Hello everyone, this is NUF Programming Club's Learning Corner. This thread is meant for users to ask for help or posting useful tips or lessons that they think will help other users. It's meant to be a place where someone who has never programmed a day in their life before can pick up the basics and ask questions. To start off the thread I'll be teaching the basics of HTML/CSS and JavaScript. We're starting with HTML and JavaScript as it requires minimal setup as everyone should already have a web-browser and more importantly, you can see results quickly. Lessons hopefully come twice a week. Table Of Contents: Lesson #1: Building your first website! Will be available when it's done. Before the lesson, I recommend the following: If you don't have a text editor you should probably download either Notepad++ or Sublime Text. If you're using Windows, you should also set Windows to show you file extensions. Link here. I hope you find this thread useful and that we'll be seeing you soon join us on our projects. I'm learning how to code java in school now so hopefully I can pick up some tips for the future here.
Aw Yess~! Thank you! I've visited W3Schools, but I don't know where to start. Should I start with HTML(&CSS), JavaScript or XML? Or is there something else? and Codewars sounds super interesting but I can't seem to prove my skills yet....
Thanx, this is a really interesting en educative idea. Have some previous experience with python but iǘe been idle for years probably need to start over again.
Definitely start with HTML & CSS, the JavaScript at least is (near) useless without HTML, and in those rare exceptions, said person would be able to pick up HTML near instantly. Don't worry too much about it though, I'll cover the basics soon and that should get you to know what you should be looking into next.
java is completely different from javascript, besides a bit of shared syntax they are two completely different things
Dem moment even RRL is looking to learn from NUF tutorials, and it seems wise to add a link to show file extension for windows then E.G. https://www.file-extensions.org/article/show-and-hide-file-extensions-in-windows-10
Is this a free.99 course? As in to obtain these teaching programs all I would need to do is search hard enough. And if I can't find said program I didn't look hard enough? Money is tight right now and I've squandered a fair amount of chances to properly learn coding in my life.
I'm just a mod on RRL. I have nothing to do with the coding stuff there. As for doing stuff on NUF, why not? It's not like NUF is a competitor or anything. If anything, RRL is mentioned a lot on NUF so its existence is good for RRL.
I don't use VS but I imagine it should have enough and more. Just make sure the version you're using has extensions for html, css, and javascript. Yes
If only I wasn't taking a program, one course that covers the exact topics that you're currently talking about.... Well, I'll still follow along for what isn't covered!
I recommend the app sololearn(its free and available on android, apple ,windows phone ) https://www.sololearn.com/Courses/ many simple tasks that can be done in a few minutes includes : • HTML • CSS • Javascript • Java • JQuery • Python • C++ • C#
Using VS is like buying a super computer to watch DVDs. Sure it works, but you won't be using the extra bells and whistles. But I'll have to assume you know what you're doing if you're deciding on using that.
