Just really, if you have ever read cultivation novel, you know what I am talking about. The language the author uses is sooo flowery and fancy its disgusting. It's like that Lady at the grocery store who wears enough perfume to make the clerk at the checkout counter dizzy. Even item descriptions, places, names, and insults are "Prettied up".

    • Toad trying to eat swan meat
    • Myriad Miles Rivers and Mountain Painting
    • Demon King of Confusion
These are just a few examples of actual things I have come across in CN novels. And frankly, you all know better than I do how many hundreds or thousands more there are.

A lot of the times, these Cultivation have Alchemists or artifact creators as the main character. And as far as I can tell, it adds nothing to the story besides giving the author an excuse to tell everyone about the "Dragon Kings Tri-Fang Sword" they dreampt up last night or how about the "Rainbow Ginseng" "Beast Precious Flower" or how about he "Death Spider Spirit Bones". Have any of hem ever heard of the "Dunce Cap of Chuuni"?

Most of the language used in these stories sound like a Botanical Encyclopedia, Dictionary.com, Beginners Blacksmith Guide, (Insert Japanese Chuuni novel of your choice here. Ex. Sword Art Online!), and a chinese copy of Lord of the Rings all got together and gangbanged Shakespear. And the resulting novel is the mutated, infectious, frankenstein like thing that lives in the sewers under your house.

And I would very much like to know why. Its doesn't add anything to the story, and it's certainly has no impact on the audience beyond reading a bunch of text. Is it that every chinese author as a child was forced to endur hours of torture reading poetry?

(This is partly a troll thread but also an actual question. I know people don't like reading boring walls of text, so I added a few amusing descriptions post edits to keep people reading.)

Better than rinse and repeat holy sword, shadow king, god of darkness in every other western fantasy story...

these cultivation novels are essentially trying to emulate the legends and myths that exist in Asia. Thus, the language that these epics originally had is used for authenticity.

It's just chinese culture. They use this stuff constantly in normal conversation, it just seems weird to us. Chinese is old asf, and they had the time and the determination to develop the language.

Easy, word count=money; more words=more money. Its like when you have a word requirement for your essay and "It was good" ain't gonna cut it, so you added 10 other words

The weird language is the Chinese equivalent of Old English. It sounds weird, and even more so when translated to a language with a completely different structure.

Edit; It's more like Early Modern English (Elizabethan Era) than Old English. Old English sounds nothing like contemporary English.

Eh sometimes bullshitting is art especially when word count is important. But really filler is filler. I am more suprised translators don t cut out out filler and translate it whole. I mean seriously we don t give a damn about word count often years after original was posted.

That just how Chinese language works. You could string words to create a nice rhyming prose.
Even a simple action could be described with 4 words to make it more significant or poetic.
