(Monthly) Short Story Writing Prompts Submission Thread

You need to work on your English. A lot.
There's a lack of technical skill throughout, and it impacts the quality of story telling quite a lot.

The story itself was pretty good though. I liked it, even if I don't like gay stuff.

 

I know tis is a bit rushed and somehow I feel lacking when I finished writing it and I have this habit of mistaking some words oh well maybe next time I guess.

Theme: June 2017's theme: Please don't spoil it.

Genre: Uhn... Comedy maybe?

Word Count: 558? That was short! >.<

Spoiler: Maybe it would've been a better idea to not think of it as a dream...

"So... Do you... Like reading?"
... "Mom!? Do we have any medicine to cure madness?"
"What nonsense are you spouting girl?"
"Hey hey hey! Wait! You're not mad! Hear me out!"
"I'm hearing a voice on my head mom! I think I need to go to a sanatorium or something!"
"It's just a headache making you think you're hearing stuff! Go sleep already! It's 6am!"
"I said listen to me!!!"
"Fiiiiine, as soon as I finish this chapter."
"You said that when it was 10pm!!!"
"Don't worry, it will be okay... Somehow."

I raised from my chair and went to the bathroom to wash my face, maybe mom is right in saying I shouldn't stay awake for this long...

"Listen, you're not mad! I'm a spirit of the dead, and I need to-"
"I really am getting mad..."
"You're not mad! I'm really a spirit of the dead!!!"
"Right, and then you'll tell me I need to fulfill your last wishes because you couldn't complete them in life, and it's something extreeeeemely important that nobody else except for me, that had the perfect affinity to you could accomplish, so you transversed the very barrier of death to tell me of what I need to do."
"..."
"Did you really do this kind of incredible cliche or did my wave of madness stop?"
"The... Former..."
"Great... Well, I guess I fainted while reading a chapter, so I can play along... What is the quest I need to do? Save the world? Rescue a damsel in distress? Give a warning to some random country that they'll receive a nuke tomorrow?"
"No, that is... I'm actually an author, and I died before I could finish my last book, so I'd want you to-"
"To finish it for you...? Right, sure, then you'll say that your penname is Earl Greyhat and that the last book of the 57 Flowers of Christmas was delayed for so long because the writer's block kept on hitting you over and over again, so you rewrote everything five times already and that gave you a heart attack? So meeting me of all people was the perfect lucky occasion because I would be able to give you the right ideas to make the thing flow and make this series actually end."

"Please don't say-"
"You can read minds of the dead or something...?"

"And here we congratulate Amy Phariah, for writing an unofficial ending, that had more sales than all previous volumes added together, for the acclaimed series of 57 books, 57 Flowers of Christmas! A round of applause to her!!!"
*lots of clapping sounds*
"So... When is it that I will wake up, again?"
"After you accept the fact that you just became a millionaire, maybe?"
"Amy! What do you have to say about yourself!"
"Well... To everyone that is here, I just want to say that... If you ever think you're going mad due to a ghost possessing you, and that they tell you that you are the chosen person to finish the series they were writing through all their lives. Don't buy it, they might be saying the truth, they might make you rich. But you definitely won't endure the commentaries on your body curves whenever you're taking a bath."

The noises died down, and with this, she jumped out of the window.

Somehow there wasn't much plot to this, the ending was a bit unexpected to me as well, but... Hey, it's something!

 

That ending....

 

I won't say it's my best work, but... It just happened somehow, the author came up as a man in my head, so... Well, lack of privacy would become a problem and... Well, there you have it.

 

I was complimenting...I liked that end. And this kind of short ones are better light reads.

 

My fucking god. I'm so glad I added colour to my Halloween story now

 

Oh... Then thank you! It didn't take much to write it, and it went quite smoothly, it was fun to write it!

Eh, if you go digging through the Halloween competition for my entry, you'll see my purely dialogue entry had colour coding to tell who was who when there were multiple people talking.

At least that made it so I didn't need to wait a few minutes to digest what was being said...


And you sound like you were really having fun while writing this.

 

Oh, it was partially on purpose, it was meant to be a bit confusing because the character was somewhat confused about the situation as well.

And well, I did have fun indeed! I love writing! \(^^)/

From what I know about brasca, if you laugh, she did her job.

Well, that's a bit of the problem when I write, I don't plan stuff, I just write. Sometimes they get really small, or at others stupidly big (one of my stories at AG got 12k words... I made it in 3 days... >.>).

But yeah, the execution wasn't among the best, but when I got to the point she would start writing, I didn't really feel like describing the process, so I just skipped to the end... Not sure if it was the best of ideas, but it's a thing.

As for the speaking tags, Pieface mentioned that as well... It was a bit intentional to make it confusing though, the MC was awake at a really late time, and was thinking she was going mad, so things were somewhat confusing on her head due to being suddenly possessed by a ghost and being super sleepy, probably with a headache as well. So it was supposed to give this feeling of confusion as well.

Maybe it wasn't the best idea to try and give a feeling of confusion by not pointing out who is the speaker, but... Hey, the idea went to my head, and I like testing stuff out in here!

I'll probably avoid doing something similar in the future though, since it doesn't seem to have had a good effect.

Well, not always... But this story was supposed to be more or less a comedy, so... Yes! If you laughed, it worked! \(^^\) \(^^)/ (/^^)/
