Lol, I am reading Zhanxian right now and feel like the MC meets the spirit of what you're looking for but he kills a lot of people who are almost innocent for power at the beginning. Specifically, he is an executioner for the first ten chapters or so and draws power from killing the people that are sent to him for beheading. But after that I think it's a good fit.
Also try Tales of Demons and Gods, I Shall Seal the Heavens, and just about any chinese cultivating fantasy without a ruthless MC. Sticking your neck out for strangers is more of a Japanese light novel trope.

    The King of the Battlefield.

Nah, it also happens a lot in CN/KR novels, especially when the one in need of rescue is a beautiful woman.

A Practical Guide to Evil, the protagonist pretty much makes one move where she compromises the lives of plenty of innocent people, then spends the rest of the story (up to what is currently published) regretting that decision. Waffles back and forth between how she can help her subjugated kingdom *without* waging a suicidal war for liberation, all while stabbing heroes and villains before they can stab her (though she tends to fail the “before” part pretty often)

Edit: before her unfortunate decision, the story kicks off with her trying to save an innocent woman being attacked in front of her (contrary to your request), but for the most part she tends to only move for her closest allies.

I might just naturally drop novels like this on the KR side before this happens. For some reason in my mind a beautiful woman (besides main heroine/s) in need in a KR novel is some kind of a trap. Most heroines start off stronger/more capable than the MC anyway.

I just want to clarify. you don't want an MC to kill innocent people to gain power. but if it's not to gain power or because of the situation deem it necessary it's fine?

Yes it's fine but the protagonist should not be scheming for this result.

Yes this is exactly what I want but this is already in my favorite list.

First of all, he saves his friends, and the workers team could be useful for hom in the future, so he advices them to call their families and tell them to evavuate. He by no means "risks his life for strangers" while doing that
