Aw, everyone's recommended all the ones I wanted to... oh well, I'll just +1 the following that I've read, not in any particular order. They're all good, but I think among them True Star and Kill the Lights might be a little bit too much for you...
    The Legendary Master's Wife
    The Founder of Diabolism
    The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System
The Path of the Cannon Fodder's Counterattack
Transmigrating into a Mob Character to Rehabilitate the Villain Plan
[Online Gaming] Love You 59 Seconds
    True Star
    Kill the Lights
    Reincarnation of a Superstar

No it's not. Yaoi covers everything that concerns relationship between two men. Shounen Ai is pedophilia, meaning 'loving young boys', it does not mean no-sex homosexual relationship. Japanese 'shounen' and American 'boy' is not the same thing. Don't use incorrect terms coined by dumb Americans.

    I'd suggest:
    Hanamai Koeda de Aimashou
    Junjou Romantica
    Sakura Gari

    Hmm...

Lol, I'll confess to having a more Americanized understanding of those terms. To me,

shounen-ai = BL love, does not go into R-rated territory. Or if it does, it's barely there.
yaoi = hardcore BL sex scenes
shotacon = romance with a young boy (not necessarily BL, can be het)

Shounen ai does mean 'boys love', but only in American sense. In Japanese, shounen typically specifically refers to boys aged between 12 to 18. I say typically, because it's not wrong to refer to boys between 6 to 12 as 'shounen'. No man above 18 are ever called 'shounen'. If older men wants to deride younger men for being childish or immature, they call them 'gaki' (brat), never 'shounen'. So 'shounen ai' actually means 'young boys love', so you can understand why people who can understand Japanese cringes at it.

Yaoi is anything homosexual between two men.

Shoutacon is a leaning for young boys. It has no sexual meaning and it doesn't relate to any kind of romance or relationship. If for example, you like your little sister too much and refuse to let boys get close to her, you'll be called a siscon regardless of whether or not you are in a relationship of any kind. Similarly, if your room is full of Hatsune Miku merchandises and you sleep with Miku hug pillow, people can call you Mikucon.

Why resort to anime, novel or manga when you can have an adoptation of it in live action?? I who have read and watch a lot of BL drama highly recommend 2 Moons the series its gaining a lot of popularity in thailand as well as other asian countries such as china philippines and indonesia..if your girlfriend is a real fujushi as you have said..its 100% that she will love it..although i would love to give you a copy of the novel i just cant since they will going to oficcially publish it and as a respect for the translator who translated it from Thai to english i refrain myself from spreading it.

Since you're a beginner I highly recommend you read a novel first since it would settle you into the genre better and is less intimidating. A good novel to start off would be Love You 59 Seconds since it's pretty cute and 46 chapters in it's still pretty much cute and light hearted fluff. Plus it's also about gaming so if you're into MMOs you and the girl you're trying to woo can connect on common ground. I also recommend The Legendary Master’s Wife since it takes a while for the romantic relationship to kick off physically, it's very well written and translated. This might be considered cheating a little but you can also try Reborn as My Love Rival’s Wife since it's a straight guy getting sent into a body of a girl and it's crackly as hell (note: it kinda has school in it but in later chapters and the mc isn't a student but teacher). Manga wise I think you should look into shounen ai tags because yaoi tags are notorious for having physical affection scenes that may be too overwhelming for a beginner. If I remember any I'll post up a list for you. Anime wise, Yuri on Ice is pretty popular and if the girl you like hasn't watched that yet you guys can try watching it together as a first date. Good luck! Btw Kill the Lights, True Star, Rebirth of Chen, are good reads but I don't recommend reading them since there's a lot of •cough•intimate•hardcore•cough•scenes•cough•....and um... please don't watch Boku no pico Dx you're too innocent

For something light and sweet. I'd recommend these manga:
Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi ni Kike
Super Lovers (this has an anime too)

Something recent and popular would be the anime Yuri on Ice.
That would be your best bet as a conversation topic.

I'm not sure how hardcore that girl is but I hope your date goes well :)
Yes, don't ruin yourself by watching Boku no Pico. Lots of warnings from us. :p

Since I don't often read school life manga I only have two recommendations. For the first manga, this isn't tagged as yaoi but it has a shounen-ai subplot and yaoi misunderstandings, so it's pretty hilarious. It's called Wo Jia Dashi Xiong Naozi You Keng and like the rest of the stuff I recommended to you earlier it falls into all the genre requirements you're looking for. 19 days is also a excellent and a funny read, it falls into the school life genre.

Novel : Cold Sands, Are you addicted, Counterattack, The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System, The Legendary Master's Wife
Anime : Hybrid Child, No. 6, Super Lovers, Kono Danshi series
Manga : Any manga by Ichikawa Kei, Koimonogatari (Tagura Tohru)

If you are still new to BL, it's better to start with Shounen-Ai or soft one, else, you might traumatized (my first BL is Brother by Ougi Yuzuha, and it scared me bc the scenes is too much for a newbie . . . though if i think it now, it's not really hardcore bc just typical BL

It's old but maybe there's still a copy floating around somewhere - Blaze of Mirage. Honou no Shinkirou.

Mostly passes for bromance stuff - except for volume 20ish (round there somewhere). Ran over 30 volumes for the original with spinoffs for different eras. It has manga, novel, anime, cd. The manga/anime was extremely safe - if memory is correct.

Its a romance that lasted for over 400 years from the Sengoku era where one (Naoe - vassal of his enemy) had the other (Uesugi Kagetora -his enemy was the other adopted son and the winner would be lord) killed. Lots of vibes, historical figures of all ages, ntr, ghost busting, trans, etc, but other than that was mostly feels than action for the yaoi part.

    @ OP:
Complex is a good slice of life classic if you're still looking for good yaoi in general. There's not much sexual content if I recall.

'Cause this forum is filled with homophobic guys, doncha know. Every time someone wants a recommendation for anything even hinting at romance between two guys, all the people gotta come and yell about how disgusting it is and then high-five each other 'cause they think they're funny.

I'd get it if they were aiming their feelings towards a certain genre of yaoi or something (harlequin yaoi sucks, gotta say), but "yaoi" is...well, every gay story, by most definitions? Not liking gay romance is fine, but going out of their way to tell people how disgusting they think it is despite not being asked at all whatsoever is kinda a dick move? Plus most likely the only contact they've come with "yaoi" is Boku no Pico, and that's just hentai aimed at straight men with a fetish for girls with dicks and flat chests.

I dunno I'm tired of having to read their shit every single time a yaoi thread comes up.

No, it doesn't. Yaoi is literally the acronym "yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi" (ヤマなし、オチなし、意味なし), which means "no climax, no point, no meaning." The American term would be "porn without plot." In Japan the term yaoi is used for porn/slash doujin. Just my personal opinion but something like Legendary Master's Wife, for example, should not be called yaoi since it actually does have plot.

It's only the Western fans who use yaoi to refer to *everything* homo, lol, but properly speaking yaoi should only be for R18 porn work.

BTW, how much is yaoi associated with slash porn in Japan? Let me leave with this little bit of trivia: Japanese fujoshis have an alternate meaning for yaoi - "Yamete, oshiri ga itai" (やめて お尻が 痛い?) "Stop, my ass hurts!" Pretty damned funny, IMO.
