Doesn't Scroll and Candle ability can work well together to keep the bridge in optimal state regardless of how many weight is on the bridge. Scroll ability makes the bridge as strong as metal, whereas Candle ability will make metals remain in their normal state and not wear out due to fatigue.

 

I'm waiting for that State Retaining ability to evolve into a Physic & Time/Space Retaining level of OP.

scroll's power is "record" and "manifestation".
so shes technically just someone with a perfect memory that can materialize the information into a book.


Anna's power however isn't just "pure fire" like the fireball witch some chapters back, but instead the "law of thermodynamics".
she can directly control the laws regarding the "heat" of her makeshift magical atoms, making it hot, cold (only down to room temperature), change form, and so on.

i'm quite interested whether Anna can also reach subzero temperatures.
technically heat is simply the intensity of vibrations of atoms, where less vibration means colder temperatures.
and to be "cold" one needs to absorb another atom's vibrations instead.

 

She could, after completely understand the laws and theory of this physics branch.

About thermodynamics, I don't think so. Her magic atoms doesn't not conform to any rule of thermodynamics.

 

Basically witches are Espers from Railgun/Index done RIGHT. The more they know about how things work, the more they understand their own power and the more powerful they become. Also practice is important and they literally get better just by using their power a lot.

Even certain fat bird power can be improved despite the fact shapechanging would be impossible in our Earth.

Since she can only change into birds, by studing both birds anatomy and how birds fly, she will gain a better understanding of them and improve her ability.

One of the things that I love of this novel is that magic doesn't go "Fuck Science" but the more science you know the better you can use magic!

roland didn't really think of this, the only extent he came up close to this is by using it as an anti-shear overcoat on the seams.

he could technically make soraya reinforce strings with thick coating of "high-strength" steel paint.

Quick question: is there a list of characters somewhere?

I recently started reading again after a few weeks and I can't keep track of who is who anymore.
Too many witches, too many random characters that were introduced dozens of chapters ago and then suddenly pop up again with no reminder.

Is there a glossary or something?

 

No, just read from the start again.

I mean is not really that big deal. The important characters do appear kind if regularly, the church guys are basically just mentioned by gender age and rank so they are not that important to remember.

If you mean the "New Five Witches" their abilities and names get mentioned a lot so you just have bad memory.

Other than that, Roland siblings do get mentioned a lot. Garcia was the one who got Roland 1.0 to die so our current Roland 2.0 could live.

Besides that is there any witch you are curious about?

I mean the author did expend several chapters introducing a nice zealot church follower girl only to have her killed later. And that was the most screentime a church guy had besides the "future pope" aka the guy who is going to be the Pope next.

The Church are hypocritical and monsters. The pills, the disease they created, the witches they brainwash and use despite they so called mission to kill witches...

Is fine if you just remember them as "bastards who deserve the worst."

The rest? Well the knights, soldiers and Roland civic servants and tge witches do appear a lot so you just have bad memory.

 

I don't want to spoil anything, but the Church is more complex than you're thinking.

I didn't read anything about cold about her ability so I cannot say yet her ability is law of thermodynamics but I can think that her ability is related to vibrations of atom (heat) and subsequently the second law of thermodynamics(expansion of heat) but this what exactly what fire do far from related to it. I can guess that her ability to cut is similar to Mikasa Mikoto's "Iron sword" from Railgun that practically work as atomic chainsaw.
