I already finished this novel along time ago but just recently started rereading it. Oh my God, I forgot how cold blooded this guy is LOL He plays with peoples lives just for fun and knowledge LOL Man I love main characters like this! Overlord is pretty good too. There's just something about dark magicians and necromancers that tickle me just the right way. Am I secretly a terrible human being? Or are we all just repressing our basic instincts that seem to be released in these novels?
Nah it's about something that we can't do or we don't know about we find it entertaining. I mean we modern people would most likely love to go into a cultivation world and rule over the land with our strength and get a harem. Or into a magical world where you wage war with the demon kin. Meanwhile If they found out that we have such technology they would probably would love to visit here too. Since we can't slaughter people at will cause it is against the law it is not bad reading about it.
Probably helps that the author is so unapologetic in writing Leylin though. He made it clear from day 1 that this is they Leylin show and stuck with it. Most author would try to justify it somehow and make the MC look good (cough...cough...ATG...) but here Leylin is just plain evil and the dude revels in it.
to be fair, he's simply being true to himself while being smart about blending in till he's ready to get what he wants. And yes, the MC in WMW is def one of the strongest reason to read.
Leylin is one of my favorite Mc's. I love he sticks to his character and doesn't change plus the author doesn't try to justify his actions with bullshit
Ah pragmatic people... also know as not hypocritical bullshitters... can be confused with assholes however.
Love? You are looking for the wrong novel! He is looking for the woman with the best genetics to give birth to his children. These children will be subjects of experimentation with his own bloodline. He has tens of women by the end but does he give two shits about any of them? I doubt it
Leylin gets married for the sole purpose of continuing his bloodline in hopes of a mutation that he can study. Leylin abandons anyone he has a remote emotional connection to
Don't you just love it when an MC is deceitful but so very straightforward? No bullshit, no long winded explanations about one person bringing righteous justice down upon another, just commits his "sins" and goes on to his next adventure. And when we get a rare protagonist who isn't quite a people person, that just makes it all the better by giving us that different ...err, flavor... of story!
I don't think Leylin is evil tho, he is pretty true neutral tho in status alignment, He will do what he benefits the most from be it a good or evil act, he can play by the rules if it benefits him, or he can equally break them if it benefits him.
