ATDSVT- A Tale of Green Tea (Bitches)
Wu Meiyan had liked Chen Wanyong well enough. It wasn't a love story for her by any means, the marriage had just been arranged by their families. She had looked at what he could offer as his family's heir, deemed it sufficient for her needs and played along.
For one, looking obedient and filial was something any family prized, it would give her a better reputation, people would love her more and she could reap all sorts of advantages with it.
He was a nice enough young man, and it was easy to blush at him and smile at what he said and accept his presents. He really was very sweet.
Not exactly her type because she liked the cool, silent and graceful wang ye types but well... he was sweet.
Sweet and honest was useful. It meant that all she had to do was speak softly, weakly, politely and meekly, bat her eyelashes at him, look wide eyed and awestruck at his achievements and blush to get him to like her... and all she had to do was hint, to get him to do something for her or buy her whatever she was looking longingly at.
It was really easy to get what she wanted from him.
When the marriage had been broken off, after he had proved useless and her engagement had been moved to his more promising halfsibling, she had quietly explained to him that they weren't meant to be, that she was a filial daughter and would marry where her family sent her.
He had looked at her as if he didn't know her anymore and she had simply left things at that. It wasn't as if she was a fool to fight their families to stay with him.
He was a sweet man, but there were plenty of men in the world who would do things for her.
She had many male friends, scholars to help her with her studies, junior brothers to help her with her martial arts, proud, easily pleased rich young peacocks who would buy her things just because she looked at them in a certain way....
It was very easy to simply cite over and over that her family would choose where she married and when. It meant that her parents had their pick of invitations and proposals to sort through from this or that or those families, if not for her, then for her sisters and cousins who resembled her. And it was always nice to have back up picks if her prospective husband gave her family a reason to dislike the engagement.
I am really hoping for a major face slapping event for Wu Meiyan...

Incoming face slapping
ATDSVT- A Tale of Green Tea (Bitches)
Here was a fact. Wu Meiyan had not, in fact been the original clan heiress. The original clan heiress had been the beautiful, but far too proud Wu Shuiyan, whose younger sister, Wu Shuilian, had been the family embarrassment.
Wu Shuilian had been gentle and kind but completely incapapable of cultivating. Her only skills were embroidery and painting. She had eventually married a fine young martial artist named Li Yao, from another province and left the family with a pittance of a dowry.
Wu Shuiyan on the other hand, had aimed high.
Specifically, she wanted to marry someone the clan did not approve of. Someone highly ranked, of great fortune, of great personal power and beauty....from another country. Someone who could and would use her and the clan.
Wu Meiyan knew this quite well, because once upon a time she had been Wu Shuiyan's 'best friend'. It was she who leaked the news of Wu Shuiyan's love affair to the elders.
The resultant clusterfuck wasn't even a battle. Wu Shuiyan's cultivation was stripped from her.
On one hand, her man apparently did care enough to come for her so she survived. On the other hand, Shuiyan had been mercilessly stripped of her name and expelled from the clan...and as a reward for that betrayal of her friend for the clan's sake, Wu Meiyan's branch of the family rose to prominence and she herself became the best fighter and heiress of the family in question.
Well, the problem was that now, even supposedly without her cultivation, Wu Shuiyan was the valued woman of a prince from a different empire which had cultivators. And rather than let the matter rest, she still bore a grudge.
In short, the Wu cultivator clan was having.... difficulties.
As in, 'a covert cultivator war' difficulties.
so that's why the bitch is now aiming for Wanyong... for protection from the "bestfriend" she betrayed and well, of course the benefits because really, that's the kind of girl she is, right... grrrrr...
