I just see a thread in MAL forum about people naming their child based on anime... like obito, sasuke, shiro, ryuuko, goku, etc... and he/she isn't a japanese/asian person

and i thought that maybe there are also people here who want to do the same, naming their child with novel character... like Linley, Leylin, Roland, Satou, Rudeus, Ark, Weed, etc (considering you could find husband/wife and he/she would agree to it)

so, what's ur opinion about this matter?

I think people would get the wrong idea about naming a child "weed"
especially those who have no contact with the novel world, which is about those who don't like reading, which is a large percentage of the world.

Linley isn't that bad but yun che, su luo, Lin Ming, Xiao Ye, etc, is terrible to name your kid. Just imagine them being beaten up at school for being the white Asian (that isnt asian at all) kid.

If I'm to be honest, I'd probably give my son the middle name Matthias... but I draw the line at Mattimeo!

I think Linley and Leylin arent bad names at all but a name like obito or naruto seems a bit much.

I don't think there's an issue in naming your child after a novel character, if the series means enough to you, your partner agrees, the name doesn't have negative connotations in the real world and that it matches the family lineage & country of residence.

I personally try to use only real names for my character with the exception of 1 whom I took a real name, then appended it with an extension of half-real, half-fictional meaning.

I have a heritage that is strongly canadian+german and british, so I also have the freedom of irish, welsh, scottish or english (olde and modern) names on top of french, canadian and german names. Now my aesthetics are highly bias towards asian women and so potentially a child of mine could have justification for once of those oriental heritages and names.

thats assuming I ignore the single fact I will never have children XD

    ---

I simply draw the line at people calling their children after characters like anakin, jar jar binks, r2d2, c3po, batman etc etc
