Name: The Oucast/Jian Ke/ 间客 Raw Link: http://book.qidian.com/info/1223147 NU Link: http://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-outcast/ Why It Should Get Picked Up: This is one of the rare examples of futuristic Sci-fi Mecha Xianxia, and by a very prominent author Mao Ni. Description: Many millenniums into the future, on a remote mining planet a youth is studying electronics and cultivation in order to become a mecha pilot and join galactic army to escape that desolate place.
i once read a futuristic sci fi xianxia that certain series have a sci fi as it's settings, but by no means the content can be classified sci fi. its purely xianxia there are still pills/drugs, there are still cultivation by just sitting and doing nothing, there are still the not bound-by-rules powers because fuck logic there are still the mindless human mobs that literally had no concern for human lives, even their own. because plot. and a classification/tier name of their strength by your normal chinese naming standard also sects also mount tai as a sci fi fanatic, im ashamed to see it being labled as sci fi its more accurately to call it quasi sci-fi. i see no hope in this one being different.
I wouldn't worry about that, since this story is by by Mao Ni - his other Xianxia novels I've read are extremely different, they are much much closer to Wuxia than Xianxia. He is not the kind of author that replaces plot with descriptions of powering up or meaningless fights. I.e. in Ze Tian Ji over 100+ chapters MC haven't even started to properly cultivate! Anyway, there are 10 translated chapters available, so you can see it for yourself, whether it deserves "Sci-Fi" tag or not.
Mao Ni novels need more love than they're getting. Looking forward to a serious translator picking this one up
I'm not a big fan of the mecha genre but I do like this writer. The description is interesting. Hope it gets picked up~
I am currently reading ze tian ji / way of choices and really enjoying it, would love it if more of the authors books got translated!! plus i would like to see how the author would write a sci-fi futuristic novel...
Agree. The mecha, sci-fi background was used in order to boost chinese ancient martial arts (to get more readers, as well as money). That sh!t shouldn't be label as sci-fi, or "科幻" in Chinese!
not really bothered about it being a harem whether it is a good harem or bad one, the reason i want to read it is because of this comment you made at wwf The Outcast Comment = WW forum be warned may contain quite a bit of spoilers!!
bump, i really get the feeling that it is likely that i am the only one that wants someone to pick it up , i suggest people give it a chance as sci fi web novels started being quite popular recently like 40k millenniums, master of the stars and the like. And since it is by mao ni it is likely to be quite good!!
I thought about picking it up before, and I have the paperbacks, but I haven't had time to read it. One thing that might prevent someone from picking this up is the long chapters. they get 5+k. Hopefully someone will eventually.
Oh don't worry about the chapter lengths. Maoni just has a thing for fluctuating chapter lengths. ZTJ can go from as low as 2k words per chapter to 6k words per chapter. Its overall average chapter length isn't too bad though.
