No, they don't receive a notification. About the other part of your question.. I can't answer. There are few technicall details that only Tony knows -i.e. what icon replace the other (see my previous post) and so on.
Which item did you buy and who did you buy it for? If you brought it for yourself while you already had an icon, it probably won't overwrite. There is no queue system and there is no notification either
@Tony - in what form should we propose icons (name, images..)? Do we have to search for similar ones as those that you've choose or..?
I would prefer if you don't suggest similar items. For example, we already have three hearts, we don't need another heart icon. As for what form you should propose the icons? Names or images would work.
