Hi All, I believe with the incoming storm over us there are some user that are keener to use adblock more than ever. This is a small guide i wrote for people that need to adblock. How to Adblock, basically there is 2 way to adblock in simplified sense. From your browser (easy) or from customizing your host file located in your pc/router. HOW TO ADBLOCK - PC 1. Have browser such as chrome / firefox (https://download.mozilla.org for firefox) 2. Download Ublock origin or the equivalent. DO NOT USE ADBLOCK PLUS since its corporate controlled. (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/) 3. Restart your browser and make sure adblocking is on. 4. Browse normally HOW TO ADBLOCK - Android / maybe iphone 1. Download Firefox on Google play store / app store 2. open extension / add on option 3. Download ublock origin 4. Browse normally How to block from host file - Windows OS So this one require you to edit or replace your host file. Its pretty simple but do not attempt if you don't feel confident. Basically what i use is the updated host file from https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts download the file provided and replace your hosts file. Using this method basically block the whole advertisement on your whole system so you will no longer see common ads on any client (for example torrent client like utorrent which you shouldn't be using but eh you get my point) DISCLAIMER: there might be more complicated or easier method out there i do not know off. please add your knowledge below or notify me if you want me to edit your method in. EDIT 1: Sorry apple user i do not use mac as such i cannot tell you about hosts file method in appleOS, you can still use the browser method though and the firefox method for mobile.
I would like to recommended uMatrix as well. It not an adblock program but companion to uBlock Origin by the very same developer. By default, uMatrix disable 3rd party javascripts, so most site still working. It effectively killed ads that relied on 3rd party javascript. IMO, it easy to use. User can allow trusted site such ajax.googleapis.com by green marked it. Then save setting to make it permanent. uMatrix can be use to block image from 3rd party site too. Although I never use this feature. Too bad, it not working for mobile firefox. In which case, I simply disable javascripts. Edit: Add more details.
the best way to don't care about those ads is just abandon the novel and get a new novel to read. srsly there's still a lot of novel to read in the world
UBlock sometimes block disqus comments on some sites. Solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/9anime/comments/5rz0c7/ublock_origin_is_blocking_disqus_comments/
If you just wanna read novels i suggest you get linux OS secondary account alongside your windows OS (do keep in mind operating double OS on a single Computer requires a proper PC dont use a laptop for this) use the linux os browser as it shows you only text hence no ads.
uMatrix is not really for noobs, it requires a lot of tinkering to get some sites working. It is more of noscript niche, rather than adblock.
no the reason i do not recommend adblock plus is due to it being controlled by a corporate which mean they could've track your usage and send the data to sell somewhere. i'm not saying its 100% true but i'm not taking chances.
"DO NOT USE ADBLOCK PLUS" Because its bad to support the small business sites and such? Are you making a big deal of the allow non intrusive ads feature? (When you can simply disable it.) Did you believe the internet rumor that ABP sold its soul to the big corps? (Spread by FAKE News) Did you also join the band wagon of hate?
More like guide to fattening purses of pirate sites. Adblocks lost companies about $60 billion in 2015 and 2016. Google has funded research to have their own system for ad block that allows non intrusive ads Whether users like it or not they will be seeing ads Facebook and Google might block other adblockers from using their sites https://www.monetizemore.com/blog/google-chrome-ad-blocking/
Not all their allowed ads are non-intrusive. It actually allowed some porn ads in a particular novel site. I tried blacklisting that ad and applied filters to remove it but it still appeared when I refreshed. So, I got fed up and uninstalled it. I actually support the OP in this case because Ad-Block now restricts your options to block different kinds of ads and is a HUGE resource hog.
To rationalize. 1. Performance wise adblock plus is heavier than ublock origin. This can be confirmed by multiple forum post and my own experience. (https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLo...ave_people_stopped_recommending_adblock_plus/) 2. Adblock plus have been approached by big companies to introduce acceptable ads which i found nice since it kept the ecosystem going but in the same time. They can pay to go through the adblocking even though its curated, it kinda bypass the "adblocking" itself since it still allow ads to be shown. 3. Since most of the user that will use this guide are probably not well informed or less informed on adblocking i choose the lightest and the adblocker that actually block the whole thing. Once they get pass the stage of less informed they could whitelist on their own.
Probably. But I think it easy to use. You don't have to tinkering much if you don't want to. Just simply allow all for that website. Only 3 clicks. 1) Click on uMatrix button, 2) Click on all and all mark turned green. 3) Reload to reload the broken site. Optional, click save to make the settings permanent. You can change the setting later, and red marked unnecessary 3rd party website. I agreed it is more of noscript niche than adblock. It better because instead of totally turn off javascript, you can choose which site the javascript allow to run. By default it allow 1st party site (from the same domain name) and block 3rd party. You can allow trusted site such as ajax.googleapis.com, save setting and never be bothered by it again.
