Good job with progressing your life :blobsalute:

Someday, I'll need to do something with my life too. Can't stop right now because I know, I'll simply seek other drug.
I knew I can quit just as I quit games, anime and manga... but I can't stop taking new drug :(

I know what you mean about games, anime and manga. Most successful games and other media tend to be extremely gamified to appeal to reward centers in our brains so that everything else seems boring and plain by comparison.

My problem with online novels is that there's virtually an unlimited supply. With other things I can binge, and burn it out of my system. With online novels the binging doesn't stop.

I was able to stay clean for a month, and was much more productive for that month. Not as productive as I wanted because I ended up being distracted by other things but more productive overall.

Then it all went back to steady state. Now I'm starting a new mini break.

My problem is internet... this I admit, is impossible to quit. If I quit novels, I'm afraid that I'll end up lurking dark side of internet.
I'm okey going offline and be productive. But if forced offline due to internet outage, I become unproductive and sleepy. Also moody as one time I lost temper over a small matter. That are the obvious signs of a real addiction :(

    Day 2

Didn't compensate too much. Watched the Shooter movie.

Another 5 miles on the elliptical. Maybe I should start Evil Russian tomorrow.

Downloaded Unreal Engine. Will probably buy the Unreal class. Don't know if this will just be another distraction.

Got sound to move object in Unity working but need to feed mic input to an audio mixer to prevent the odd echo. Added Vive Tracker to my demo but the gun always shows up low. Tried to transform it but it messed up the pivot point. Not sure why it didn't do it in the standalone. Also multipoint trails seem to be super process heavy in VR.

The custom char asset I'm beta testing can already do some great animations. Wonder how easy it is to create an editor extension to crank out prefabs. The default char is certainly better looking than UMA but no surprise there since it's based on Helena.

    Day 3

Wasted a lot of time watching random YouTube videos on games and comic book characters.

Spent several hours trying to figure out why the Vive tracker shows up several feet low on my existing demo but is fine in clean project. Seems to be a VRTK artifact. I can translate the object up but can't change the pivot point so it kind of rotates like it's at the tip of a stick. What does the origin do on the tracked object? Couldn't find any docs. Setting it to the head or the held objects gives whacky results. Also suspect that changing the tracked child objects requires a resync with the headset. Too bleeding edge.

Finally got my sound reactive firing to sort of work. Kind of flakey though. Should I abandon shooting practice and focus on sword?

    Day 4

Drove in the morning at 4:30am for 2 hours, slept, went to a career workshop. Very unproductive in terms of my projects.

Got basic animation recorder asset to work still need to integrate with VR. Thinking about visualization options.

    Day 5

    Super low motivation today.

    Planned to do this:

Record sword motions and play back. Use voice commands to record, playback and in the future add speed control.

Use trails for visualization or colors and glows to indicate sync rate. Need to sync start locations and initialize height.

Actually ended up going to several stores looking for electronic parts (wires + pogo connectors) but no luck. Did buy a helping hand though. It's one of those magnifiers with gator clips on a stand.

Watched the first season of The Tick (the new one) and several episodes of LHSD. Pretty much total waste of a day. Sigh.

Closed door cultivation ends. Will restart on Monday. Can't focus.

Got basic feet and hand tracking working last Friday. Can sort of record and playback in VR.

Haven't really done anything since. Got my five trackers which set me back $550. Unity has another sale. Tempted to spend another $210 on various assets that may or may not be useful. Two are procedural modelers. OpenCV seems interesting especially I won't touch ARKit in the near future since I only have a 6 plus and not a 6s. Music and particle effects are difficult to pass up.

Up to chapter 1218 in God of Slaughter. Have to say that it made a surprising reference back to the main character's initial transmigration into the world. You normally don't see that in modern guy transmigrated into another body plot.

I am all over the place. Focus. Focus...

Not many translation updates but now I'm on God of Slaughter 1241. Sigh. 400 more chapters until I can burn this out of my system.

Still stuck on whether to get OpenCV for Unity. The web demos are really slow but it might be the easiest way to prototype stuff with OpenCV. Looks like there's even a Tensorflow example. Probably won't work out of the box and I'm really scatterbrained as it is to start messing with OpenCV. Also looked at Driver4VR. Interesting but how to integrate it?

Last two month has been extremely extremely unproductive. I thought I would be able to spend a great deal of my time building my PoC and update my demo while trying to transition to a new industry but I've done so little. Instead I've read lots, slept lots and spent a fair amount of time floating in a pool.

Starting tomorrow I need to go on another 1 month break from online novels.

    My bookmark:
    GoS: 1316 raw
    MW: 1173
    TMW: 1164
    BTTH: 1096

    Other series updates fairly slowly.

Tomorrow I WILL update my LinkedIn and apply to at least one VR group!

Started writing headline and summary variations while waiting at a bus station after I missed my ride.

Now waiting in a long line for a buffet at a casino. I can't easily take out what I need to be productive so it's really tempting to read some chapters...

That was a long diary... (skimmed through it)
Anyways, hope you can find a better job and don't worry bout the future.
    Life is life.
It may give you lemons, the lemonade is most probably going to suck, but that's just the lemon(ade) there is this whole aspect of life to explore.
    Good luck bro :)

    Day 1

    Still clean.

Did open up my phone and go to the NUF translation index out of habit before I realized what I was doing. Seems like I'm just wired to do that whenever I unlock my phone.

Went on an odd tangent learning a bit of Angular JS because a consulting company recruiter mention it. I guess it's good for single page apps. Does HTML5 do single page? I'm pretty sure Silverlight does.

Tried making a sword in Archimatrix. Thought I could create a sword template and then create variations on it parametrically. Couldn't get the extrude to scale independently on one end. If I taper it it looks all weird. Maybe I should stick to Probuilder -at least that extrudes like Blender. Still Archimatrix seems good for well architecture. Went through the basic tutorial for it last week maybe I'll look at the more advanced ones tomorrow.

Tonight is cloudy so I can't use the Theta to take pictures of the night sky.

Updated my LinkedIn profile! Joined 4 VR groups. Or at least requested to join.

Still clean. Although I bought Sleeping Dogs definitive edition. I had the original for ages along with most of the DLC but didn't play too much of it. Spent 5 hours on it. I really enjoy the melter combat but then I found a firearm, and didn't really know what to do with it. Took me a long time to figure out how to holster it, and AFAIK theee's no place to buy bullets.

Implemented voice control for record and playback in simple ball animation demo. Added speed adjustment but didn't integrate voice for it. Got Cinema Mocap to work with Kinect 360 after some driver issues. For single camera mocap it's not bad. Too bad no multi camera support. Also heard that Vive and Kinect One run on similar IR setups so they interfere which is sad.

Connected with an old colleague who now runs some sort of data science organization. While data science is interesting in itself I'm not super into looking at customer data and analyzing market trends. I'm more into the object/gesture/motion aspect essentially CV applications. Should I expand my horizons or too much of a distraction?

    Day 3

Still clean. Played Sleeping Dogs for 2 hours. Thought the karaoke game was difficult until I realized that I didn't need to time green bar. Went to a video game club and an anime club at a community college near where I was staying. Curious what people are playing and watching. Evidently Super Smash Brothers and Made in the Abyss (gave a Miyazaki feel). Guess I go to the campus there in hopes of being able to concentrate. I wonder if the students are here mostly because of financial reasons or aptitude. I wonder what credentials are needed to teach at a community college that just has an associate degree. I had almost forgotten there was such a thing.

Been thinking about getting a rondel dagger. I have a plastic one for practice but that made me curious. Evidently they are rather uncommon or I should say I haven't seen one for less than $100. I did see a tri edge multi section spear that looked similar but the tip piece was a little shorter.

Not too productive today. Implemented voice control for record/playback mode, start/stop, slower/faster and pause. Evidently speech recognition for "pause" is very flakey. Maybe I have a weird drawl when I say the word. Maybe I should treat stop as pause or use another work like "freeze" but that's kind of odd.

Tomorrow I will setup my trackers again and start tracking torso. Might need to buy more mounting accessories. Played with cinema mocap recording. The hand tracking is very jittery.

    Day 4

Still clean. Two hours of SD. Watched Book of Eli and part of the Hercules movie (the one where he uses a lightning whip at the end).

Read a little about Asynchronous Time/Space Warp and multi-resolution rendering -essentially little gimmicks (lossy) to improve VR performance.

Messed around with Skanect and Kinect Fusion. Bought a Kinect One with an adapter for about $100. It should give better results with Cinema Mocap. MS also has 3D Scan that uses the Kinect One. Tried object/depth scanning with the Kinect 360. It works pretty well but bugs out at times. Wished I explored this some 3-4 years ago. Alas time wasted.

Spent lots of time experimenting with action camera mounts for the Vive tracker and researching online. Eventually bought a clip mount and a bunch of 1/4 screws for cameras. Also need to 3D print some custom parts

After about 2-3 hours finally figured out how to test for animation completed. Damn those floating point comparisons! I was just explaining them to someone else a couple of days ago and now it comes back to bite me. Guess epsilons for everyone!
