Discussion [OP-ED] Problems Concerning Donations

1st paragraph - tells us about @NZPIEFACE

2nd paragraph - still about him

3rd paragraph - about a novel that can get ppl sick, but it has to be read on another site >.> (advertising + forwarding).

4th paragraph - finally started on LL

5th paragraph - half on release speed/half about LL

6th paragraph - about pie's opinion on donation to translators

7th paragraph - about him again, an extension of 1st paragraph

Donation too much there no such a thing
There only translator need it that why it ended like that if she realy want take it slow just say 5 ch/week if she got too much money just disable the donation for a while until she clean it
Ppl change infront of money and realy few can resist it

 

Donating is a noble thing if you do it for the right cause.
That said are we talking about greed? If yes the problem starts with the beginning of humanity. The bible is a story about greed. So there's nothing you can do about that. Just learn how to survive in a world full of greedy people.

 

Don't worry NZ guy, iirc ur still yung, so I'll teach u that ppl overestimate (some ppl many times more) how much other ppl care about things u did. Nobody will remember soon enough, they 2 busy living their own lives.

so she started translating more when there was a good reason to translate faster like money? I mean there is the phrase "Time is money" for a reason. I am confused with the original post up there.

 

I don't donate because I want more chapters. I donate as thanks for the work that they have already completed.

Maybe the problem is people's mindset; you're giving money and expecting something back. That's not a donation, that's a business transaction.

As for piefacedude, I don't see what you're getting at. You say money is making translators evil, but I see no evidence in your Op-Ed.

It's why there are people that argue that it should be called "commission" and not donation, because that's the reality of it, it's a commission, not a donation.

So... Yeah, translating for money is business, not fanwork... Which isn't anything new though... >.>

Business isn't bad though, it just isn't a fantranslation.

 

That's exactly my thought and it's even more evident when you set a certain amount for chapter.

ps1 Nothing contrary about translators making money.

Eh? I'm not offended, tbh, I don't even remember the post, so I most likely got your meaning.

 

People complain about release speeds being slow, but translators need to work to survive! You can't expect them to sit in front of the computer all day doing translations for no return and somehow still manage to pay all their bills and buy food to eat.
So what's wrong with donations? I don't see the issue with it.
Unless you're saying that oh, people donated loads but the TLer isn't pumping out chapters at all and breaking promises.

 

Wait, how much money do people donate? *runs off to find how to make a donate button* I wouldn't mind some money and I already publish 1/2 chapter per day... lol.

 

Same, at the very least it makes me feel like less of a leech lmfao. But I also think it's fine to trade cash for chapters.

Personally I'm only able to give a few dollars here and there, but maybe those who are less financially dumb than me are able to give more, haha.
