So, I've been thinking for a couple of days now and I figured I'd ask my fellow NUF members who play 40k or know a lot about it. The question is: How exactly does a member of the Imperial Guard gets his Chainsword after he is moved up to officer rank? Like I know chainswords are standard issue for any member of the Guard that is promoted to officer but how does he get it exactly, does he just get promoted and goes to the quartermaster and request the chainsword? Is there some ceremony in which he is given the weapon? That's it thanks for any answers.
Probably takes it off the body of his predecessor who held the rank of officer for a glorious 5minutes.
Lets imagine for the sake of the question that members of the Guard live long enough to see a moment of peace in between battlefields as he is transported to the next place he will be required. Also as the transporting is going on there is a round of promotion to fill up the ranks and a senior member gets promoted to officer, now in that setting how is the weapon issued, does he just go and request it from the quartermaster plain as that?
Probably. You have to imagine that there are billions of guardsmen, which means millions of officers. They probably don't have the time to give a ceremony to an officer who is 90% sure to die in the next battle anyway. Besides: Surviving a battle? That's heresy. The Emperor requires his loyal guardsmen to die fighting. Edit: Just looked it up. The Chainsword Is not really any signature of rank, many officer just prefer using one. So I imagine they simply request one from the armory.
That's awfully disappointing. Trying to write a fic from a lucky guardsman who survives many deployments and moves up the chain of command, will kinda suck for the story if I break the immersion any more than his constant survival. Kinda wanted to have a ceremony in his moving up to lieutenant, but I want to make it as close to the setting as possible.
"How exactly does a member of the Imperial Guard gets his Chainsword after he is moved up to officer rank?" The only answer I can give it depends on the Imperial Guard Company and how it follows it traditions. Tanis First Company probably doesn't put all the ceremony in to it.
He is in a fight with a superior with a Chainsword, the superior is killed in action and he take the weapon to kill those that killed his superior.
Using the Cadian template, but I figure even all of the different companies of the Cadian's have different traditions like the all have different Founding days.
If their anything like the orks they can just imagine it into being. Did I mention how ridiculous op orks are?
That's not quite how the orks wahhhhggg energy works, they can't just imagine shit into being (unless they are weirdboyz) they aren't quite that smart, they can however imagine shit that shouldn't work to work.
I doubt the imperial guard s officers have chainsword as standard issue equipment, they do have ceremonial sabers, swords, which can also be used in battle, but i dont recall ever seeing a guardsman s miniature with a chainsword. Chainswords arn t as rare a weapon as power weapons so they ll wont be any ceremony directly attached to the bestowal of a chainsword, for high raking imperial commanders it might be another story, On top of that humans are much too weak to swing around chainswords, so i doubt many would request a chainsword from their regiment s quartermasters even if they could
Those two up top are Sargent figures for the Steel Legion. Spoiler: Another 1 Unsure of this one but that uniform looks Cadian to me, it's also a Sargent.
