smile before going for a drink of water.

After my stomach settled a bit, I idly watched the dancers. It wouldn’t be long before the lunch ceremony would begin.

Just then, a red haired loli came beside me. She was clad in golden robes and looked like a 5 year old who had wandered into my debut by mistake. “Wilfred Windshire, the Future King who would lead the human race… my name is Dwarka Milemi, nice to meet you.” The Dwarves followed a similar naming style to my previous life language, Japanese where the surname was said before the personal name.

Like before, the little loli carefully enumerated the flaws in my speech as I seriously heard them out. “Um, sorry if I was too blunt. That said, your speech was still very amazing!” As she said this, I almost hugged her tightly and began crying. This little girl’s encouragement was a godsend after the Elven Princess mercilessly tore me down!

“…No it’s alright, I’ll certainly improve for my next speech. Your understanding of the language is very high!” I couldn’t help but say this.

Hearing this, she scowled, “Don’t patronize me! This is my mother-tongue, it would be a surprise if I weren’t good at it!”

“I didn’t mean that! In reality, the Dwarven language was the most difficult for me to learn. The vocals…” I hurriedly consoled her until her scowl disappeared.

But then, she looked self-consciously at herself before muttering, “…Everyone looks down on me due to my height. You aren’t going to ask me to dance either, are you?”

    “That’s right, I won’t.”

As I said this, the little girl’s face congealed as she spoke. “…You are too mean. You didn’t have to be so blatant…”

At that moment, I picked her up and placed her on my shoulder. She was surprisingly heavy. “Why don’t you look at the dance right now?”

On the ballroom, only two figures were dancing. They were the King and Queen of this country, my parents.

“The dance of the Royal Couple means that the end of ceremony has come. At this point, I, a prince, would not upstage his parents, right?”

As I said this, the little girl nodded. We watched my parents dance spellbound. After their dance ended, my debut had ended as well. It would be time for the after-ceremony lunch soon.

    +++

My debut ended successfully. After all, I got close enough to speak with and even dance with two of the princesses and successfully obtained favorable impressions in their hearts. As for the two princes, I did communicate with them after the ceremony. In the end, I promised to send them letters and keep in contact, and our correspondence ended this way.

Of course, now that these nobles had given me the courtesy of arriving at my debut, I would have to extend the same courtesy for them. The next 7 years until the Magic Academy begins are going to be filled with frequent travel…

:coffee: Loose sentences. Cut out the superfluous words.
-causing pounding sounds to be heard (unnecessarily passive; we hear sounds)
-Taking I deep breath → taking a deep breath
-magic of grimoire to infuse within my body → grimoire’s magic to infuse my body
-darkness descended in the room and a searing heat filled the room as well → darkness descended the room while a searing heat filled it
    -causing phenomena (unspecific and repetitious)
    Etc.
-Facing a crowd of near 50 noble personages here to listen to my speech, I calmly scanned them → I scanned the nearly 50 noble personages that were waiting for my speech

Good that you had her bring up palace maids and guards, but it’d be better to show them. Simply have the prince pass one occasionally or notice one at work while moving through the castle.

I love the steps of spell mastery. You misnumber them though. But I regret that he'll already have moved through all the steps by the time he battles. Well, it is slice of life.

Don't fixate on "literature." Have him read a race's fairy tales to learn its language, make him try to listen in on a conversation between dwarven smiths. Have some fun with it, and let others have fun at his expense.

The dances are pretty funny~ Can you improve the humor further?

    Chapter 5

The sounds of unrefined metal being purified by pounding resounded in the Royal Forge. In this place, a young boy was huffing and puffing as he relentlessly struck the heated metal on the anvil with the hammer. Finally, the purification process completed and the impure metal was condensed into a metal ingot, an item that could be used for forging a proper weapon.

“Perfectly done, young master! We have covered metal heating and ingot creation. From tomorrow, we will begin the most important process, actual forging. Well then, let’s consider this the end of your forging training!” Saying this, the bearded old man patted me on my back before chasing me out of the forging room.

It’s been 9 months since my birthday ceremony. Five days since that date, I requested the Forging Master of the Palace to teach me forging. That day, I confirmed my in-game knowledge of there being 5 levels in Sub-Class skills.

The old expert did not want to teach me at first, not because he doubted my talent, but because he was busy all day and had no time to teach me. He finally acquiesced when I told him that he could teach me in early mornings, between the time of 4:00-7:00.

He could only teach me LV 1 and Lv 2 forging, reasoning because I hadn’t awakened my magic yet. After my awakening, I could learn Lv 3 forging. If I awakened the affinity to Fire magic, I could learn Lv 4 forging. If I was fortunate enough to reach Lv 5 as a fire mage, I could train in Lv 5 forging techniques and complete the skill mastery.

In these months, in front of the Forging Master I have been training my blacksmithing skill, completing Lv.1 in it. But this skill is near-useless and can only forge pots, pans, kitchen knives and other mundane objects.

Normally, I would have trained my forging skills secretly, but I am facing an existence like a Forging Master, after all. If I show huge improvements, it will be caught in front of his hawk eyes.

“Anyway, proceeding step-by-step on the path of forging will lay a better foundation, won’t it?” Consoling himself by saying like this, he proceeded to his next destination.

In any case, I have learnt enough to successfully pass the [Event] today, so I don’t really mind.

Oh, you are asking about today’s event? Of course, it is the 9th birthday of Briget Grimy, and her awakening as a mage!

    +++

Of course, it is still 7 in the morning today, and our birthday girl is sleeping peacefully. After changing my fire-resistant clothes and equipment for my mini-knight armaments, I take the opportunity to look at her. Her blonde hair are growing pink streaks already, a sign of her fire magic. Her famous bust is fattening up as well.

‘Her affection points must be high enough to begin the H-scene after we enter the academy, right?’ I shake off the strange thoughts in my mind before going for some breakfast before my knight training.

My blacksmith training, my knight training and my two-elemental magic training… I have been obsessed with them for this long. Along with meditation having replaced sleep during the night, the only thing I am missing is battle!

    +++

The training session comes and goes, a completely mundane activity that doesn’t even need description. March with the knights in full armor, practice greatsword technique, horse-riding technique, sparring… After I am done, it’s 1:00 PM already. I quickly return to my room to change for lunch.

After I strip, a soft gasp is heard in the room… I recognize it as Briget’s voice.

“What happened, birthday girl? Surprised at this amazing body?” Pinpointing the voice’s source, I stare at the door that has opened.

Briget is wearing a white top with red highlights, with her gown being white as well. The set doesn’t seem to be too fashionable, but I don’t really care in the first place. As for me, my chiseled abdomen is fully exposed along with the streamlined muscles running over my body like rivers. An early magic awakening has brought with it an earlier toned body. No 8 year old should possess a body like this!

“W-Will! Don’t tease me and put on your clothes! Quickly!” Before, she would call be Prince or other honorifics, but now she calls me by a nickname instead. High affection points, indeed!

“I’ll take my time, so why don’t you turn around? Or better, leave the room? Of course, you can keep on looking if you want, but I’ll take repayment of the favor later. Of course, if you want to keep on looking, close the door behind you. We want to keep this a private show, right?” As I continue teasing her, she finally runs out of the room, shutting the door behind her.

I calmly continue changing my clothes.

    +++

In the dining room, my family, Briget and mother, Dorothy are sitting together. I quickly take my place beside Briget’s side. Seeing me, her face turns crimson before quickly calming down.

“Forgive me, I took too long changing my clothes.” As I say this, my mother simply nods.

“Lunch hasn’t been served yet, so you aren’t late.” My father says this as I settle into my seat. After that, it is some small talk.

“Dorothy, you have been hard at work as the Elven Ambassador. Is there any significant news from there?”

“Oh, an Alchemy competition takes place in 6 months. The princess has not awakened a fire affinity, so she cannot use anything but the very basics of it. Thus, the competition won’t be too exciting.” Dorothy says this with a shrug.

“Ah, Princess Eorin mentioned the same in her earlier letter. She even invited me to come visit. Unfortunately, we have a acute lack of alchemy geniuses, so I can’t go without reason.” As I say this with a regretful tone, Briget glances at me before turning aside quickly.

“If you truly wish to meet the princess, you can accompany me when I return to my post as a ambassador! ‘The prince is interested in interacting with Elves.’… this one sentence will ensure you a golden ticket as a guest with indefinite stay in Elvenheim! If you get closer to the princess, it will certainly help the diplomatic bonds of our kingdoms!” Dorothy Grimy says this with a serious expression. She certainly isn’t joking; I understand some facets about her from the years I have spent learning etiquette from her.

Briget has a scowl on her face. Seeing this, I immediately change topics, asking Briget about her birthday and her upcoming magic awakening. As we fall into a easy conversation, the lunch arrives.

Exhausted from my knight training, I eagerly dig into the food. All matters about Briget’s awakening are forgotten until later.

    +++

The sacred hour for the awakening of mana is 3’o clock. In the magic training corridors of the castle, the Lv5 Archmagus has set down a large magic circle. Arcane words that I can barely understand due to years poring over magic theory and intricate inscriptions are set down covering the area of more than 150 sq. ft. In the middle of the formation, Briget in sitting in meditation while seven magi training in the different elements are standing and chanting on seven points laid on the circumference of magic circle.

The ceremony begins when the seven points are lit up with magic energy from the mages occupying them. Slowly, the entire magic circle lights up. The seven different elements coverage into pure white radiance, bathing Briget with light. Finally, the energy with Briget’s body awakens as threadlike streaks of fire dance around her body, announcing the completion of awakening!

“Mana type: fire! Mana quantity: low! Potential as a mage: low!” After announcing this, the Archmage gives a disappointed sigh. His 7 subordinates rise from the magic circle and bow to the king. As my father sends them off, my attention is focused on Briget.

She unsurprisingly seems to be crushed by the Archmage’s announcement. Without physical strength and magic, rising up in this world is quite difficult after all.

I immediately run upto her and hand her a small box. “Here is your birthday gift!”

As she tries to open it immediately, I whisper to her, “Hey, don’t open it now. Let’s do it in our room, okay?” Nodding at my words, she puts it away in a handbag.

“You don’t have to worry about your magic. You are my daughter after all, your future is in diplomacy.” Briget slowly nods to her mother before grasping my hand and pulling me towards our room. I apologetically wink at my parents before following her.

    +++

In our bedroom, both of us are seated on the plush bed. It seems as if Briget is going to cry out, but she bravely keeps up a stiff expression. “While I was excited about awakening my magic, it appears that I am trash at it. Forgive me, Will, it seems I won’t be able to accompany you to the magic academy…”

“Don’t worry about that, first open my present!” After I say this, she takes out the box from her handbag and savagely tears it open. In front of her is a bronze vase with a beautiful picture of a flower engraved on it.

“A flower vase without flowers…?” Before she completes her words, I immediately order her.

“Keep your fingers on the engraving and pour your mana inside!” Almost instinctively, she obeys my order.

Magic energy pours into the bronze vase, but nothing seems to happen. Briget’s scowl widens as she desperately pours all energy into it, but there is simply no reaction. Finally, when almost the entirety of her mana runs out, a beautiful pink rose blossoms on the vase.

“Eh, it surprisingly has the same color as your hair…” After I say this, Briget absentmindedly grabs a lock of her hair. Amazingly, her blonde locks have turned pink!

As she strokes and plays with her hair, the mana dissipates from the jar and the flower turns into a shower of pink sparks. Mystified, she stares at the light show.

When the pink sparks disappear, I poke her out of her stupor. “Liked my present?”

In response, she only nods. Unexpectedly, she seems to have turned mute since her awakening.

“Ah, I gave you a present, so shouldn’t I get one as well? How about a kiss?” As I start joking around with her, she unexpectedly speaks again.

“---Close your eyes.” What, she really is going to kiss me? As such fanciful thoughts fill my mind, my eyes automatically close by themselves.

Suddenly, a soft sensation is transmitted on my cheek. I sneakily open my eyes to see the birthday girl’s lips pressed on my cheek. Seeing that my eyes are opened again, she fiercely blushes as she retreats. I only greet her with a smile.

“Nice kiss! Next time, kiss me on the lips please~.” As I say this, her blush gets even fiercer. She looks like she wants to run away from this room.

“Wait a moment. This is another gift for you… Well, I found it in the library, so it isn’t really a gift, but still it will definitely prove useful to you…” Saying this, I take out a book that I have carefully hidden on my shelf.

“An Introduction to the Alchemic Art?” As she repeats the name of the book, I flip to the first page.

“Fire Threads?” Seeing the book contain a magic art, she enthusiastically begins reading. In no time, the spell is memorized by her. She is a great literature enthusiast after all.

“If you use the spell to bind fire threads on the vase, the fire rose won’t disappear after a few moments!” I suppose this will be a great incentive to train for her.

Briget has already began meditation, having spent all her mana on creating the fire lotus earlier. Seeing her like this, I have a premonition that my trip to see Eorin won’t be too far.

A budding alchemist is sitting near me, after all.

Chapter 6: 5 Years Before the Academy (1/3)

“Will! So many books and I have to memorize them all? Becoming an alchemist is too hard!” Me and Briget were going through alchemy books in the library. Since herbal recipes were useless without the guidance of a trained alchemist teacher, we were forgoing that for now. Currently, the most important thing was memorizing the pictures and properties of herbs.

“Well, now that we have only 6 months left for the alchemy competition, we need to run on a fast-track. Other than training magical energy, the most important thing you can do is memorize these herbs.” Ignoring books with only descriptions and properties of herbs, only a few picture books remain. Among these books, those which pertain to Lv 1 Alchemists are laid before Briget.

“This is only the foundation. Father told me that the Imperial alchemist will return in a week at the least, so we need to buck up your theoretical foundations in that time.” As I firmly said this, I took the thinnest book among the stash and opened it for Briget.

Meanwhile, Briget simply gave a morose smile as she ignored the book. “You are trying so hard to train me for the Alchemy competition… Are you so eager to see that Elven princess Eorin? If you have fallen for her…” After saying these words, her face turned pale.

Her bitter thoughts which should have been stewing in her mind were revealed in her words! This ‘speaking of thoughts’ was a peculiar trait of Briget which along with her tits, made her a fan-favorite character.

“You… think I fell for… Eorin?! Hahahaha…heh heh heh. You are so funny, I never thought such a stupid misunderstanding could happen…” Hearing my laugh, Briget was relieved that nothing was going on with me and Eorin.

“But why do you speak about her so much? You regularly send letters to her as well…” As she questioned me, I answered.

“I maintain communication with all the young crown royalty who met me at my debut. As for Eorin, I ended up making a fool of myself before her in my debut, so I have to check all my correspondence with her, lest I end up losing more face.” Saying this, I gave a brief narration of our interaction in my birthday ceremony.

“…So, you want me to beat her in her home game in a field that her race specializes in, to save face for yourself?”

“If you manage to defeat all the young elf talents and seize victory, she certainly won’t be able to look down on me. Her arrogance will have to be held back as well. So for this young prince’s face, you have to win…” I said this in a slightly arrogant tone.

“Don’t worry, I’ll certainly win for you! You can count on me!” Saying this, she began to memorize the illustrations and descriptions of herbs earnestly.

    +++

The Imperial alchemist returned after a week, during which Briget memorized all the basic herbs that were applicable in Lv. 1 alchemy. Her teacher was in a good mood due to that, since they could now skip over theory and directly begin practice.

Like this, she slowly but steadily increased her skill in controlling flame to refine herbs. Increasing her spell proficiency and mana reserves when not training her alchemy, she step by step strode on a path of mastery.

In the game, Briget was a depressed low-talent fire mage who inherited only her mother’s skill in diplomacy. With her large breasts, low skill and her noble family’s influence, she was a girl who could be used to easily gain control over large authority. The protagonist discovered her talent in alchemy, encouraged her to practice and helped her reveal her true talent.

In her good ending, she would become a world famous alchemist who would silently support the protagonist. Though if she wasn’t romanced, she would be coerced to marry a random noble and bear 9 children, all while being silently oppressed until her death.

But now that I had prematurely revealed her talent, her depression would never occur and she would certainly rise far above her level in the game.

It was only a while remaining before three months would pass and my 9th birthday would arrive. This time, the ceremony would not be as large as my previous birthday. The most important event would be my awakening.

As Briget practiced her alchemy, my thoughts were solely devoted to taking advantage of the awakening ceremony to boost my mana reserves. 9 high-level mages converging their mana in a formation specially for me to absorb… Wouldn’t it be a shame if I didn’t take advantage of that?

Chapter 6: 5 Years Before the Academy (2/3)

While I browsed through books on mana theory and array techniques in preparation for my awakening, a surprising event happened.

I completely mastered the 4 four dark-magical spells written in the grimoire reaching Chantless Cast in all of them. This was a task assigned to me two years ago. Actually, if I hadn’t focused on mastering the basic spells of the fire element along with other spells, and solely focused on them, I might have been done with them in 6 months or so.

But I chose to master many techniques due to my game knowledge. Since the Lv 1 spells I could master was 15 and I had two elements, I had a total of 30 spells to master. Including my 4 darkness spells, I found 8 more Lv 1 darkness spells in the castle. While I spent more time finding out 4 darkness spells similar to the 4 Lv 1 spells in the grimoire, I found 8 more spells to complement them as well.

Currently, my [Spells] section would be like this:

    [Spell Mastery]

Dark: 4 (Chantless Cast), 8 (Base Comprehension)

Fire: 4 (Chantless Cast), 8 (Base Comprehension)

While I had reached only Base Comprehension in all other spells other than the four Dark spells I found in the grimoire and their Fire analogues, I will have more time for training in them now. Thus, having accomplished the mission given by the book, I opened it again, flipping through a series of black pages denoting the missions I have completed.

…Geez, this is book is just like a mission log in a RPG. I wonder what completing it fully will bring?

This was the third page right now. On it, an accurate diagram of the human body with countless series of lines denoting the mana-channels had been drawn. This seemed to be a extremely complicated spell involving circulation of mana through nearly all the mana channels of the body…!?

I carefully memorized the circulation pattern before looking at the actual spell. It surprisingly had only its name ‘Dark-Element Body’ written down. Apart from a few basic instructions and tips, it didn’t have any chants nor was this spell supposed to have any offensive effect!

This… was a revolutionary spell revolution pattern that could provide an elemental affinity to my body! It’s foundation was the four spells I mastered earlier, so it would be fairly easy to pick up. Also, understanding the method, I could also comprehend a mana circulation pattern for a Fire-Element Body!

After a few tests without committing myself to completing the mana cycle, I wrote down the circulation patterns for a Fire-Element Body. And spending an hour or so perplexing over it, I created a relatively flawless circulation technique.

For safety’s sake, I kept some potions in close range before beginning.

Now, I began revolving the energy in earnest…! I completed a revolution of the Dark-Element Body, siphoning half my mana pool before switching to the Fire-Element Body. After completing it, my pitiful mana pool was drained dry.

Hesitating, I opened the lid of a small bottle before pouring some drops on my tongue. This was a mana-potion and I had accumulated only ten such super-rare items. Anyway, it would be useless if I kept these since I would be given as many such potions as I would desire after my awakening! So, I had to decisively use them!

With these mana potions, I would pour all my time training in the Element Body arts, so that I could reach the level where I could freely switch between them on the day of my awakening. After this, I would use the pure mana for my awakening to forcefully awaken my two Element Bodies!

    +++

After burning through the mana potions in a month, I spent some time secretly scrounging for mana potions around the castle. In the end, I snatched some mana potions meant for the knights, giving me a good enough stash to spend the remaining months in quiet training.

Meanwhile, Briget was learning alchemy on a fast-track from the Royal Alchemist, so she didn’t have much time to meet. Nevertheless, she gained the habit to wrap me hugs while sleeping in the bed together. Her chest had began blossoming as well, so I had to thank my stars that my hormones hadn’t erupted yet.

Thus the three months passed like water. Now, today was my 9th birthday, the day of my awakening.

According to tradition, this would be a quiet day with no banquets. After accepting a gift of self-created mana replenishing pills from Briget, my parents told me that I would get a gift later.

Thus, I found myself facing a group of archmages alone at 3’o clock. My parents were not present for my awakening, and Briget had her alchemy lessons to worry about.

This time, the Kingdom’s Archmages themselves had decided to power the formation. Along with the Archmage that managed Briget’s awakening, two more elder Archmages were standing on two points of the formation. Fire, Earth and Water. The other mages occupied the remaining points on the 7 point formation.

Since there were archmages powering the formation, I would be supplied with an even greater amount of energy. The formation would channel the energy into my mana pool, giving me mana of greater quality and quantity!

“Young prince, are you ready!” The mages were all on their positions and the archmage reminded me. I simply nodded. With this, magical energy began circulating!

Pure white mana filled my body, trying to enter my mana pool. I sent a strand of Dark-elemental mana from my mana pool, guiding the stream of energy away from my mana pool while tainting it with dark-elemental energy. After the energy was fully converted into darkness mana, I began to circulate it though my channels, transforming my body with darkness!

After the stream of energy was exhausted, more pure energy entered my body. I switched circulation patterns from Darkness to Fire and pure fire energy revolved in my body. Thus, darkness and fire alternately streamed through my body, while the energy of the formation was swallowed!

The archmages looked dumbfounded at the small body which swallowed purified energy without the slightest signs of awakening. After almost all of a magus’s mana pool was drained, he immediately drank a mana potion while maintaining energy revolutions!

After nearly an hour, faint black and red energy emitted from the body of the prince. Seeing this, the archmage joyfully exclaimed, “So THIS was the reason why the mana disappeared like this… Everyone, the prince has dual-elements of fire and darkness! Pour all your mana or we might impact his potential!”

Hearing this, everyone increased the speed of circulation, increasing the amount of purified mana which was immediately swallowed! The colors of black and red seemed to slowly become brighter and more enhanced!

Hours passed by and countless mana potions were drunk, but the rate of energy being swallowed did not fall. Until finally…

The radiance of black and red mana multiplied in an instant, and the mana began solidifying! The process of mana solidification indicated the awakening of a magus. Previously, the fire threads solidified on Briget’s awakening, indicating her mediocre talent in magic. Having devoured a ridiculous amount of mana, the awakening should be many times greater, even being completely incomparable to her!

I did not disappoint their expectations. The energy surrounding me solidified to a hail of black and red feathers. They fell on me, bathing and nurturing my awakened Elemental Bodies. Seeing this, the mages were spell-tongued.

The complete awakening of my Elemental Bodies was a success. The process that would have needed years to complete was done in a couple of hours. Three, in exact!

While I wanted to open the grimoire at the earliest, I left the group of mages that aided me with thanks. After I asked the Fire Archmage and the Darkness Mage to advise and teach me later, I went off to a secluded room to have a look at the grimoire before meeting my parents and Briget.

The mystical book would certainly have more surprises ahead…

Chapter 6: 5 Years Before the Academy (3/3)

As expected, there was certainly a change in the grimoire. The blank pages of the book had changed.

The first page was as follows:

    [Name: Wilfred Windshire

Title: Crown Prince of the Windshire Kingdom

    Class: Shadowflare Overlord]

Wasn’t this the in-game status screen?! My new Class, Shadowflare Overlord sounded like a Demon King class, but it was pretty cool, I suppose… I continued to flip the page.

    [Primary Stats]

    HP: 2100/2100

    MP: 2500/2500

    SP: 750/750

    Agility: 15

    Vitality: 12

    [Secondary Stats]

    Charisma: 21

    Perception: 25

    Luck: 24

    [Elemental Affinity]

    [Affection Points]

    [Briget Grimy: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ]

    [No sub-skills]

Heavy Armor Equipment Technique: Lv. 5

    [No sub-skills]

Language (Speech + Written): Lv. MAX

[Human, Elven, Barbarian, Beastman, Dwarven, Demon…]

    Blacksmithing: Lv.2

    Shadowflare Body: Lv.1

Checking the entire screen, I realized that the entire status was exactly same as the game! Unexpectedly, even without training in hand-to-hand martial arts in this life, the karate I played around with in my previous life had also transferred over!

My magic formations skill hadn’t carried over, even though my research into them should have been at least Lv.3! That said, I hadn’t really used any formations, so this could be considered normal.

Also, instead of having a Dark Elemental Body and Fire Element Body, I had a Shadowflare Body instead… I suppose it was the name that gave me my class.

After checking around, I found out that there weren’t any other quests. It seemed that I could only recheck it after reaching the academy. In the meantime, I had some spells to master…

After this, I returned to meet my parents. It seemed like the time I spent checking the grimoire went unnoticed.

“Heh, heh… Not only do you have supernatural talent in diplomacy, you also possess true supernatural talent! A dual-element magus is harder to find that a Saintess of the Sacred Sword!” My father laughed as he praised me, thumping my back with his palms.

“But what your father says is the definite truth. With your talent, we could request an engagement with the Saintess, Atlasia! How about it, Wilfred? Would you like to marry her in the future? She is definitely cute!” Saying this, my mother passed me a photograph.

A golden haired girl wielding a sword emitting holy light. Seeing her radiant face, something similar to first love seemed to awaken within me. These were the feelings of the true Wilfred Windshire, the boy who pined after her, but was rebuffed every turn of the way.

I knew. The moment I would meet this girl for an engagement proposal, she would burst out with hatred for the darkness within me. The engagement had zero chance of being passed.

Mistaking my silence while thinking as hesitation, mother encouraged me, “Are you thinking about Briget? Marrying her as well won’t be difficult, after all you are the future king of this nation. So, how about it?”

“…I suppose I will meet her and see how it goes. As the Saintess, she has equal rights to reject the engagement if she does not want to be wed. Half the Saintesses have sworn oaths of virginity, so it probably won’t be successful.” As I said this, mother nodded.

“Everything depends on her opinion! But let us send the letter and ask for a meeting before anything else! My little boy is handsome and charismatic, so she will probably go crazy for you on your first meeting!” So, a letter to the Orthodoxy was sent.

While my parents were filled with the thoughts of the greater cooperation between state and religion if our engagement succeeded, I was going to make my first impression as a villain. Since our fate as enemies was inevitable due to the holy sword and her determination to be its vessel, I, the Shadowflare Overlord would weave the strings of our fates!

Chapter 7: Saintess of the Holy Sword and the Overlord of Shadowflame (1/3)

Only a week later, I was accompanying my mother, the Queen to the Orthodoxy Church. It was a Church that worshipped light magic and the first Hero of the Sacred Sword, Leytna rather than any deity. It didn’t have much impact in the game, apart from sending a few spellbooks to Saintess Atla .

Outside the church, various multicolored flowers and herbs were planted. The church seemed ancient and had the aura of having weathered numerous storms. Motes of golden light rose in the air around it, the excess power of the formations protecting it returning to nature.

Since the majority of citizens of the Windshire Kingdom followed it, they had social and political power. Due to their preservation of ancient spells, their force of Sacred Blades and the Sacred Artifact that could decimate cities, they had military power. As for economic powers, their long history had allowed them to amass a ridiculous amount of gold and treasures.

A beautiful golden haired woman clad in frugal nun robes greeted us on the church gate. She was certainly a person with high influence at the top-levels of the church, or she wouldn’t be sent to greet us.

“Divine Eye Serene, you didn’t have to receive us personally. Having the ruler of the Orthodoxy receive us is an honor.” Divine Eye, this was a title similar to a Pope. This woman was the true master of the Orthodoxy!

“Of course, if I don’t receive the King’s wife and son, who will?” After exchanging a few cursory greetings, she looked me in the eyes.

“A rare talent in learning languages, a trainee of the Royal Knights since the age of 7, a Rank 2 blacksmith certified by the Royal Blacksmith and now a dual-awakened fire-darkness mage… As they say, Heaven never gives only a single gift.” Unrelenting in her praise, I could only wave it off with words like “It was only luck”. Before the figure that controlled the Orthodoxy Church, how could I act arrogant?

As such, we went inside. The path inside was surrounded by statues of men and women, various heroic figures that saved the human race before. Some of them were clearly Asian, wearing modern clothes.

“You must be curious about that strangely dressed man, right? He is actually Yamada Kyousuke, a hero summoned from another world when humanity was in peril from the Abyssal Lord Zesewer. With his Spirit Sword Ervenhauer, he safeguarded the world with the Saintess Varyna by his side.” Seeing me glancing at the statue, the Divine Eye wearing nun-robes piped in with information. Thanks, but I knew that already…

“Saintess Varyna… the first Saintess who broke the oaths of chastity for the otherworldly hero… While he was sent back to his original world, she successfully gave birth to his child after that. The girl had tremendous magic affinity and gained affinity to the Holy Sword… unfortunately, the records I’ve read didn’t mention her name.”

“You are quite well informed. That event happened 300 years ago and concerned my late Master, the previous Pope. However, that event also got rid of the taboo of chastity vows.” As she said this, we went further inside the church, passing by stained glass and pews.

“That said, I can’t just hand over Atla to you. She is more interested in magic than matters of love. That said, the tome on the Light Elemental Body was quite effective in raising your place in her heart. Finding a lost tome in the Kingdom Library was a rare coincidence.” A few days ago, I began searching for books on Elemental Bodies in the Library. While I didn’t find anything other than basic information, a tome about the Light Elemental Body written in Demon language was a strange find.

I looked at the expression of the Saintess. It was quizzical, wanting to know how something precious like this was found out by a child like me. I simply smiled at her.

But just when I was planning to leave the question unanswered, I spied someone walking in our direction. The sword sheathed within the sheath could not be seen, yet it gave a holy impression. With hair braided in a bun, a distinct boyish impression was given off. The partial armor covering the chest and arms was laid over blue cloth. The only thing that betrayed her gender was the breezy gown that covered her armored feet.

The wielder of the Sacred Sword and the main heroine of this game Atlasia was an unapologetic Saber-clone.

Chapter 7: Saintess of the Holy Sword and the Overlord of Shadowflame (2/3)

“These steles depict the epic of the final war against the demons, with Yamada Kyousuke defeating Abyssal Lord Zesewer. They were created by Saintess Varyna, his lover. If you notice, these steles are not of stone but of a rare metal that absorbs Light Magic, allowing a skilled practitioner to engrave scenes and pictures with ease on them.”

Atlasia’s soft voice enters and exits my ears as I watch the beautiful engravings with discerning eyes. My fellow countryman, Yamada Kyousuke looks like a true hero of justice, with a flaming sword of vengeance and a beauty beside him. Meanwhile, the Demon Lord is a malevolent evil covered by shadows, an existence who opposes all good and justice!

…Even though this is just a biased retelling and I know the truth from my VN completion, I am still awed by the scenery. The entire battle scene of the confrontation between Demon Lord and Hero gives off a sacred, inviolable feeling. Of course, this isn’t the reason I am so obsessed with the steles.

Yamada Kyousuke uses a flame greatsword technique, and I am a greatsword wielder with a fire affinity. So, this technique is particularly suited to me.

Even though I was only an amateur in karate, I have some understanding of Yamada’s sword technique. The sword is called a odachi, a Japanese equivalent to a greatsword. Of course, it is incomparable to a greatsword both in weight and thickness, but it is still a sword used by those with great strength, a weapon used by infantry to split horses in a single blow.

In essence, the odachi is a greatsword. So, I should be able to learn the technique.

Atlasia quietly watches as I have immersed myself into the steles. It wouldn’t be uncommon for swordsmen to try and understand a great hero’s techniques, so she doesn’t attempt to interrupt me. From the resting stance to sudden motion, I carefully analyze all the stances, comparing them with the brief snippets from the VN.

In the VN, Yamada Kyousuke was a ‘past hero’ and his story was irrelevant to the present scenario. However, he comes up in flashbacks and is frequently mentioned, a ideal for the summoned protagonist to look up to.

Finally, I create a rudimentary understanding of the sword art. This technique is only the foundation and an incomplete version of his sword technique, but even so, it is still Yamada Kyousuke’s sword technique.

I want to draw my greatsword and practice, but it will probably alarm Atlasia. Later, then. As I stand up from my still position, Atlasia’s brows twitch.

“You aren’t the first person to be intrigued by the amazing sword art. Figured something out?” At her question, I simply refuse to answer. Taking it as if I failed, she stifles a grin and we proceed to explore the ancient church.

As we walk together, she unconsciously gets closer to me. There is a bit of reluctance and dismay on her face as we walk, obviously due to fear of being forced to marry an unknown stranger.

As we walk together, we make small talk but nothing related to marriage or engagement. I finally get annoyed at dancing around the subject and surprise her.

“…So, are you planning to stay a virgin or are you actually interested in marrying me? If you insist on retaining your purity, we can just call it off…” At my sudden question, Atlasia stands still with a crimson blush.

“While I desire to keep my purity, a marriage isn’t disagreeable…”

“Getting the best of both worlds is not viable. The royal family has to carry on its bloodline, so something like a pure love without consummation is impossible. While I could get a concubine and have her bear my heir, that will probably end up accusations of blaspheming the Saintess…” I tear through her soft words with a curt reply.

“C-Concubine? You are such a pervert!” …Well, that was a weird reaction. I answer anyway.

“Having a concubine or two is only normal for a king. Keeping alliances with the nobles requires marriages and you can’t just set up marriage contracts with your infant children…” After saying this, I stopped. This muscle brained idiot wouldn’t understand a word of politics.

“…Anyway, I am a Darkness and Fire element dual-magician. Since you are a Light element mage, our marriage will give the impression that the Church has changed its opinions of Darkness mages and the Demon race…” As I said this, Atla’s expression turned pale.

“You are a Darkness mage! To think that the prince of the kingdom is on the path of evil… If not for your status, I would certainly draw my sword! And the Orthodoxy Church will continue to oppose the evil Darkness magi and the demon race until they are exterminated from this earth!” With a self-righteous expression, she proudly proclaimed her ideals of racial genocide. As expected, negotiations seem to have broken down.

“…The church certainly cannot hope to oppose the entire demon race. The mages born with the light element have been lowering, and you are the only candidate for the Holy Sword in this decade. There is long-standing peace between the demon race and human race, so the Orthodoxy’s extremist views are being opposed by many citizens. Also, believers in heroes fade in the absence of war.

If the church wants to be relevant again, it must co-operate with the state. Or else, you will have no other path to survive. Two decades ago, your Orthodoxy would have sent someone to plead for my exile from the country, but now you don’t mind a marriage alliance… The times have certainly changed, so you should change with them too.” Nevertheless, I continued to speak with Atla, trying to bring her to see my point of view.

“Aren’t you being too ridiculous? I, Athanasia Serenity refuse to marry a scumbag like you! Shut your trap!” Her hair began dancing, as if a mighty wind was blowing. This was a sign of her agitation.

“Okay, but remember this. If your church tries for an engagement later, I will be forced to take you as a concubine. First come, first served, you know.” My words were lit the powder-keg on fire.

“…!” With a voiceless grunt, she immediately drew her sword.
