Is this really a Chinese quote? I thought it's translated to Chinese from elsewhere

Oh that reminds me, does anyone know why Chinese people who get cuckolded say that their wife or girlfriend made them wear a green hat? What's the backstory behind it?

I don't think anyone knows for sure, but it has to do with prostitutes or families of prostitutes being forced to wear green hats. It seems to date back as far as the Yuan Dynasty, but may be all the way back to the Tang Dynasty.

 

Where did that come from?
