the novel is just beginning you can't judge it on that some novels are good first 100 chapter then become trash
c27 was just so so stupid. MC commits suicide out of stupidity by swallowing too big a powersource by accident. Goes "fuck it" and goes to sleep instead of trying to vomit it out. And then gets saved from exploding by his cheat automatically activating while he is asleep without him even knowing and giving him great benefits. Terrible
I think our little MC just got hit by the booze and lost his rationality ... "It didn’t take too long before the alcohol hit him. Not sure what was going to happen to him, Fang Xing decided he might as well go to sleep." He seems to be street smart, but not really cultivation smart. And considering the the wine's strength got increased - he could as well have died by alcohol intoxication ... funny end for a MC.
Booze doesn't work that fast, it takes time to be absorbed from the stomach. Also, even before getting drunk he had the "brilliant" idea of drinking all the booze while "catching" the pill in his mouth and not swallowing it. he could have just gotten a second wine skin and moved from one to the other. He was explicitly not drunk when he came up with that idea. This was street dumb too. The only reason for it was so that he could have his cheat automagically activate. And this is actually what bothers me more than his foolishness. I am ok with an MC being foolish sometimes, but he was foolish in a very very specific and illogical way, and the only reason he did so (which was OOC) was specifically so that the author could create an unlikely scenario for his cheat to automatically activate and do stuff. And I dislike auto activating cheats, cheats should be manually activated
Going along with mrttao, this was likely the single most frustrating point in the story for me. It definitely felt like an author's "the ends justify the means" wherein they had a specific goal and outcome in mind yet no viable method of reaching it, so the story was stretched beyond the limits of suspension of disbelief. I'm somewhat fine with MCs inheriting treasures that help them, I'm good with the occasional bout of serendipity and luck, but this was just raw stupidity on Fang Xing's part despite being shown to be crafty beyond his years. His upbringing hasn't been coddled, so he should know very well what to do after eating something poisonous or how to handle alcohol and its containers. The positive is that there aren't quite as many jarring instances like this from what I've gone through so far. This scene stands out to me in part because such events aren't commonly employed, from my view.
It really depends on the type of booze, and whether you had a snack with it. Carbonated strong booze (i.e. vodka + mineral water) on an empty stomach can make you completely wasted in only a few minutes. As we know, MC didn't eat anything, and while it was only a normal wine, we don't know what that pellet did to it - it might have worked in a similar fashion to the gas in mineral water. We also don't know specifics of how cultivation affects alcohol intoxication - it very well might be that "unblocked arteries" increase blood circulation speed, and with it the speed of alcohol absorption. Add that MC is only a child, so the amount necessarily to make him drunk should be that much smaller... MC is also the type that bravely tries any idea that comes to him first and thinks later, as could be seen from how he gave away to others most of the loot for the sake of a prank, or even from how he tried to cultivate by using that viagra plant... So I don't see any problem with him deciding to not to try to vomit the pellet...
They said that the strength of the whine got increased tenfold and considering ~2% of alcohol are already absorbed via your buccal mucosa while drinking ... it could be enough for a child to lose his common sense. edit: Nevertheless, it would have felt less forced/ less stupid, if for example the pellet would have been dissolved immediately upon entering his stomach and then released all of the energy in one go ... him passing out due to pain etc ... or him getting drunk too quick due to the increased strength/amount of alcohol consumed and swallowing the pellet while the world starts to turn around him.
Citing Fang Xing's age as a contributor would not be correct, as it has been stated that Fang Xing can outdrink Yu, and in fact can outdrink him to an excessive degree. Yu is not only quite aged, but also very large, and so we can already establish that Fang Xing's body cannot be said to work in accordance to how we might expect a child's to function, but at least as a grown man's, if not more. Heck, part of the reason he took notice of the alcohol at all is because it usually takes a considerable amount to even slightly affect him.
And then further stated that this was just enough to make him buzzed, while normally 2 full gourds will have literally no effect on him Sure, if this was a normal child then it would all be valid arguments. But MC apparently has a lot of practical experience with alcohol and poisons. Yes, that would have been great. although I would still have preferred for manual activation of the cheat, I simply dislike self activating cheats
I wonder why they don't send more level appropriate disciples after such monsters. If level 4 beast vs lvl 3 disciple carries an extremely high risk of death, sending level 4 or level 5 disciples would be much less dangerous...
I get the feeling MC is going to make the alchemists pay for the privilege of being able to practice crafting pellets with his resources.
Honestly for a mere ~30% discount I wouldn't gamble away my stuff on the high chance of failure and 0 guarantee that alchemists give. Sell the powder, buy a pellet. Even if you manage to find an alchemist with an 80% success rate, well, you really only have their word of their success rate, and it can still fail. And that is assuming they do not steal the powder and then tell you it failed.
I'm more surprised by the conversion rate between spirit stones and gold - if ten high profile bandits over ten years only managed to accumulate a maximum equivalent of 300 stones then that's less than what an outer disciple with the worst aptitude gets. No one would be willing to do anything but mining spirit stones in the nearest mine. I get the feeling gold->spirit stones conversion would be far from the reverse of spirit stones->gold, and the sect is defrauding the layment.
The nearest mine is guarded by powerful cultivators who would kill you for trying to mine it without permission. The miners are likely mortal slaves. Basically like IRL diamond and gold mines
I'm loving this novel. "I was born with it! Why do you care?" Lol. It's nice to see an alchemist actually using the skills with fire that he or she's supposed to have. And look, elders who actually do their jobs!
