Not a novel but if you haven't yet you should watch the tv show "Firefly". It's to bad it was cancelled after 1 season. But still a cult classic on a possible future of space colonization. Then once you watch the tv show watch the movie "Serenity" for the tv show after it was cancelled. This show will definitely make you want to watch and read stories like it.

    Aliens

Though this is is a tragedy story, the protagonist was just minding her own business exploring, breeding and building nests, when the antagonists burn everything and keep trying to kill the mc..

For video games I recommend "Mass Effect" if you haven't played it yet

Well if you haven't heard of them you should check out Dual Universe and Star Citizen
Though you will have to wait quite a while for them the single player narrative campaign for star citizen called squadron 42 is supposed to be coming out at the end of this year or early 2017 at the latest.

Haha, I kinda liked it though. But I watched the movie before reading the novels. Not sure what I'd think of it if I ever watched it again.

Yeah I've heard that it was alright as long as you hadn't read the book first but i wouldn't know.

If your looking for an author, then I'd recommend anything by Iain M banks, and Issac Asimov. My favourite sci-fi authors.

Congratulations! I hope your new book does well on Amazon. I'm rather new to RRL so I might be asking a stupid question but here goes nothing, what happens to your novel on RL after you release on Amazon? I know that you are hoping to earn money through purchases but if it's available for free then what happens?

Isn't that how novels to movies always turns out? Save for a few which improves on the movies. That's why I prefer watching then reading. If you did read first, you'll just disappoint yourself with the lack of details and changed plots.

Eh? The way you put that seems odd I mean its not like the book literally makes the movie worse its just that the movie is so-so at best while the book is fantastic so the movie suffers by comparison. Thats like saying "I don't like disappointment so I avoid anything really amazing just to keep my standards mediocre" I don't have a problem with people who just prefer movies over books or anything its just the reasoning you gave seems very bizarre. Its kinda like how if the original Ghostbusters didn't exist then the new one wouldn't have gotten all that hate. It wouldn't actually improve the new one it would just deprive you of the enjoyment of a really fantastic movie while protecting a mediocre one from an unflattering comparison.

I guess that is usually the case.

For me, in the case Harry Potter, I've read the books before watching the movies and it made me underappreciated the later.

In the case of Dune, I've watched the movie first before reading the books, and to this day I still consider both to be as good, and even place the movie to be cult level (bonus point for the awesome soundtrack).

As for Lord of the Rings, I've also read the books first and consider the movies to be a fair representation, but to be honest, the number of years between reading and watching the movies was a few decades, huhu.

Conan the Barbarian/Destroyer, watched the movies first before reading the novels and I still consider the movies to be cult level.

Eragon, read the books first then watched the movie, found the later to be an insult.
