Is it recommended have previous knowledge, like watching all of the previous star wars movies and the comics and whatnot in order to be able to understand and enjoy Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

I heard it was really good and will watch it soon...

No need to watch 1,2,3. The rest you can watch to understand the force awakens.

Watch 4, 5, 6 first, then you can watch 7. Then go on to 1, 2, and 3. It's weird, I know, but trust me

If you don't watch 4,5,6 you won't get the references

So just watch 4,5,6 but 1,2,3 are optional?

You might like 7 less if you've seen 4 at least it was that way with me.

When I watched it, I thought that 4,5,6 was important as directly continues on to 7 and then you will need 1,2,3 as filler knowledge for lineage of some characters.

I suggest you to watch 3, 4,5 and 6 then go straight to 7. episode 1, 2 is optional. why did I suggest you to watch Episode 3? because that is the start of everything that happen in the later movies. sry for wrong grammar ...

7 is crammed full of references to 4,5, and 6, but I could only catch a single mention of anything related to the prequels.

My big bro and little bro saw the movie and they said it was bad, and that they didn't understand why so many people loved it. And they watched 1 2 3 4 5 6 and enjoyed it (especially 4 5 6, who were much better than 1 2 3, 3 was bad).
So I'm wondering if people liked the movie for real, or if it was just because it's a Star War movie that they forgot their brain due to excess excitment?

Do you know the correct sequence to watch star wars?
    Its 4 5 1 2 3 6. Then 7

That way, you can get a background story right, and still the series ends on a good note.
