Well... since GGP already spilled the beans, Qidan had to make a formal announcement just to make things official. I guess this is just a formality to verify ggp statement.

 

So 90 titles is somehow more than all other translators combined?, I guess they are ignoring the existence of all translators outside of WW, Gravity and Volare.

 

What's the point of this announcement? Why is it announcing a partnership with a company that it already owns?

Having more high-quality international partners (though the same company) means Yuewen Group’s international developments hasn't moved at all. Also, this means more international opportunities for Qidian's money making scheme and less oppartunities for Chinese webnovels. Yuewen Group will be the pioneer that allows China’s creative industry to make them millions.

In recent years, China’s webnovels have gained popularity overseas with a group of “fan translators” quietly becoming popular. Among these, a group called Gravity Tales was founded in the USA in January 2015 and now has over 30 titles, including ‘The King’s Avatar’ and ‘Ze Tian Ji’. Widely beloved by international readers before the Great Migration V1 and V2 and especially hated after it was bought out by Qidian, their highest single-day traffic was over 2.5 million and they used to have over 150,000 regular users. As a website based upon providing Chinese webnovels to international readers, Qidian International will not only provide formal licensing agreements (I thought they just bought translators' hard work for 40$ a chapter...) but will also provide technical support (it does?), share their content creation expertise (they do?), and help establish translator development and training (translators learn how to MTL better). On the other hand, Gravity Tales with their once-abundant international development experience and user data will help Yuewen Group deeper their understanding of the Chinese to English translation market so they can strike it rich. This cooperation of formal licensing agreements, developing translators and reaching more readers will allow Yuewen Group to open up more of the Western audience to hate Qidian. Yuewen Group’s CEO, Wu Wenhui says,“The partnership with Gravity Tales is evidence that Yuewen Group’s development into the English market is accelerating.” No, really, you just bought them for 900k.
