Looking for spoilers.
Not the person you're looking for, but do you have specific questions? The mystery and plot of this novel is really well written, so I don't want to spoil the excitement outside of what you want to know.
Uhm, what was the relationship between MC and ML? I skipped to near the end of raws and saw that the ML would act all stiff whenever MC said thank you, and then the event that the MC forgot about.
Spoiler: About saying thank you
MC in his past life sacrificed a really huge part of himself for someone else to repay a favor. After learning this, ML doesn't like hearing MC say 'thank you' b/c he doesn't want MC to do something similar for him, especially since MC has a hero-complex as it is.
Spoiler: Event MC forgot
There was a battle that was the final trigger to the clans allying and killing MC in his past life. At the end of that, if it wasn't for ML grabbing MC and running away, MC might have died even earlier. MC was in a very weakened state both physically and mentally, and what he forgot was everything that happened during the few days where ML hid them in a cave while trying to heal his wounds.
I heard that ML is a tsundere, is that true?
I wouldn't call ML tsundere, at least not the way he treats MC after MC's rebirth. He just doesn't show emotions on his face, and there is a reason why he treats some of MC's antics the way he does. Personally, I felt ML was very devoted and tolerant towards MC, and while he's not super obvious in showing it, it's still pretty obvious.
I guess their relationship before MC died could kind of be considered tsundere, given how you define tsundere? Well, at first, ML straight up hated MC, and after his feelings changed, their interactions still retained a very similar dynamic as before. But do keep in mind that this story is mostly told from MC's point of view, so we don't really know what exactly was going through ML's mind after he started to fall for MC.
is this novel yaoi? .....if so does the ML know the mc is alive again?....does he go looking for him?
Edit: So i can find things better
@alexfilia Yaoi near the end, MC appeared before ML and they got stuck together.
@winter-t Is the rabbit ML raising the same one that MC gave to him when they were younger? Who exactly is Wenning(?)? What kind of relationship does he have with that Lan boy? And what is the deal with Jiang Cheng and the sword Casual(?)?
so they dont have many scenes together? ....what was the reaction of the ml when he sees him again?
does he recognise him (since he has a new body and all)
Uh, you have to wait for @winter-t to answer that, I didn't read the whole raws
ML ends up raising a lot of rabbits. I don't know how long a rabbit's life span is, but if it's still alive, then ML should still be raising it.
Spoiler: Wen Ning
He's MC's most successful and most powerful undead warrior that he made, the only one that had his original personality and could talk and think like a normal person.
During MC's youth, there was a clan that was the strongest and they bossed around and bullied all the other clans. Wen Ning was a member of that clan, but he was one of the few non-corrupt members, and when all the other clans united to destroy the Wen clan, he didn't participate in fighting back. After that war ended, everyone named Wen was ostracized and bullied in return, and unfortunately, Wen Ning was also eventually killed.
He and his sister had saved MC and Jiang Cheng's life before, which is why MC tried very hard, and then succeeded, in returning him to an almost human-like state.
Spoiler: Lan SiZhui's true identity
He's actually the last surviving member of the Wen clan, and was saved by ML and raised in ML's clan after MC died. He had a huge fever at the time so he doesn't have memories of his childhood when he lived with the surviving Wen clan members and MC. He's Wen Ning's cousin's son, but he himself doesn't know this.
Spoiler: Jiang Cheng and MC's sword
This heavily ties to what happened before the Wen clan fell and Wen Ning and his sister Wen Qing. It's also related to MC's huge sacrifice that I mentioned before. In short, MC's sword is a 'proof' of the sacrifice he made for Jiang Cheng, which until the end, Jiang Cheng had no idea about.
This is a really huge spoiler, so I'll refrain from saying more unless you want specific details.
MC and ML actually have a lot of scenes together, both before and after MC's rebirth. Not all of those scenes are romantic though, since they didn't start off as friends. There a few scenes that tease their relationship, like when MC makes ML drunk. For a large part of the novel, MC and ML are travelling together, so they have a lot of interactions and you can see how MC feelings start to change.
Spoiler: ML recognizing MC
ML recognizes MC very early on, during either their first or one of their first few face to face meetings. MC spends half the novel trying to subtly and not so subtly figure out how he was recognized. After ML realized who MC was, he protected MC from Jiang Cheng, and then whisked MC back to his clan and put MC in his room lol. At this point, MC hadn't realized ML recognized him already.
@winter-t Details please.
And I remember something about the ML played a song, and that song was the one the MC used to control Wen Ning in some mountain after MC revived? So I think that's how MC was recognize
You're right, that is how MC was recognized. The song is something ML made and the only person he shared it with was MC (during the event that's heavily implied to be when ML started to fall for MC). MC's memory is really bad, so it took him a while before he remembered haha.
Spoiler: Huge spoiler on Jiang Cheng, MC's sword, and MC's sacrifce
When the Wen clan was still in power, they'd destroy any clans that went against them. MC clashed with one of the young masters of the Wen clan (to save ML and a few others), so everyone in MC and Jiang Cheng's clan was killed. MC and Jiang Chen were forced to escape early by Jiang Cheng's parents, but not long after, Jiang Cheng was still captured.
MC had helped and encouraged Wen Ning before, so Wen Ning helped MC rescue Jiang Cheng, and later, even recovered the corpses of Jiang Cheng's parents. Wen Ning's sister was pretty high ranked in the Wen clan, and with her help, they were able to escape.
Cultivators in this world have a 'golden core' that is the base and source of their powers (being able to fly on swords, more strength when fighting, etc). It's how they collect spiritual energy, so if they lose this, they'd become a normal person. Jiang Cheng's core was destroyed after he was captured by the Wen clan, and he pretty much went crazy, like halfway insane, b/c he no longer had the power to avenge his parents, or even fight anymore.
MC's birth mother was the disciple of this really secretive, mysterious, and powerful cultivator that hid in the mountains, and it was rumored that they could heal any wound. After they left the care of Wen Ning and his sister, MC told Jiang Cheng that he remembered his mother telling him how to get to that mountain, and also how to gain the help of that mysterious cultivator to heal his core. He told Jiang Cheng to pretend that he's MC, how to answer questions to prove his identity, and to do everything he's told no matter what. With this new hope, Jiang Cheng travels alone to the peak of the mountain wearing a blindfold (one of the requirements), does what he's told, and his core is healed.
Or so Jiang Cheng believed.
Spoiler: What actually happened
The truth is, given how bad MC's memory is and how early his mother died, there's no way he'd know how to find that mysterious cultivator, and this story was all an act to give Jiang Cheng hope and spare his feelings. MC knew that with Jiang Cheng's personality and how competitive and proud he was, there was no way Jiang Cheng would be able to live the life of a weak, normal person. Before Jiang Cheng's parents died, they both told MC to take care of Jiang Cheng and make sure he stays safe, and since he's always been grateful for being adopted, MC decides to sacrifice himself to save Jiang Cheng.
What really happened was, with the help of Wen Ning and his miracle doctor sister, MC transferred his own golden core to Jiang Cheng. The process lasts days and is extremely painful with only a 50% theoretical (it's never been done before) success rate. Luckily, it succeeded and Jiang Cheng regained his strength (or rather, gained MC's strength), but that also meant that MC lost all of his powers and years of cultivation.
After MC died, his sword sealed itself so no one but MC could pull it out of its scabbard. But Jiang Cheng can b/c he has MC's golden core, therefore the sword recognizes it and thinks that Jiang Cheng is MC. After finding out, Jiang Cheng ran around forcing other people to try and pull out the sword, but he was the only one who could pull it out. MC wanted to hide this secret from Jiang Cheng forever, but to save MC, Wen Ning ended up telling Jiang Cheng about it, and it's also when ML found out.
Why was the jiang cheng guy after the mc?
Did he get his sword back in the end?
Did the mc recognise the ml the first time he saw him? ( we know the ml did because of the song) ....in what chap is their first meeting?....does the world find out the mc is back from the dead?
@alexfilia They should have met in chapter 8, by the end of the novel, everyone knows that ML and MC are together so they know.
@winter-t Was it ever told how and why MC was revived? Was he revived immediately after his death? So the reason Jiang Chen hate him is because of MC, his clan was killed?
What is the name of the ml ?...i re read chap 8 and i couldnt fugure it out orz ...this novel has so many names it can get confusing (at least at first >.>)....
Crap, he first appeared in 7. But he's in 8 as well. Uhm, it was the guy who wear mourning clothes, Han Guangjun Lan Wangji
Jiang Cheng hates MC to the point of being unhealthily obsessed with even the possibility of MC coming back. As for why, see spoiler below.
Spoiler: MC's sword
After MC's sacrifice, his sword is pretty much useless to him so he never used it again. I believe Jiang Cheng kept it after Wen Ning gave it to him towards the end of the novel. It wasn't really mentioned again.
Of course MC recognizes ML when they first meet after his rebirth, since ML basically looked the same as he did before, unless that's not what you're trying to ask?
MC was revived 13 years after his death. Mo XuanYu (original owner of MC's new body) offered his body to MC in return for MC taking revenge for him.
Spoiler: Jiang Cheng's hate
Partially. There were also a variety of smaller reasons and influences from his environment that piled up over the years. But the biggest factor is that MC was indirectly or partially the cause of the death of every member of Jiang Cheng's immediate family. MC's hero complex definitely played a major role, b/c every time MC sticks out his neck to save someone else, Jiang Cheng sees that as MC choosing to save outsiders at the expense of him and his own family. And sometimes, that really was the case.
MC is also pretty arrogant himself and pissed off a lot of powerful people. Those who feared and hated MC tried to turn Jiang Cheng against him (like badmouthing MC, insinuating MC doesn't respect him as head of the clan, etc). Plus, Jiang Cheng has had an inferiority complex towards MC ever since he was small, b/c MC was better than him in martial arts and his dad was more lenient towards MC. Jiang Cheng grew up with people constantly gossiping about how his dad loved MC more than him, and his mom loudly and frequently accused his dad of this.
With the accumulation of all this jealousy and rage, plus his explosive temper and ignorance of MC's sacrifice, he eventually ended up obsessively hating MC. He actually used to be quite tolerant and caring towards MC, and knows that MC isn't the one to blame for his parents' deaths. But there's always the straw that broke the camel's back, and he kind of spiraled out of control after that.
Jiang Cheng's story is quite subtle imo, b/c you're initially presented with a super antagonistic person who's trying to kill MC, but then slowly, in bits and pieces, you find out how this came to be. Except, I kind of dumped it all here in one go, sorry. Honestly, Jiang Cheng is probably the most fitting to be called tsundere in this novel.
Ok, names. I mentioned this in my review of this novel, but names can get really confusing, especially in translations b/c with pinyin, you don't have the meaning of the names to help you remember who's who. Also, everyone has like, 3 different names, so.
Here's a list of ML's names that I can remember atm:
Given: Lan Zhan
Courtesy: Lan WangJi
Title(?): HanGuang Jun
Nickname MC sometimes uses: Lan Er Gege (literal translation being, Second Elder Brother Lan, but that sounds way too formal compared what it comes off as in Chinese)
There's also another name that refers to ML and his brother as a unit, but yeah, there's a lot of different forms of address.
Oh i see!!...thank you!!! ....in how many chaps the ml takes the mc away to his sect? Or does he go around traveling and they meet a few times? ...does the mc knows that the ml knows who he is early on?
Also does the fact that the mc is alive again get found out early due to some incident like some enemy recognides some unique tecnique and tells people?
Separate names with a comma.
