there is the option of using a highranked meditation technique otherwise in the backwaters (not central continent (south coast?)) they use rime (?) water and a spellmodel to advance you know, they crystallize the spellmodel in their sea of conciousness

IIRC the issue with that is that the spell models for each level of your magus increase have to fit together and the people who pick random spells and use water have a really hard time finding something to help them get to Rank 2. High level / Advanced meditation techniques include a set of spell models that fit together so you know you can advance up to a certain level. I believe when they talk about a level 2/3/4/whatever technique, that's telling you how many spell models it contains for advancement.
