When the stories seem repetitive and the chapters neverending...

I digress. Would you rather prefer a fixed story where there's just a certain number of chapters to get the point across and then it ends or do you really like the neverending plot tropes of protagonist defeating supposedly strong enemy and suddenly another stronger enemy pops up?

Does it matter? You can drop/stop at any point. A novel is like any other media, be it tv-series, movies or whatever. You watch/read until you lack interest and quit. You don't have to absolutely hold till the end. Even with western books series which are release once every few years, it's hard to keep up the interest. If you are entertain till the end, that's good, but if it doesn't then there's no shame in dropping.

A fixed story with at least 500 chapters and at most 1000.

I like when good stories have a lot of chapters... Still, there are some that shouldn't have been written. As for why I like a lot of the chapters even when it looks repetitive? Well, I don't know and I don't care. All I can say is that less chapters means less things for me to read, and so, more time to spend in boredom... So, yeah, even if some novels end having 5000 chapters I will still read them.

Well most of CN novels are like this. This model is taken from popular Manga like HnK or DB or Bleach (tournament, new enemy, power up etc.) If the novel became popular then you have to face even the increase of chapter filled with no plot development cause they pay the author x word.

I prefer good stories. Short or long doesn't matter at all.

If you still love to read the novel but boring, just skip the chapter until its interesting again. Sometime I read the ending from raw or mtl, just to make sure its good ending. And read again.

It feels like Chinese stories are too long while Korean stories are too short. A happy medium between them would be perfect I think.

As long as a novel or media knows how to handle power level and plot pacing, it's fine if it goes on for a while but most novels don't do that well. Then you end up with powercreep and weirdness.

You have a symptom of overdose.
    Like me.
Just try to look for different kind of reading material or quit reading and doing something else for a while.

As for the preference, I prefer either one but leaning toward non repetitive. I quit ATG after all.

Fixed because I'm currently interested in gathering more data on what a good ending looks like.

As long as there is progression and there are back-references. This is what kept my interest in ISSTH. The characters don't feel disposable and there are consequences and ramifications to what Meng Hao does. So it doesn't feel as if the last hundred chapters you read is just filler/trash materials. It makes knowing the back-stories meaningful when you see a character reappear and you immediately understand why they act in a certain way, and how they've changed. In short, it doesn't matter how many chapters there are. As long as there is "Lore", decent world building and giving meaning and relevance to the chapters, then it's alright.
