Discussion When the MC have the same name as you

Did you ever experience reading a novel or story which the mc or a side character have the same name as you? Well as a person who loves to read this pretty much disturbs me especially if the character which have the same name as me ends up as psychotic character. Thats the reason I tend to drop novels which coincidentally have some character named like me. (Thankfully my name isn't that common)

Errr. just Imagine reading an ero where the a side char is being raped and that character is named like you. brrr~. *shivers*

 

You should have the ability to overlook such things. Its the same thing when a man of religion reads a xianxia story for the first time and sees 'Gods and devils fighting'.

my name is used in Doctor who as an alias and it feels awesome, heck even watching the weather gets me feeling great. Forecast XD
well I have 2 first names so the chances of someone being named the same are low.
John smith (only the john part)
creeps me out when watching hospital or police shows though, since unidentified corpses are mostly aliased john doe.

 

You could consider them as alternate yous from parallell universes.

If it turns out good for them, motivation.
If it turns out bad for them, lessons.

 

I think your name not being common is actually a minus
cause my name is really common and yet prob because of that I've only seen it once or twice

 

I have an English name and a Korean name.
My English name is fairly common and I've seen it quite a few times in some novels.
I've never seen my Korean name in any novels before.

Regardless, I hardly think that it's a good reason to drop a novel just because a character has the same name as you and has an unsatisfactory role in the story.
Dropping a novel because a character with the same name as you has an unsatisfactory role is a bit like religious people dropping any novel where the church is portrayed in a negative way (which is literally every single novel that has a church that I've read about).

 

Well Im no chinese so xianxia or wuxia stories are off the mark.

 

Not only is my name foreign, it is also very uncommon. So no, never experienced that

 

That is nothing, what is really disturbing is trying to read an ero where the side character is named after a close family member. Seriously I had to drop a series just because the protagonist's love interest had the same name as my sister.

As someone who has a very special one of a kind name, I cannot relate.

 

Yeah I know what you mean, but the characters I'm named after is usually boring af. At least you're a spice in the story?

 

Unfortunately, I have had this happen. I have a common girl's name, so when the character was a girl and I'm a guy...

 

1. Generic name
2. Obscure reference name
3. Bad pun name
4. Thematic name

Only bad parents will do this kind of child abuse to set up their children for bullying.

 

I share my name with the kid from Toy Story.

In a novel that I can not remember which was a character with the female version of my name even though he was still a guy, and he was despicable, reading those chapters was disturbing.

Zack isn't a very common name (at least spelled the same way) and the only time I've seen my name is in Final Fantasy 7 and I think one novel.
