What I really hate is when I read the synopsis and still have no idea what it's about and then I have to read the reviews for some sort of semblance of a proper summary

To be fair most of the asian titles was chosen without translation in mind, some of them might sound a lot better in their original languages.

Unfortunately, you're dealing with authors that need to be super catchy (like being clickbaity).

Therefore, the titles have to be click-baity. The chapter titles have to be click-baity. The writing for each chapter should hold enough suspense to have the readers saying "I want to read more!"

IF all novels on NovelUpdates from Qidian, Zongcheng, 17k, etc were all written with the usual "I want to present a story" instead of "I'm writing a story so that I can get money", there would be huge, drastic changes to the way the title, the chapter titles, and even how the 'episodes' are written.

Glad to see another Xenogears fan. Also I completely agree with you. Although printed books still need to advertise with their title it's often shorter because of the amount of space on a book cover plus their cover art is what's generally used to attract readers. This makes a big difference compared to forms of online advertising that need to be as bombastic as possible to garner attention.
